After a three year gap between films and a strike-induced delay that prevented it from making its planned fall 2023 release date, the wait for “Dune: Part Two” is almost over. It appears to be worth the wait.
Denis Villeneuve’s epic sequel, which concludes his take on Frank Herbert’s original “Dune” novel, is set to hit theaters on Friday, March 1. While full reviews have yet to be published, many critics have taken to social media to share their overwhelmingly positive responses to the film following its world premiere on Thursday night.
Some called it a “masterpiece” and even better than the first film, while others compared it to the action seen in epics like Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.” Though as you’ll see below, the praise wasn’t completely universal.

Dune: Part Two made its world premiere in London today, and the first reactions to the highly anticipated sequel on social media are extremely positive, but I doubt that comes as a surprise to anyone.
In a shock to no one, I absolutely loved #Dune2. Incredible filmmaking. Brilliant score. Entire cast was excellent. My only complaint was I wish it was longer. Not joking around. The movie is 2hr and 40 min(?) and I would have been happy to watch another hour. pic.twitter.com/6PZmfQTEAH

Dare I say it's a perfect film. Better than the first one. All the character build-up, storyline, & worldbuilding massively pays off in the third act. A third act that left me speechless and in awe. Yeah, I loved it. #Dune2 #FilmTwitter pic.twitter.com/1ga8Oi6StG

Sony’s Universe of Spider-Man Characters is struggling. While the cinematic universe is better off than most other attempts at making a connected film franchise, that is only a result of the producers of this universe willing to produce and launch subpar products. With Morbius being as big a flop as it was, fans assumed that the only way for Sony was up. However, that might not be the case after all.
Dakota Johnson in Madame Web
The initial reviews for Madame Web have been made live, and critics are struggling to find positive things to say about the film. Despite having a star-studded cast, it seems that Sony has once again failed to capture the lightning that gave them the Venom IP, as that has proven to be the only profitable character that the network has in its box of Spider-Man characters.

The first reactions to “The Flash” are in. It’s been hyped as one of the greatest superhero movies ever made — by DC’s new executives, by David Zaslav, even by Tom Cruise — and is now being anointed by one of the first public audiences that watched it at CinemaCon.
The CinemaCon crowd that saw “The Flash” in the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace Tuesday night was quite literally screaming with excitement, with some press seemingly losing their minds at some of the film’s late reveals. The film is a crowd pleaser from start to finish, a multiverse and time travel movie in the vein of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and even classics like “Back to the Future.” Whether or not it’s actually the greatest superhero movie ever made will be debated once more critics get the chance to see it,...

Scream VI is having its press junket this weekend, and the lucky journalists who participated (including our own JimmyO) saw the film last night. Immediately after the screening, they were allowed to share their thoughts on social media, with a full review embargo set to break later this week. Our man Jimmy said the following:
“#Scream6 is a delight! The cast all shine, old and new, and the kills are pretty damn brutal. It’s one the finest sequels in the series with unexpected (and fun) twists throughout! I sure like this scary movie!”
Other reactions were similarly positive, with many praising the amped-up gore and the new urban New York City setting. Of course, one must remember that junket screenings are always pretty positive, and it’s customary that if someone is doing interviews for the movie and they happened to hate it, they wouldn’t share their reaction.

Kristen Stewart’s clear path to the Oscars 2022 Best Actress award hit a speed bump this week as the first reactions to Ridley Scott’s star-studded “House of Gucci” put Lady Gaga immediately in the awards conversation.
“There’s a true standout performance here from Lady Gaga, funny and fearless and — crucially, in a movie prone to losing the thread — completely commanding,” Vanity Fair awards writer David Canfield wrote in his analysis of the film, reviews for which are embargoed until November 23 — just one day before its theatrical release. “She centers, even grounds the movie while having a grand time doing so. Accordingly, she’s firmly in the conversation for a second best-actress nomination, but how far she can go largely depends on the movie around her.”

Marvel movies are back with “Black Widow” finally opening in theaters in July, and based on the reactions of those who got to see it a bit early, Disney has another hit on its hands with the MCU’s “Bond” movie.

In a recent interview with Variety, WarnerMedia CEO Ann Sarnoff condemned Snyder Cut bullies on social media and stressed that follow-up viral movements urging Warner Bros. to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse and #ReleaseTheAyerCut (referring to David Ayer’s original cut of “Suicide Squad”) will not have a similar outcome to “Zack Snyder’s Justice League.” The release of the Snyder cut on HBO Max last week brought the project’s toxic fandom back into the conversation. Not only were critics and WarnerMedia executives not in support of the Snyder cut harassed by fans on social media over the last four years, but reviewers who disliked the Snyder Cut were also subject to social media bullying over the weekend.
“We’re not tolerating any of that. That behavior is reprehensible no matter what franchise you’re talking about or what business you’re talking about. It’s completely unacceptable,” Sarnoff told Variety. “I’m...

Now that Halloween is in the rearview mirror, the focus has shifted from movies that are designed to scare you out of your seat to ones that bring on the warm and fuzzy feelings associated with the Christmas season. Indeed, as is the case every year, a barrage of new festive-themed films are set to arrive and try and establish themselves in the pantheon of established classics that have reigned for decades like It’s a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, Scrooged, Home Alone and the rest.
If you’re not the Christmas type, though, then Fatman could be the movie for you. Deadpool 2 recently screened for several members of the press and other individuals including Hugh Jackman, who Ryan Reynolds has been trying to pull into the world of Deadpool.
There are a ton of reactions that have been shared on social media, and as you might be expecting, the hype is real and Deadpool 2 is apparently an awesome movie that is even better than the first one! They say the movie is extremely funny, insanely violent, and that it earns it's R-rating. Oh yeah, and apparently you'll want to stick around with the post-credits scene!
We'll star out with Jackman's reaction, who calls it a work of genius in his little video reaction below, and then I've included a few other reactions for you to read.

It seems like “Deadpool 2” is going to defy the second film slump. Critics are praising the latest Wade Wilson installment, with some saying it’s better than the first film and “Avengers: Infinity War.”
“Oh, #Deadpool2, How is it even possible that you were better the second time around?” wrote one early viewer. “Great action, great laughs, surprisingly heartfelt, and an opening that hit me harder than ‘Infinity War’s’ ending.”
“#Deadpool2 took my expectations, blew them up and regenerated as a top tier superhero movie loaded with filthy laughs, an unstoppable force of a team and more heart then it probably should have,” said another.

Additionally, lucky early viewers seem to be enthralled with the film’s post-credit scene.

“Deadpool 2” will see Ryan Reynolds reprise his role as Wade Wilson/the merc with a mouth when it hits theaters next week. Josh Brolin, Zazie Beetz and T.J. Miller also star.
See early reactions below.
So, #DEADPOOL2 is the perfect sequel. Doubles down on everything that fans love about the original, and fixes some of that film's issues. Huge, huge laughs that play the audience like a fiddle. @VancityReynolds destroys as Wade. Great action, fantastic comic nods. A killer ride! pic.twitter.com/KaM8gUT2Jf

— Sean O'Connell (@Sean_OConnell) May 10, 2018
Oh, #Deadpool2, How is it even possible that you were better the second time around? Great action, great laughs, surprisingly heartfelt, and an opening that hit me harder than Infinity War's ending.
— Stephen (Dirk) Libbey (@childe_dirk) May 10, 2018
#Deadpool2 took my expectations, blew them up and regenerated as a top tier superhero movie loaded with filthy laughs, an unstoppable force of a team and more heart then it probably should have pic.twitter.com/HvVSfKSCc5
— Chris Sylvia (@sylvioso) May 10, 2018
#Deadpool2 is no doubt the most violent major release since Kill Bill Volume 1. It’s also funnier than the first and has me genuinely excited for a sequel. Oh and it features a ton of Canada jokes, so of course I loved it.

Normally my wife falls a sleep watching movies. Not with #Deadpool2 fully engaged, non stop laughter. Best time ever had in a theater. This movie is so awesome
— Adrian (@42rossfamily) May 10, 2018
Deadpool 2 was action packed, emotional and as hilarious as expected! The film is full of brilliant cameos and moments! Well done Mr Pool #Deadpool2
— Ben (@BenIsPrettyFly) May 10, 2018
Saw it too.
You were brilliantly ghastly and horrible – loved the first movie so much and so happy sequel was equally awesome. #deadpool2 https://t.co/noZryvFm7l

I didn't like the first Deadpool. Deadpool 2 beat me into submission until I was actually enjoying myself. Also it features my now favorite post credit scene.

Deadpool 2 is better than Infinity War????
— alex (@alex_abads) May 10, 2018
I liked Deadpool 2 more than the first one (which I wasn’t a huge fan of). Slow to start but all the stuff with X-Force and Cable (and Peter!) works surprisingly well.

Arguably the second biggest comic book movie of 2018 – after Infinity War, of course – Deadpool 2 is quickly barreling down on its May 18th release date and as such, Fox has begun screening the sequel for critics and in just a few short days, we’ll finally get to see what everyone thinks. More importantly, though, we’ll also get to see how the pic stacks up to the aforementioned box office juggernaut.
That being said, fans shouldn’t expect the two releases to have very much in common. With the exception of Josh Brolin and one or two nods to Disney’s animated oeuvre, Deadpool 2 is worlds away from the superhero smackdown that is Avengers: Infinity War, and one need only look to the sequel’s raunchy trailers – not to mention those unexpected collaborations with pop queen Céline Dion – for evidence of that.

Many baseball fans would understand why someone would want to keep a home run ball from the World Series, even it was hit by the opposing team. But one Houston Astros supporter made no exceptions to the tradition of throwing back a home run hit by a rival.
Fans were shocked during Game 5 of the World Series Sunday night when an Astros fan dramatically wrestled the ball hit by Los Angeles Dodgers’ Yasiel Puig in the 9th inning out of a woman’s hand to throw it back onto the field — leaving her and those around them stunned.

We’re only six months into the year and already, 2017 is shaping up to be one to remember for Marvel Studios.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, James Gunn’s space oddity that continued the rip-roaring adventures of Star-Lord and the gang, has already cemented its status as one of the year’s biggest blockbusters with a worldwide haul of $844 million – so far, at least – and that’s before you factor in one simple, yet wildly exciting fact: For the first time in the McU’s lucrative history, Marvel Studios is launching three superhero tentpoles in the space of 12 months. Thor: Ragnarok will be the one to give the studio its riotous encore in November, but in between Star-Lord and the God of Thunder is the bouncy kid of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Peter Parker.

The fifth film in the "Mission: Impossible" series, 'Rogue Nation,' had its world premiere in Vienna earlier this week ahead of a global launch late next week.
The series has had a rocky history though there's no question that the John Woo-directed second film is seen as an outright dud. Whether Brian DePalma's espionage-oriented first film or J.J. Abrams action-driven third film is better depends upon whom you talk to though both seem to be pretty close.
What is clear is that Brad Bird's fourth film, "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," was a winner both with audiences and critics - garnering good reviews and way more box-office than any of the previous entries, revitalising the brand.

With any major release that comes out from any of the major studios, or any of the major directors at work in Hollywood, there is going to be a contingent of what the internet likes to call "haters." These haters can be film critics or fans on message boards, and we here at Cinema Blend are not exempt. Our own Sean O'Connell was not impressed with the efforts of Christopher Nolan's Interstellar - a film that practically baited the haters more than any Taylor Swift single ever could. Unlike Ms. Swift though, Christopher Nolan has a theory as to why people might hate Interstellar on the first go-round. In his opinion, the film needs at least two go-rounds to be properly absorbed. The Daily Beast ran a pretty comprehensive profile on Christopher Nolan, with a lot of it naturally focusing on Interstellar's internet reaction, as well as the...

They are already working on Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and the Black Panther, and there are others I am not allowed to talk about." While we can guess at how much of the planned films schedules and releases in predevelment are actually given to Stan, 91, to consult or work on in any form. Richard Linklater's long-in-the-works coming-of-age drama Boyhood is getting tons of critical praise. Our own Sean O'Connell gave the indie five stars and called it, "the most ingenious, most effective, most experimental, most unpredictable, most demanding, most rewarding and most enjoyable movie I.ve screened." With reviews like these, it's understandable that Boyhood's makers are confident it will appeal to moviegoers as it expands in release this week. But one producer in particular is putting his time where his mouth is. Producer John Sloss has had a hand in creating such celebrated cinema as Before Sunrise, Boys Don.t Cry, Far From Heaven, Bernie and (of course) Boyhood. But despite the rave reviews, the last of these might seem a tough sale in summer movie season. Blame it on the influx of spectacle-driven tent poles like Transformers: Age of Extinction or Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Blame...

The first press screenings have taken place for Fox's "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and reviews have started popping up. Almost all are gushingly positive, saying it is the film of the Summer, and 'Rise' is to 'Dawn' as "Star Wars" is to "The Empire Strikes Back". Here's some of the reaction:
"An altogether smashing sequel to 2011′s better-than-expected 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes,' this vivid, violent extension of humanoid ape Caesar's troubled quest for independence bests its predecessor in nearly every technical and conceptual department, with incoming helmer Matt Reeves conducting the proceedings with more assertive genre elan..." - Guy Lodge, Variety

Well, the totals are in and the Seth Rogen comedy Neighbors is a big fat hit. Not only did it win rave reviews from critics--with our own Sean O'Connell calling it "fresh, relatable" and "hysterical"--but it also won at the box office, beating out The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with a healthy $51 million. That's especially impressive when you consider Neighbors R-rating means it was playing to a narrower audience than the well-established, franchised, PG-13-rated tent pole. Now that several of us have seen it, I'd like to take a moment to pay tribute to one of the comedy's overlooked virtues. Yes, Seth Rogen has honed a new variation on his schlubby stoner shtick. Yes, Zac Efron is an hilarious scene-stealer here, and Rose Byrne showed comedy chops that are begging for a solo vehicle of her own. But I want to talk about the assorted cameos that made Neighbors...

So far in the Neighbors marketing campaign, Seth Rogen and Zac Efron have been getting the majority of the spotlight, with each representing a warring faction of this parents vs. frat comedy. But the latest featurette puts the focus on the film's littlest stars, Elise and Zoey Vargas, who play baby Stella. Check it out up top. Directed by Nicholas Stoller, Neighbors follows the misadventures one married couple has when a rowdy frat moves in next door. Seth Rogen stars as Mac Radner, a pencil-pusher and new dad whose terrified of getting old and giving up on the partying he so enjoyed in his twenties. Bridesmaids' Rose Byrne joins him as Kelly, his loving wife and a bored-to-tears stay-at-home mom who finds much needed excitement in their growing war with the frat next door.
