Exclusive: AMC Networks streamer Acorn TV has teamed with New Zealand broadcaster Tvnz to commission its latest original — a romantic comedy set on a Kiwi vineyard, led by The Crown star Charles Edwards and Wanted actress Rebecca Gibney.
Libertine Pictures and Eq Media Group will produce six-part series Under The Vines, which follows Edwards and Gibney as two unlikely city slickers who inherit a failing vineyard in rural New Zealand.
Australian TV star Gibney features as Sydney socialite Daisy Munroe, who heads to New Zealand for a vacation at her recently deceased stepfather’s winery, which she intends to sell.
Little does she know that the vineyard has a co-owner: Grumpy UK-born lawyer, Louis Oakley (Edwards), who also travels to New Zealand to escape a spiraling series of unfortunate events in his life.

Ron Howard's new adventure on the high seas (based on the story that inspired Moby Dick) In the Heart of the Sea didn't manage to beat The Hunger Games, due mostly to the latter's much higher screen count. But regardless it's the final week of Katniss's reign. Next weekend the jedis, generals, droids, and wookies arrive surely stealing all the screens in our multiplex world.
If Chris & Tom survive this whaling adventure they get to play Marvel superheroes next
In Oscar-seeking land, Spotlight was off only 10% after a final expansion to 1089 screens so word of mouth is strong and the run will surely be leggy as it nabs more prizes at award ceremonies. The Big Short, inexplicably on only 8 screens despite multiplex-appeal (this is not a highbrow movie!) and tons of stars, packed its houses. Carol and The Danish Girl with tiny expansions are also doing solid if unspectacular business.

'Trumbo' movie: Bryan Cranston as screenwriter Dalton Trumbo and Helen Mirren as gossip columnist Hedda Hopper. 'Trumbo' movie review: Highly entertaining 'history lesson' Full disclosure: on the wall in my study hangs a poster – the iconic photograph of blacklisted Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, with black-horned rim glasses, handlebar mustache, a smoke dangling from the end of a dramatic cigarette holder. He's sitting – stark naked – in a tub surrounded by his particular writing apparatus. He's looking directly into the camera of the photographer, his daughter Mitzi. Dalton Trumbo's son, Christopher Trumbo, gave me the poster after my interview with him for the release of Peter Askin's 2007 documentary also titled Trumbo. That film combines archival footage, including family movies and photographs, with performances of the senior Trumbo's letters to his family during their many years of turmoil before and through the blacklist, including his time in prison. The letters are read by,...

Read More: Exclusive 'Trumbo' Motion Poster As blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo in "Trumbo," Bryan Cranston resurrects a dark chapter in Hollywood history. While the actor will never know how the late screenwriter would react to his performance, other famous names who survived the blacklist era have seen the movie — including Kirk Douglas, who turns 99 next month. During a recent lunch in New York to celebrate this week's release of "Trumbo," attended by Michael Douglas as well as the cast of the film, producer Michael London recalled the experience of joining Cranston for a screening of "Trumbo" for the older Douglas, who's portrayed in the movie by Dean O'Gorman. "We waited in the living room," London said, during a Q&A moderated by blacklisted screenwriter Walter Bernstein. "He came out and gave Bryan a huge, huge hug. He was very moved. He loved the movie and talked a great...

Toronto – The damage the House Un-American Activities committee wrought between 1938 and 1975 was unconscionable. As the Cold War heated up thousands of innocent citizens were accused of being members of or sympathetic to the Communist Party and this committee was responsible for much of the hysteria. The witch-hunt hit Hollywood hard and after a number of hearings prompted the infamous blacklist, an unofficial designation that denied work to anyone in the industry with suspected communist ties. There was one man who is credited as bringing the blacklist down, screenwriter Dalton Trumbo and his story is chronicled in Jay Roach’s new biopic “Trumbo.” Something tells us if Trumbo were alive today he might pass along some script notes to Roach and writer John McNamara. In theory, “Trumbo” is an incredible true story that should be prime fodder for a great movie. Before the blacklist, Trumbo (Bryan Cranston) was one of the...

Luca Guadagnino's A Bigger Splash, which Fox Searchlight just acquired for distribution starring Matthias Schoenaerts, Tilda Swinton, Ralph Fiennes, Dakota Johnson and Aurore Clement. The pic centers on a high profile couple, a famous rock star and a filmmaker (Schoenaerts and Swinton), vacationing and recovering on the idyllic sun-drenched and remote Italian island of Pantelleria are disrupted by the unexpected visit of an old friend and his daughter (Fiennes and Johnson) - creating a whirlwind of jealousy,...

"The Hobbit" actor Dean O'Gorman has signed on to portray legendary actor Kirk Douglas in the upcoming biopic "Trumbo". Helen Mirren, John Goodman, Diane Lane, Michael Stuhlbarg, David James Elliott and Peter Mackenzie also star.
Bryan Cranston plays Dalton Trumbo, one of the highest-paid screenwriters in Hollywood during the 1940s and early 1950s who was blacklisted when he refused to testify in front of the House Un-American Activities Committte.
Kirk Douglas starred in and executive produced "Spartacus" and hired Trumbo to write the script. He also gave Trumbo credit under his own name, that gesture chipping away at the negative stigma placed on the blacklisted writers.
Jay Roach is directing from a screenplay by John McNamara. Shooting is currently under way in New Orleans.
