With Lars von Trier’s The Kingdom Exodus due to world premiere at the upcoming Venice Film Festival, Zentropa has dropped a look at the kinetic opening sequence as well as a set of new posters (check out the video above and see photos below).
The Danish release for the series has also been set with Viaplay premiering it on October 9 before it airs on Dr at a later date.
The opening sequence introduces the large cast, which includes old acquaintances from previous seasons as well as new faces in the supernatural universe.
This is the final season of von Trier’s cult series which completes the trilogy that initially began in the 1990s. The Kingdom was set in a hospital built on top of the old bleaching ponds in Copenhagen, where evil has taken root.

Danish editor Molly Malene Stensgaard, best known for her decades-long collaboration with Lars von Trier, won’t be returning for the third season of his cult series “The Kingdom,” she confirmed at Karlovy Vary Intl. Film Festival, where she also joined the Crystal Globe jury.
“It will be strange,” she admitted. Ghita Norby, Soren Pilmark and Peter Mygind will reprise their original roles.
“I did [‘The Kingdom’] less than a year after graduating from film school, where I learnt all sorts of rules. The first thing I heard from Lars was: ‘Forget them.’ It felt odd to stop this work relationship after almost 25 years. But it also felt right.”
After “The Kingdom,” which premiered in 1994 – with Jacob Thuesen and Pernille Bech Christensen also on editing duties – they went on to work on, among other films, “The Idiots,” “Dancer in the Dark” and “Melancholia,” with 2018 “The House That Jack Built” marking their final collaboration,...

Published in 2015, Ane Riel’s novel Resin found itself the winner of four major Scandinavian literary awards on its way to international bestseller status. It’s no wonder then that it would be optioned as a film so soon afterwards by fellow Danes Daniel Borgman (director) and Bo Hr. Hansen (screenwriter). A dark thriller centered upon a close-knit family of hermits, the story unfolds as though of two worlds: theirs and ours. Jens (Peter Plaugborg) and Maria (Sofie Gråbøl) created this division intentionally as an irrational fear born from some unknown source of paranoia takes hold. Untrusting of the world that bore them, they decide to fake their daughter’s death as a means to sever their societal ties and protect young Liv (Vivelill Søgaard Holm) from its corruption.
The opening scene therefore epitomizes this duality as Jens screams Liv’s name from the water. He’s inconsolably distraught with...

Kate Winslet, Diane Keaton, and Mia Wasikowska have signed on to star in “Blackbird,” a remake of Bille August’s Danish-language “Silent Heart,” with Roger Mitchell directing.
Millennium Films is producing the movie. Producers are Sherryl Clark and Millennium’s David Bernardi. Millennium’s Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, Jeffrey Greenstein, and Jonathan Yunger are executive producing.
Mitchell will direct from a script by “Silent Heart” screenwriter Christian Torpe. Shooting is planned for August in London.
Keaton will play a terminally ill mother who brings her family together for one last weekend before she commits suicide. Winslet and Wasikowsa will play her daughters.
In “Silent Heart,” released in 2014, the mother was suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and was planning to pursue euthanasia with the help of her husband at the end of the weekend. But the decision became difficult to handle for the daughters and brought old conflicts to the surface.

Danish cinema appears to be going through something of a new wave at present, with something of a contemporary Dogme 95 movement being recreated, with host of brilliantly naturalistic pictures released. At the heart of this revival is Michael Noer, who co-directed R alongside Tobias Lindholm (who had himself made A Hijacking, and written The Hunt), now going solo with the harrowing drama Northwest.
Noer was once a documentarian, and he tells us how that benefited him when tackling a dramatic, narrative feature. He also discusses why he decided to use real criminals and non-professionals actors for this piece.
How did the idea for Northwest first come about?
I’m not really an ideas kind of person, if that makes any sense. What I mean by this, is that I have a documentary background. I met my editor when I went to film school and we’ve always worked together and made maybe 15-20 films,...

In Competition is obviously the most prestigious place to play during the Cannes Film Festival, but the riches of the fest is such that the sidebar sections often have terrific discoveries too. Two new first looks have arrived from two films playing outside competition. The first is Lisandro Alonso’s “Jauja” starring Viggo Mortensen. It’s playing in the Un Certain Regard section alongside films like Ryan Gosling’s debut “Lost River” and Ned Benson’s “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.” Starring Mortensen and Danish actress Ghita Nørby, “Jauja” centers on a Danish father (Mortensen) who, along with his daughter, settles in the desolate Jauja region in Patagonia Argentina. Essentially a desert that exists in a realm beyond the confines of civilization, it’s an inhospitable place. A bunch of new photos of the spare-looking film are below. Up next, we have a first look of “The Salvation” starring another Danish actor,...

Ghita Nørby stars in family drama to be shot on Danish island of Funen.
While preparing two German features – new adaptions of Russian author Vladimir Nabokov’s Laughter in the Dark and Austrian author Stefan Zweig’s Beware of Pity - Danish Oscar-winning director Bille August will on Monday start principal photography for a new Danish family drama, Quiet Heart (Stille hjerte), on the island of Funen.
From an original story by Christian Torpe, the Jesper Mothorst production for Sf Film willl reunite August with Danish actress Ghita Nørby, who played the lead in his Ingmar Bergman film from 1992, The Best Intentions (Den goda viljan), which received the Palme d’Or in Cannes.
August also won the top prize in Cannes for Pelle the Conqueror (Pelle Erobreren/1988), which went on to collect the Golden Globe and the Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Feature.
