Worked at Fox from 1937 to 1939, under Darryl F. Zanuck, as an associate producer, and at MGM from 1939 to his death in 1958. He was a producer from 1949 to 1958.
Was the nephew of famous MGM studio chief Nicholas Schenck and United
Artists studio boss Joseph M. Schenck. His mother, Anne Nayfack, was Nicholas Schenck's younger sister.
Before he became a producer at MGM, he was head of their Business
Affairs Dept., and as such was responsible for negotiating contracts
with the studio's stable of stars.
His large Beverly Hills mansion was later owned by the actress Elke Sommer and her first husband, columnist Joe Hyams. They claimed (not too seriously) that it was haunted by his ghost.
