O’Neal was one of the true heartthrobs of the New Hollywood era, making many who saw him in “Love Story,” “What’s Up Doc?,” “Barry Lyndon,” and “The Driver” swoon. He also was much more than a pretty face, showing a capacity to let the great directors of the era mold him into something so much more powerful than his looks. And his life was defined in some ways, also, by heartbreak and misfortune: the loss of his great love Farrah Fawcett in 2009, the years-long legal troubles of his son Redmond, the rupture of his relationship with son Griffin, and fraught connection to his daughter Tatum. Fifty years ago, a novice child actress named Tatum O’Neal captivated the world in Paper Moon, the Great Depression-set classic about a motherless little girl (O’Neal) and a grifter — possibly her father (played by her actual father, Ryan O’Neal) — tasked with transporting her from Kansas to an aunt in Missouri.
Her performance — funny, heartbreaking, assured beyond her years — won 10-year-old Tatum an Oscar for best supporting actress at the 1974 Academy Awards. Styled adorably in a tuxedo and tomboy haircut, a stunned Tatum — who was chaperoned by her grandfather (Ryan was overseas making Barry Lyndon with Stanley Kubrick at the time; her mother, ’60s TV actress Joanna Moore, was long absent, having succumbed to amphetamine addiction) — told the audience at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion: “All I really want to thank is my director, Peter Bogdanovich, and my father. Thank you.” A half-century later, she still holds the record for youngest Oscar winner.

During The Andy Griffith Show’s eight-season run, Sheriff Andy Taylor had a few serious girlfriends and several one-off dates. One of his more serious love interests, Peggy McMillian, portrayed by Joanna Moore, was a nurse who exited Mayberry shortly before Helen Clump, Andy’s eventual wife, came on the scene. While Peggy only lasted a few episodes, she left a lasting impression on many fans. Some fans argue that Andy belonged with Peggy and not Helen. They proclaim that Andy Griffith had more chemistry with Joanna Moore. So why was Peggy McMillian written off of the show?
Joanna Moore and Andy Griffith are rumored to have had an affair during ‘The Andy Griffith Show’
According to Andy and Don: The Making of a Friendship and a Classic American TV Show, a 2015 book by Daniel de Visé, Joanne Moore, and Andy Griffith, might have had a closer connection than many people think.

One of Orson Welles’ best has arrived in 4K! Kino Lorber has revived Universal’s 3-version study of the bordertown crime & corruption drama, that knocks us out with Welles’ colorful, weird characters, intricate scene blocking and infinitely creative camera work. Almost all of the extras from the earlier DVD and Blu-ray editions are here, with added expert commentary (the tally of tracks is now five). The performances are superb — Welles won’t lay off the candy bars, Janet Leigh wisely avoids the motel shower and Charlton Heston is actually fine as a ‘pretty unlikely’ Mexican. We’ve seen this show ten times — it’s so dense that each viewing brings new revelations.

She's opening up. Actress Tatum O'Neal became the youngest person to win an Oscar at ten years old back in 1974, but even though she achieved lots of success as a child star, she also experienced a lot of heartbreaking instances of sexual assault and abuse as a young child. After opening up about all of the years of sexual assault and abuse she suffered as a kid, Tatum revealed more details in a new interview with The Mail on Sunday. Tatum, 54, said that her parents — late actress Joanna Moore and Ryan O'Neal — struggled with alcoholism and addiction in her early years, and that made Tatum susceptible to the type of assault and abuse she suffered. Actress Tatum O’Neal, the youngest Academy Award winner in history, has opened up and claimed she was sexually assaulted multiple times as a child.
O’Neal, now 54, posted a letter on Instagram that talked about her attacks, tying it into the recent accusations and recriminations regarding the alleged attacks on Christine Blasey Ford by Brett Kavanaugh, who was confirmed today as an Associated Justice of the Us Supreme Court.
In her post, O’Neal said all the assaults were by older men who she thought “were safe.”
Because both her mother, actress Joanna Moore, and father Ryan O’Neal struggled with alcohol and addictions, she was not closely supervised. “When your parents are off getting drunk or high, they are not watching what happens to their children. I suffered years of abuse, both emotional and sexual.”

Acting on The Andy Griffith Show felt a lot like living in Mayberry, Nc, the idyllic burg where the classic 1960 to 1968 sitcom was set. "It was warm and funny, like the show," Ron Howard, who played Sheriff Andy Taylor’s adorable son, Opie, exclusively told Closer Weekly in the magazine's latest issue, on newsstands now. "I learned hard work and fun were not diametrically opposed. In fact, they could work hand in hand." But off camera, star Andy Griffith’s life wasn’t as bucolic. The actor endured failed marriages, allegations of alcoholism and infidelity, a debilitating disease, and the tragic death of one of his children. And he didn’t always deal with crises in the cool, calm manner of Sheriff Taylor or lawyer Ben Matlock. "He could have this explosive temper," Daniel de Visé, author of Andy & Don: The Making of a Friendship and a Classic American TV Show,...

Her presence on screen has always been powerful—a statement that’s supported by the fact that she’s the youngest actor ever to have won a competitive Academy Award for her role in the movie Paper Moon in 1973. Jane Fonda: From ‘Vietnam Traitor’ to AFI Award and Screen Legend status (photo: Jason Bateman and Jane Fonda in ‘This Is Where I Leave You’) (See previous post: “Jane Fonda Movies: Anti-Establishment Heroine.”) Turner Classic Movies will also be showing the 2014 AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony honoring Jane Fonda, the former “Vietnam Traitor” and Barbarella-style sex kitten who has become a living American screen legend (and healthy-living guru). Believe it or not, Fonda, who still looks disarmingly great, will be turning 77 years old next December 21; she’s actually older than her father Henry Fonda was while playing Katharine Hepburn’s ailing husband in Mark Rydell’s On Golden Pond. (Henry Fonda died at age 77 in August 1982.) Jane Fonda movies in 2014 and 2015 Following a 15-year absence (mostly during the time she was married to media mogul Ted Turner), Jane Fonda resumed her film acting career in 2005, playing Jennifer Lopez...

Cancer-stricken Ryan O'Neal has lost contact with his troubled son Griffin because the actor has no idea where he has been imprisoned.
The Love Story star's eldest son was sentenced to 16 months behind bars in February following a car crash last August, when he was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.
But O'Neal, who last month announced he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, reveals he's still yet to visit Griffin, 47 - the actor's son with late actress Joanna Moore.
During an appearance on U.S. talk show The View on Tuesday, he confessed, "I don't even know what prison he's in. They don't tell me."
He did not elaborate on who was banning him from finding out where his son is being held.
But O'Neal admits he has patched up his differences with his daughter Tatum - Griffin's older sister - and she has been taking care of her sick father after overcoming her own issues at a drug rehabilitation centre earlier this year.
He added, "Tatum is out and about and doing much better, looks wonderful and is happy. She's always happiest when I'm ill because she can mother me and fawn over me and take care of me."
O'Neal has another son, Redmond, with the late Farrah Fawcett. He is also tackling substance abuse issues in a court-ordered drug treatment programme.

Child star Tatum O'Neal's memoir is an affecting story of a woman who still craves her father's approval
In 1974, a chubby-cheeked little girl with the kind of pudding-bowl haircut utterly typical of the times ascended a stage and gracefully received an award, all grinning excitement. But she hadn't just won the class English prize or come first in the sack race: nine-year-old Tatum O'Neal was picking up the Academy Award for best supporting actress (from Charles Bronson, no less, and besting the likes of Linda Blair and Madeline Kahn) for the film Paper Moon, in which she starred with her father, Ryan, whom she thanked.
Fast-forward a few decades, and Ryan and Tatum are sharing the screen again, this time in a "docu-series" – Tatum quite reasonably points out that the term "reality show" more readily suggests "women fighting, women wearing couture and fighting, and women with money fighting" – intended...

"There was a lot of alcohol around and there was a lot of other things... and I think what happened is there was a party and I just went around going, 'Hey, I'll drink some of that and I'll drink some of that...' and I just remember waking up on the bathroom floor, going, 'Where am I?'"...

Ryan O'Neal's son Griffin has launched a blistering attack on his estranged father, alleging the actor was angry with late partner Farrah Fawcett for having cancer because it "diverted attention" away from him.
The 44-year-old actor, whose mother was late actress Joanna Moore, believes the Love Story star used his battle with leukaemia for sympathy after he was diagnosed with the deadly illness in 2001.
And Griffin insists his dad was furious when his partner Farrah Fawcett was struck down with anal cancer in 2006 because it shifted attention from him.
Speaking to U.S. talk show host Larry King, Griffin recalls, "I remember when she was diagnosed with cancer and my dad got upset and he goes, 'No, I'm dying. You're not dying. I'm dying.' And I said, 'Well, dad, that sounds a little selfish because you're in remission. You have been in remission for years now.'"
Host King then asked Griffin to clarify the statement, asking if the elder O'Neal was "mad" at the Charlie's Angels actress for "having cancer", to which he replied, "Yes, because the attention was diverted to Farrah. He didn't like that. (He's an) absolute complete narcissist in every way."
Griffin went on to accuse his father of staying with Fawcett in the last days of her life to ensure he was included in her will.
And he predicts that Ryan will now cling to his son Redmond, his only child with Fawcett, who the actress left her entire estate to.
Griffin adds, "I think they (Ryan and Redmond) are probably going to get a lot closer now, since Redmond has all the money. Yes, they are close but for reasons that are ill. Ill reasons."...

Ryan O'Neal is desperate to wed longtime lover Farrah Fawcett as she battles against cancer.
The couple, who have both been married previously, have been together since 1982 but never sealed their union by walking down the aisle.
But as Fawcett fights anal cancer, which has spread to her liver since her initial diagnosis in 2006, O'Neal is eager to make an honest woman of the ailing Charlie's Angels actress.
He tells ETonline.com, "I'd do that, I would do that (marry Fawcett). She's still a little bit hesitant. I'm working though, I'm working.
"You know she's been married, I've been married. She's said, 'We have a good thing'. But I said, 'You said that 30 years ago, shouldn't there be a sea change?' Maybe there is, you never know."
The pair has a son, 24-year-old Redmond, together.
Fawcett was wed to actor Lee Majors for nine years and O'Neal married twice in the 1960s, to actresses Joanna Moore and Leigh Taylor-Young.

Actor Ryan O'Neal was arrested at his Malibu, California home and booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm after a fight with his son Griffin O'Neal on Saturday night. Sheriff's deputies and paramedics responded to a call at 12:30 am regarding a suspected battery and say that O'Neal, 65, fired at least one gunshot during the altercation. According to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt John Benedict, "Deputies determined that Mr. Griffin O'Neal was assaulted by his father during a family dispute." He was booked at the Lost Hills Sheriff's Station and released at 5:30 am on Saturday after posting $50,000 bail. Sheriff's sources tell entertainment website Tmz.com that a 22-year-old female friend of Griffin's was "inadvertently" injured at the scene and transported to a local hospital. Authorities would not confirm that the injury was a result of the gunshot. Griffin O'Neal, 42, the son of Ryan and Joanna Moore, has had brushes with the law before and spent 18 days in jail for failing to perform community service ordered by a judge who found him guilty of reckless boating in a 1986 accident that killed the son of film director Francis Ford Coppola. He also pleaded no contest to a drunken driving charge in 1989 and in 1992 agreed to spend one year in a live-in drug rehabilitation program after pleading no contest to charges he shot at his estranged girlfriend's unoccupied car. The latest incident occurred just one day after the family received the news that actress Farrah Fawcett, who was the longtime girlfriend of Ryan and the mother of Griffin's half-brother Redmond, was cancer free after a battle with anal cancer.
