Back in 2010, legendary producer Roger Corman and his wife/producing partner Julie Corman teamed up with the late director Declan O’Brien – who is best known for making several of the Wrong Turn sequels – to bring the world the creature feature Sharktopus, which is about exactly what it sounds like it would be about. A shark/octopus hybrid that goes on a man-eating binge. That film received two sequels, Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda and Sharktopus vs. Whalewolf… and now it has been given the remake treatment. In China! A trailer for the Chinese remake of Sharktopus can be seen in the embed above.
Scripted by Mike MacLean and Stephen Niver, the original Sharktopus had the following synopsis: Aiming to create the U.S. Navy’s next hyper-weapon while fiddling with shark and octopus DNA, the visionary geneticist, Nathan Sands, comes up with a nightmarish prototype: the genetically enhanced “S-11” hybrid. However, after a...

After bouncing all over the place in November with episodes on Knives and Skin, Starship Troopers, Perfect Blue and Addams Family Values, we’re settling into a few weeks of themed ‘Winter Horror’ discussions. Last week was Joel Schumacher’s deliciously queer camp Batman & Robin and this week, we’re back in Rural Horror territory with the cannibal prequel origin story we didn’t know we wanted in Declan O’Brien‘s Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings (2011).
In the film, a group of college kids embark on a ski/snowmobile weekend when they get lost in a white-out storm. Seeking shelter in a nearby sanitarium that was the site of a horrific massacre, the group finds themselves hunted by a trio of inbred cannibals: the Hillicker brothers.

Declan O’Brien, a writer, producer and director who specialized in horror fare with credits including three sequels in the Wrong Turn franchise, died on February 16 at age 56.
Born in 1965, O’Brien knew from a young age that he would be involved in film. He left for California from Rochester, NY to become an actor. When that didn’t work out, he decided to go to college and get a film degree and graduated from California State Polytechnic University at Pomona. He was able to turn that into a full-time profession and became a producer, writer, and director for film and television domestically and internationally.
He made a name for himself in the horror genre by directing and writing Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead, Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings, and Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines. Additionally, he directed other horror films including Joy Ride 3: Roadkill, and 2010’s Sharktopus.

Here's a lesson from Joy Ride 3: Roadkill. Don't mess with Rusty Nail. It never ends well. The trucker with a sadistic streak is up to his old tricks again when he targets a group of streetcar racers on their way to a rally. In the most graphic of the Joy Ride series, Rusty cranks up the pain and bloodshed as he teaches these young guns the importance of road etiquette.
During a break from filming one of Rusty's kills, actor Ken Kirzinger spoke to FEARnet about putting his own stamp on Rusty Nail, the character's motivations and possibly returning to Camp Crystal Lake.
You played Jason Voorhees in Freddy vs. Jason, and he has a certain demeanor. How did you approach Rusty Nail?
I watched the other two Joyrides. When I read the script, I felt like Rusty had more character in this one. I wanted to play that up.

Don’t mess with truck drivers. Didn’t we learn that lesson from Rusty Nail the first time around?
So the crazy killer truck driver is back in the next installment in “Joy Ride 3.”
In the third film, a group of street racers took a short cut through a lone highway to only encounter and piss off Rusty Nail.
Latino-Review had an exclusive interview with Jesse Hutch, one of the young racers being hunted down by Rusty Nail in the film.
Through e-mail correspondence, Hutch discussed about the production, reuniting with Ken Kirzinger since “Freddy Vs. Jason” and hoping to star in a J.J. Abrams movie one day.
“Joy Ride 3” is out on Blu-ray and DVD today.

Absolutely nobody suffers from road rage like Rusty Nail. In 2001's thriller Joy Ride, the growly-voiced trucker taught a trio of travelers a deadly lesson for pulling a prank on him. The direct-to-dvd sequel, Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead found Rusty targeting some youngsters who were stranded and stupidly "borrowed" a car from him. Now, the bloodiest instalment, Joy Ride 3: Roadkill, hits DVD today.
The movie follows a bunch of streetcar racers – Jordan <Jesse Hutch>, Jewel <Kirsten Prout>, Mickey <Ben Hollingsworth>, Alisa <Leela Savasta>, Austin <Gianpaolo Venuta> and Bobby <Jake Manley> - on the way to a rally. A little too cocky for their own good, they commit the ultimate driving sin against Rusty <Ken Kirzinger> and pay the price for their recklessness.
"They speed past him and Rusty takes exception to it," states Hollingsworth during a break on production. "He pulls out in front of them. They are hotshot kids in a new race car and they show him up and speed past him.

Actor Paul Walker starred in the first Joy Ride feature, way back in 2001. It is thirteen years later and villain Rusty Nail is still cruising back roads and highways, in search of more victims. Joy Ride 3: Road Kill will release through video-on-demand June 3rd and home entertainment formats June 17th (DVD, Blu-ray); Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will handle the home release. As well, this time around, director Declan O'Brien (Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines) helms the chaos. Ken Kirzinger (Freddy vs. Jason), Kirsten Prout, Ben Hollingsworth, Dean Armstrong, and Jesse Hutch will star. Now, the first teaser for Joy Ride 3 is here! Rusty Nail is targeting street racers. Road Rally 1000 is getting set to start and the Nail wants to punish the competition. Blood and body parts will fly, on the racetrack and on the open road. Irish director Declan O'Brien has been replaced by Re-kill director Valeri Milev for the sixth installment in the Wrong Turn series. It has been ten years since actress Eliza Dushku played Jessie, a woman chased by a gang of cannibal hillbillies. A ten year run with five sequels makes the Wrong Turn film series one of the longest running horror franchises in recent history. And, a few updates have been released for Wrong Turn 6. This production has already started shooting in Sophia, Bulgaria. As well, several casting announcements have been released. Most recently, Sadie Katz of House of Bad (2013) fame has joined the cast, along with: Aqueela Zoll (Killjoy Goes to Hell), Anthony Ilott, Chris Jarvis, Rollo Skinner and Billy Ashworth. Fox Entertainment will produce this latest sequel as it did with Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines. Story details are being kept in mystery. However, horror fans can preview more cast and crew details below.

Before we begin with the review of Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines, let's begin, as usual, with a quick history lesson:
2003 -- Wrong Turn, a horror film about some unfortunate young people who run afoul of some vile backwoods hillbilly cannibals while traveling through the West Virginia woodlands, does pretty decent business for a "no-name" horror flick (it grossed about $28 million in North America) but went on to become a big renter at the video stores as well as a heavy-rotation cable TV favorite. The movie has a strong cast, some solid tension, a few nasty shocks, and a bunch of great practical effects from the late Stan Winston and his cohorts. 2007 -- Wrong Turn 2: Dead End premieres on DVD, and while it lacks the appreciable "seriousness" of its predecessor, this "Dtv" follow-up turned out to be a lot more amusing than any horror fan could reasonably expect. In...

*there are spoilers here. Director/writer: Declan O'Brien. Cast: Doug Bradley, Roxanne McKee, Camilla Arfwedson, Borislav Iliev, Peter Brooke, Paul Luebke, Kyle Redmond-Jones, Radoslav Parvanov, Amy Lennox, Duncan Wisbey, Oliver Hoare, George Karlukovski, and Simon Ginty. The Wrong Turn series of films has become a little confusing to follow. Two mutant hillbillies were killed in the original Wrong Turn film: Saw Tooth and One Eye. This left Three Finger alone to fight in Wrong Turn 2: Dead End and Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead. Three Finger's deformed son Three Toes would participate in the second sequel. And, in Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines, the action begins after Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings and before the original Wrong Turn and the next two sequels. Are you confused now too? Director Declan O'Brien has had to play around with the timeline of this horror franchise a bit as many of the...

I disliked Wrong Turn, really enjoyed Wrong Turn 2: Dead End, skipped Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead, gave Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings a look and was mildly amused and now comes Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines, which seems to have either abandoned the original Wrong Turn group of hillbilly, inbred, cannibal mountain men or is featuring their relatives. Hallowe'en is still a month away, but following the recent new Texas Chainsaw trailer, here's news of the franchise's younger sibling / bastard offspring Wrong Turn. Fourth instalment Bloody Beginnings is only just arriving on these shores (described as "weapons grade shit" in a recent visit to Empire's Kim Newman's Video Dungeon), but the Us is one instalment ahead of us. Here then, is the trailer for Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines. What's going on here? Well, this is a follow-on from Bloody Beginnings, so a sequel to a prequel, which we guess means that this is the first "adventure" for de facto series icon Three Finger and his cohorts since they escaped from the asylum. Here we're in a small West-Virginian town, holding its traditional mountain-man festival - "A wild night of music and mischief" - when the Hellbillies infiltrate to spoil everyone's fun and eat their eyeballs. Hate when that happens.

We've yet to see Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings arrive on these shores, but the franchise is already plowing ahead with more backwoods, mountain-man, cannibal shenanigans. Wrong Turn 5 is now underway, with erstwhile Pinhead Doug Bradley heading up the cast. The cheerfully gnarly series has been quietly bludgeoning away for almost a decade now. It began with Rob Schmidt's original Hills Have Eyes knock-off in 2003, boasting bloody FX work by the late, great Stan Winston, and surprising everyone by being quite good. Joe Lynch's Dtv sequel Dead End was also better than you might have imagined, and had Rollins in it.Since that point, the series has been adopted by Declan O'Brien (Sharktopus). He made little impression with his forgettable third instalment Left For Dead, but rallied with Bloody Beginnings, a fun prequel which took the action out of the woods and into an abandoned sanitarium, and...

Director Declan O'Brien (Wrong Turn 3) again sets out to direct a Wrong Turn film. This time the title is Wrong Turn 4 or Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings. This third sequel is really a prequel as events take place before the first film in 1973. Then their path of destruction is set, with some cozy campers coming by for a visit in 2003. They will not stay long, however. Before you know it Wrong Turn 4 has turned into an enjoyable horror feature that is unfortunately hampered with elements of predictability.
These three killers, mentioned above, appear in Wrong Turn 3; so, you know that they will be surviving this film. Only one question remains: how steep will the body count be?...
