- Was for many years the host of Australia's top TV award programme, "The Logies Award Show" and once, famously (in 1973), was upstaged by hopelessly drunk American actor Michael Cole, best-known for his role in the American TV series, Mod Squad (1968).
- Shared a lengthy kiss with Rove McManus during the 'Australia Unites' telethon to raise money for the World Vision Tsunami appeal in January 2005. A caller pledged to donate $10,000 if Rove & Bert kissed on air, which they did, to the amusement of the celebrities in attendance at Melbourne's Telstra Dome, and the millions watching on live television.
- Was admitted to the hospital on June 8, 2005, suffering from a virus. Several step-ins were asked to take over Good Morning Australia (1993) until he recovered. It was the first time in the 14 years the show has been on air, that Bert has ever had a day off hosting "Good Morning Australia".
- There are many faces that I know from the screen but don't know them personally. You might feel the same way? You know, 'where's this old poof come from?'
- [on Waleed Aly and Susan Carland] You and I have a lot in common. I think the beautiful story is that your lovely wife, she decided to convert to your faith, and it's news now to everyone that Patti has done the same for me. She now drinks and has her own TAB account, which is just fantastic.
- Speaking of young talent, Graham Kennedy was always the sort of man who nurtured young talent. He enjoyed giving young people a chance on television, he was a great mentor, he mentored a lot of young people. You knew if you went to his dressing room it was locked, he will be inside doing some mentoring. Don Lane was a mentor too. He did a hell of a lot of mentoring.
- [on Muhammad Ali] I like the boy! There's nothing wrong with saying that? Hang on, no, wait, I'll change religion, I'll do anything for you, I don't care! What's wrong with saying that?! I like the boy! I mean I like the man!
