You’d think that the week that saw the unveiling of the Oscar nominations would see a monopoly on coverage across the Internet’s biggest film sites. While it’s true that a storm brewed quickly over the inevitable snubs – racially motivated or otherwise – there was a lot more besides the celebrations and outrage to delight and horrify movie fans.
The comic book movie machine marches on, with new revelations about Marvel, Fox and DC’s biggest projects, and there were potentially massive reveals for Star Wars, Fast & Furious and Alien. And remarkably, it all sounds like good news – especially the suggestion that Marvel’s greatest cult hero might be about to get the worthy stand-alone he’s needed for years.
Behold, the biggest revelations from the last seven days in movie news…

Way back when in July of last year, we reported rumors of Darth Vader making his triumphant return in the first "Star Wars" spinoff film, "Rogue One." The film follows a band of Rebels in their mission to obtain the plans for the original Death Star, which eventually leads to its destruction.
The story for this film is set to take place prior to "A New Hope," and as such, it wouldn't be completely out of place for everyone's favorite Sith Lord to make his way back into the franchise. What's better is that this would be Darth Vader in his evil prime, meaning that if he were to show up, then he'd be more dangerous than ever to our Rebel heroes. However, despite the plausibility of the rumor, we've received no official confirmation that he would, in fact, make an appearance in the picture.
But don't give up on this rumor just yet.

The original voice of Darth Vader, the Empire’s most iconic villain, could be returning to the franchise in the upcoming Star Wars standalone movie. In a report disclosing a slew of details on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Making Star Wars announced that James Earl Jones is headed back to the vocal booth to lay down his dulcet tones as the former Anakin Skywalker.
Rumors of Vader’s appearance in the spinoff have been circulating for some time now, with this latest batch adding further fuel to the fire. The site, whose reporting on The Force Awakens was impeccable, goes on to explain how Disney has assembled a “Darth Vader dream team.” That includes Jones, as well as a crew who’ve “meticulously recreated” Vader’s costume from A New Hope. And not just any team: Brian Muir’s crew, who were drafted into the galaxy back in...

We knew that Jj Abrams was making a stand by deciding to film the new Star Wars movie using filmstock instead of going all digital (as the prequels did) and we also knew that Episode VII would be getting a release in IMAX. What we weren't sure about, is whether or not the film would be shot using native IMAX cameras or would simply be post-converted later. A new images has given us our answer.
Last night Bad Robot (Abrams' production company) posted this image to Twitter:

It didn't take long for fans to make the connection that this must be from the set of Star Wars: Episode VII back when they were filming in the desert in May. Slashfilm went a step further by emailing their IMAX contact about the image and got confirmation that Episode VII was...

So today's been a pretty big day for "Guardians of the Galaxy." First there was the rumor that Groot may be the tree that walks like a man and talks like a Vin Diesel, and then there was the first look at a heavily-disguised Glenn Close from the film's first set photos. Then the "Guardians" news hat trick—thirty seconds of the unfinished Sdcc footage leaked online, after being captured on a camera phone at Disney's D23 Expo over the weekend.
And yeah, it was awesome. And yes, it has been taken down. But for those of you who missed it, there are plenty of screen grabs and GIFs on Tumblr—because of course there are. Due to the total awesomeness of the footage and our undying love of raccoons with heavy artillery, we've taken the principle cast as seen in the footage and compared them to their comic book counterparts.

A new report from Bleeding Cool mentions that prop sculptor Brian Muir is busy at Pinewood Studios working on "Guardians of the Galaxy." Why is Brian Muir such a big deal? When you're the guy that sculpted Darth Vader's mask, co-created the Space Jockey for "Alien" and worked on the Ark of the Covenant prop for "Raiders of the Lost Ark," you get to be a big deal. For life.
"We’re told that there’s something of a Star Wars vibe to the plans for Guardians," Bleeding Cool states, "and Muir’s appointment is a nice manifestation of this."
Muir shied away from specifying exactly what he was working on, but odds are its Star-Lord's mask. Chris Pratt will be the man behind Star-Lord's mask, which has become synonymous with the character since it debuted in 2007's "Annihilation: Conquest" event. The helmet is of alien origin,...

Bleeding Cool reports that famed prop sculptor Brian Muir Aka the man who crafted Darth Vader’s mask and armor will work on Guardians of the Galaxy. The movie is supposedly going to have a Star Wars vibe to it, so this move makes sense.
Brendon Connelly from Bleeding Cool writes:
I tried to ascertain if he was working on Star Lord’s mask, and was just given the run around. Which leads me to believe he is.
Here’s an up close of Star Lord’s mask:
Guardians of the Galaxy will be directed by James Gunn (Slither 2006, Super 2010).
Chris Pratt will play Star Lord and Dave Bautista will play Drax The Destroyer.
The film is still in the casting stage but is set to release August 1, 2014.

According to Bleeding Cool, they have learned that Brian Muir, the movie prop sculptor who worked on the Ark of the Covenant for Raiders of the Lost Ark (as well as the iconic props and costumes mentioned in the teaser above and many, many more) is currently hard at work on Guardians of the Galaxy at Pinewood Studios in London. He also worked on Thor: The Dark World. When they asked their sources whether or not he is crafting Star-Lord's mask, they were "given the run around", although they did find out that "there’s something of a Star Wars vibe to the plans for Guardians." This is very good news for the movie, especially if we're going to see the costumes which were featured in the above piece of concept art unveiled at last year's San Diego Comic Con.

We've always been big supporters of what Jamie Benning has done with his outstanding filmumentaries, beginning with three comprehensive behind-the-scenes commentaries for the three original Star Wars movies, and now with the first Indiana Jones movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark. What Jamie does is complile a ridiculous amount of behind-the-scenes footage, interviews and more, and then run it over the film itself giving the viewer great insight into the making of the film, minute by minute. For his latest filmumentary, Raiding the Lost Ark, Benning also sought out his own interviews, speaking with Wolf Kahler (Colonel Dietrich), Brian Muir (legendary sculptor), Mark Mangini (part of the Oscar winning sound team) and Sean Young, who spoke about her audition for the part of...
