Leading talent agency Wme has signed Donut Media, an automotive-centric and millennial-focused digital media publisher that seeks to combine car culture and pop culture. The signing arrives on the heels of an $800,000 seed round by Donut in May and the launch of a branded content agency, Donut Brand Studio.
“We’ve had a lot of success creating short- and medium-form content around cars and motorsports, but we never intended to stop there,” said Donut co-founder Nick Moceri in a statement. “We’ve had our eye on TV and longer form for a while, and have been looking for a partner who can help us translate our content creation abilities for other mediums.” Moceri added that Wme will aid Donut’s foray into unscripted programming and live events, as well as broadening its relationships with brands and talent.

Directing team Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott, who most recently helmed the action-thriller Bushwick which premiered at Sundance, have signed with UTA.
The visceral action film, which is slated for a theatrical release this summer, follows a Texas military force invading a Brooklyn neighborhood, home to Lucy (Brittany Snow) and Stupe (Dave Bautista). THR's review out of Sundance said: "What distinguishes Bushwick from your standard-issue, boneheaded video game is its cheeky cerebral wit."
In addition, the duo is currently starting to package their next film, Robbery 101, written by Scott Reynolds and produced by Nick Moceri. The film...

Kelly Thompson's superhero novel The Girl Who Would Be King has been optioned for film.
She will team with Logan Pictures to bring her crowdfunded book to the big screen.
The Girl Who Would Be King centres around two young women who develop incredible powers.
While Bonnie struggles to help as many people as she can, destructive and murderous Lola attempts to carve out an empire of crime for herself.
Across the miles that separate them, the pair are linked by a mysterious bond.
"We had a lot of interest in the book. I think we had at least half a dozen legitimate companies (by which I mean companies that even someone like me could instantly recognise) inquiring about the rights," Thompson told io9.
"We also had some more intimate interest from writers and smaller producers, a couple of film agents also came calling. It was all rather overwhelming...

A stylish and soulful film, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night is a film of bad men, dangerous women, love and beautiful images. More than just a vampire film, Ana Lily Amirpour crafts an eerie, moody tone poem that’s a fantastic film to watch.
Bad City an industrial town, filled by all matter of folks from the scrupulous to the shady. Arash (Arash Marandi), one such citizen, longs to just get in his nice car and go. Working as a landscaper and living with his junkie father is proving more difficult, when his father runs afoul of a local drug dealer. A local prostitute (Mozhan Marnò) has just turned 30 and wants to escape as well. They all long for better lives, but are unable to move from their station. This relatively tranquil, yet unfulfilling existence, is slowly shattered as a vampire (Sheila Vand) begins stalking the streets,...
