Running for eight seasons and three television movies, the USA Network's popular crime comedy series "Psych" debuted in 2006 and put the fun back in murder mysteries. The series follows private investigator Shawn Spencer (James Roday Rodriguez) and his lifelong best friend, Burton "Gus" Guster (Dulé Hill), as they work with the Santa Barbara Police Department to solve tricky crimes. In a premise similar to "The Mentalist" (but predating that CBS procedural by two years), Shawn is brought in due to his purported psychic abilities. However, his keen observational skills fuel his crimefighting.
More than just a standard crime show, "Psych" leans into the comedic chemistry between its ensemble cast, buoyed by an extensive roster of guest stars each season to join in on Shawn and Gus' irreverent antics. As the series progresses, "Psych" incorporates more overt pop culture references, from parodies of popular films to an entire musical episode.

Early on in the Psych pilot, Shawn Spencer’s (James Roday Rodriguez) ludicrous plot to impersonate a psychic in order to solve crime suddenly takes on grave stakes: Chief Vick (Kirsten Nelson) informs him that if he’s lying, he’ll be prosecuted for hindering a police investigation. Just like that, he’s locked into his lie, and has no choice but to let it snowball—into a private eye business with his best friend Burton Guster (Dulé Hill), but also into a lucrative consultancy gig for the Santa Barbara Police Department that, psychic antics be damned, legitimately saves lives.
But while it’s the Chief who put the fear of God into Shawn, the true threat to his secret was always one Carlton Jebediah Lassiter (Timothy Omundson). In the early seasons, Lassiter was the perfect foil: a by-the-book detective obsessed with proper procedure and with hypermasculinity, who had patience...

There was always talk of continuing the show, and for the fans, it felt like a promise. A when, not an if. Finally, Psych: The Movie was announced in early 2017, with plans for...

Psych is officially set for another small screen reunion between James Roday’s Shawn Spencer and Dulé Hill’s Burton Guster for more pseudo-psychic sleuthing, thanks to the official order for a sequel TV movie, which, is now titled Psych 2: Lassie Come Home.
Interestingly, unlike 2017’s Psych: The Movie, the follow-up, as it turns out, will not premiere on the show’s old home of USA Network, with the reveal that it will instead debut on NBCU’s streaming service, Peacock. The move occurs after USA gave the initial greenlight for a second two-hour Psych TV movie back in February of 2019.

It’s been six years since “Psych” aired its series finale on USA Network after an eight-season run, but the property is hardly out of cases for its central detective duo.
“Even on the pilot, I was saying we’re going to do five seasons and a movie, and as we got past five seasons we had to just start upping our expectations,” said creator Steve Franks during Atx Television Festival’s virtual reunion panel Sunday. “Then we stopped speculating on the seasons and I added it to six movies. So we got eight seasons, six movies; we’re in two. I think if we start speaking it into existence, it’ll start to happen.”
With a loyal fanbase that’s still clamoring for more shenanigans and a creative team whose bonds only grow stronger with time, there’s still ambitious plans to keep following these characters into the future.

Psych fans, prepare to have your patience tested. The comedy’s second made-for-tv movie, which was originally going to premiere in 2019 on USA Network, is now being held until 2020, when it will debut on NBCUniversal’s just-titled Peacock streaming service, our sister site Deadline reports.
And speaking of titles, the second Psych movie will be called Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, a reference to Timothy Omundon’s character, Santa Barbara Police Chief Carlton Lassiter. Psych fans will have to wait a little longer for the second movie sequel. Originally slated to premiere in 2019, the film will not debut until at least spring 2020. That is because the movie is moving from USA Network, home of the original Psych series and Psych: The Movie, to Peacock, NBCU’s upcoming streaming service, which launches in April 2020.
The sequel, fka Psych: The Movie 2, has been given a cheeky new title, Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, named after one of the show’s main characters, Santa Barbara Police Chief Carlton Lassiter, played by Tim Omundson.
Moving the film from a linear cable network to a streaming platform makes sense. Movies are one of the hardest business proposition for an ad-supported linear network because they are expensive, difficult to justify a major promotional push because they are one-offs, and they have very limited shelf life. Meanwhile, original movies have been thriving on streaming platforms,...

Psych: The Movie 2 is taking shape with the teasing of two guest stars.
Series vet Timothy Omundson — who for the sequel will fully reprise his role as Police Chief Lassiter (after sitting out nearly all of the first TV-movie as the actor recovered from a stroke) — teased on Twitter that (a barely obscured) Joel McHale will be a “very special guest star” for the follow-up.
Westworld‘s Jimmi Simpson meanwhile tweeted out a video in which he steps off a Psych-branded longboard (covet!) to suggest that he will put in another encore, having played the Mr. Yang-obsessed, dearly departed police psychologist Dr.

Shawn and Gus reunite for more zany investigations Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, which heads to NBCU's Peacock
Psych is officially set for another small screen reunion between James Roday’s Shawn Spencer and Dulé Hill’s Burton Guster for more pseudo-psychic sleuthing, thanks to the official order for a sequel TV movie, which, just officially revealed its title to be Psych 2: Lassie Come Home.
Interestingly, unlike 2017’s Psych: The Movie, the follow-up, as it turns out, will not premiere on the show’s old home of USA Network, with the reveal that it will instead debut on NBCU’s streaming service, Peacock. The move occurs after USA gave the initial greenlight for a second two-hour Psych TV movie back in February.

“Psych” will never die. Long after anyone reading this is gone from the Earth, digital versions of James Roday and Dulé Hill will be solving crimes in and around Santa Barbara. Latest proof: USA announced on Thursday that another film continuation of its long-running series will be coming to the network by the end of 2019. The familiar cast of characters, played by Roday, Hill, Maggie Lawson, Kirsten Nelson, Corbin Bernsen, and Tim Omundson will all be returning to reprise their roles.
Over time, the show has gone from quirky freshman detective comedy to a legitimate fandom phenomenon, taking “Psych” to Comic-Con levels of anticipation before the first of the movies premiered in the fall of 2017.
At that sneak peek two summers ago, series creator Steve Franks expressed a strong desire to keep the film franchise going, even if “Psych” had ended its life as a TV show. “Psych: The Movie...
