Scott P. Murphy is a NYC area based feature film, television, music video, and commercial production designer. Architecturally trained, he began his career working for noted architects Frank O. Gehry and Richard Meier before shifting his focus to set design and art direction. He recently completed work on season 3 of the Paramount+ series "Mayor of Kingstown".
Other recent projects of note are the AMC network "Walking Dead" limited series "Dead City" set primarily in a post apocalyptic New York City, the first season of the Showtime limited series "Your Honor" starring Bryan Cranston set in New Orleans, the JJ Abrams period pilot "Duster" set in the American southwest in 1972 for HBO Max, and the pilot for the 1968 period piece "The Spook Who Sat By The Door". Murphy designed numerous Marvel shows for Netflix such as "The Punisher" (seasons 1 and 2), Daredevil (season 2) and "Luke Cage" (season 2). Other recent credits include the critically acclaimed Netflix series "Bloodline", "Ray Donovan" for Showtime and Joe Carnahan's feature "Stretch" starring Patrick Wilson, Chris Pine, and Ed Helms. Other feature film production design credits include "Remember Me", directed by Allen Coulter, starring Robert Pattinson, Lena Olin, and Pierce Brosnan.
Murphy's stylish period designs for NBC's "The Playboy Club" garnered him an Art Directors Guild nomination for Outstanding Production Design for a single camera series. Prior to that, his work on "The Sopranos" earned him three Emmy nominations for Outstanding Art Direction.
Murphy's art direction and set design work can be seen in the blockbuster feature films "Slide-Man", "Spider-Man 2", "The Sixth Sense", "Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind", "Men In Black", "Lolita", And "Dead Presidents".
Additionally, Murphy was the series production designer for the American Film Institute award winning series "Life". He has also designed pilots for popular television series such as "Sons Of Anarchy" and "The Sarah Connor Chronicles".
Commercial production design clients include Samsung, Target, Hyundai, LifeLock, Purina, Allstate and Smirnoff.
Murphy attended the graduate program at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-ARC) and did his undergraduate studies at Iowa State University.
