After the runaway success of Netflix and Tim Burton’s Addams Family stand-alone series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer renewed it for second season in January 2023. That decision came less than three months after the eight-episode Season 1 premiered, eventually becoming the most-watched original series ever on the streamer ever with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things‘ Season 4, Dahmer and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.
Season 1 ending up scoring 12 Emmy nominations, including for Ortega in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, becoming just the third Latina to ever be nominated in a leading actress category. The series won four Emmys, though Ortega lost out to Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson on Emmy night.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, director Tim Burton’s long-awaited sequel to his 1988 classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here), is set to reach theatres on September 6th. Michael Keaton was blunt about what audiences can expect when “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” hits screens, more than 36 years after the first film opened.
“It’s really fucking good,” the actor told theater owners at CinemaCon. And based on the zany look at “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” that Keaton and Tim Burton shared, the collaborators have come up with something that could be out of this Netherworld. Burton, Keaton, and Catherine O’Hara, who co-starred in the original, took the stage at Caesars Palace on Tuesday for Warner Bros.’ presentation to theater owners to hype the sequel’s undead delights.
“I was very nervous to see if we could pull this off again,” Keaton admitted. “But every day just got better.”

“Wednesday’s child is full of woe.”
When Charles Addams was helping turn his amusing gothic New Yorker cartoons into a television series, the little girl needed a name, and he used a line from an old-time children’s poem. He’d been at the drawing board with these characters since 1938, although Gomez and Morticia’s daughter didn’t arrive until 1944. At different times, she was older or younger than her sibling, Pugsley.
Ever since her arrival, Wednesday has been a fixture, her pale skin, pig-tailed black hair, and solemn expression imprinted on future generations of Goth girls. From Lisa Loring to Christina Ricci, the live-action look has endured as the character has aged from her purported six years old in the original series pilot to 18 in the 2010 Broadway musical adaptation.

Winona Ryder is reprising the role of Lydia Deetz. Catherine O’Hara is back as Lydia’s stepmother Delia. But now The Hollywood Reporter has been able to confirm that Jeffrey Jones, who played Lydia’s father Charles in the original movie, is not in the sequel. Few fans expected him to be, as Jones hasn’t gotten a lot of screen acting jobs since 2003, when he pled no contest to “hiring a 14-year-old boy to pose naked for photos, for which he was sentenced to five years probation and ordered to register as a sex offender.” He has been in a few movies since then, but his most substantial job was on the TV series Deadwood. He appeared on 35 episodes of that show...

The ghost with the most is back in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Here’s the first trailer for the Tim Burton-directed sequel, starring Michael Keaton.
It’s been over 30 years, but finally Michael Keaton is back where he belongs – in a pinstriped suit in the middle of a Tim Burton film. The 1988 original Beetlejuice, which also starred Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin, quickly grew into a cult favourite, full of Burton’s trademark dark humour and memorable scenes like the dinner party guests being made to dance to Harry Belafonte’s Day-O (The Banana Boat Song).
Of course, had things turned out differently, we could have had a very different sequel in the 1990s, which had the working title Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. For a variety of reasons, that film never made it to production – we wrote about it in detail here.
The official synopsis for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, meanwhile, reads as follows:

It’s only one minute long, but at least Warner Bros Pictures’ first Beetlejuice Beetlejuice teaser trailer shows the reunion of Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice and Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz. That’s all anyone can ask for in a teaser for a film that’s been three decades in the making.
Two-time Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek) reprises her role as Delia Deetz, alongside Beetlejuice newcomers Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) as Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, and Justin Theroux (Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi) as Rory. The sequel’s cast also includes Monica Bellucci (Spectre), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon), and Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (Poor Things).

Altogether now: Daaaaaayo! Yes, with a version of the opening call of Harry Belafonte's 'Banana Boat Song,' the first teaser for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice announces its intention to A) continue the story of the 1988 film and B) unleash fresh chaos from Michael Keaton's Ghost with the Most. Take a look:
Burton, of course, is back to direct once more, with the likes of Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara reprising their roles alongside Keaton, and new recruits including Wednesday's Jenna Ortega (that show's Alfred Gough and Miles Millar wrote the script).
It has been a long old road back to screens for Keaton's classic character (the second to return in as many years following a certain Caped Crusader), and after decades in development, this has a lot to live up to. Or a lot to die down to? It is Beetlejuice, after all.

Thirty-six years after the original, and after years of pursuing different follow-up ideas, director Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice,” sequel, titled “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” is finally coming to theaters this year. Written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, based on a story by Seth Grahame-Smith (Burton’s “Dark Shadows” and “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”), not much is known about the film other than it’s a follow-up to the original, about a ghost who’s recruited to help haunt a house.

"I myself am strange and unusual," Winona Ryder's goth teen Lydia Deetz proclaims in "Beetlejuice," although she could've just as easily been talking about the movie around her. Tim Burton's supernatural comedy was lightning in a bottle when it landed in 1988, a zealously idiosyncratic (and horny!) affair and a welcome remedy to the decade's consumerist mentality. Now, 36 years later (*wipes brow*), a "Beetlejuice" sequel is finally making its way to the big screen at a time when franchises and IPs may be loosening their grip just a little on the media landscape. The question is, will "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" -- as the film is now officially titled -- be part of the problem or will it mark the start of a long, long-awaited creative renaissance for Burton the director?
If you're looking for reasons to be skeptical about "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," one need only point to Burton's filmography since "Big Fish...

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was in development hell for decades before it finally got made. In 1990, Jonathan Gems was hired to write a sequel that was going to be titled Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. Burton considered having Daniel Waters rewrite that script, Pamela Norris did rewrite it, and Warner Bros. offered Kevin Smith the chance to do another rewrite. He turned it down. Jenna Ortega is among the troupe of new-gen Hollywood faces who’ve offered audiences a glimpse into their acting chops, with the potential for much more.
Having dipped her toes in mainstream waters in the past few years, the actress’ filmography already boasts some incredible credits, especially within the bounds of horror films. The list includes Scream, Scream VI, X, Netflix’s Wednesday, and the upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, a sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 classic.

Double standards seem to be the rule rather than the exception in Tinseltown. Case point: Jenna Ortega and Henry Cavill found themselves at the center of attention because of their quest for authenticity in their respective projects. But the reactions to their actions have been wildly divergent.
Popular for her role in the critically acclaimed Netflix series Wednesday, Ortega, 21, was praised as a hero for her attempts to maintain the character’s authenticity. Fans praised her willingness to bring authenticity and depth to the role, as she “started changing lines” into the script during her time on set.

It's easy to take for granted just how radical the original "Beetlejuice" was. When Tim Burton made his now-classic paranormal comedy in 1988, he was responding to a decade of films that either had a music video polish and conservative bent (see: the collective works of producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer) or sought to recreate the success of Steven Spielberg's crowd-pleasers without the crucial ingredients that give them their artistic merit. "Beetlejuice," on the other hand, had none of that. Far from being saccharine or picture-perfect, it had a lo-fi hand-made quality and a fascination with the dead -- painting the afterlife as neither something ethereal nor grotesque but as monotonous and tedious as the world of the living.
Beneath all its supernatural escapades and weirdness, "Beetlejuice" is also a straightforward tale of clashing cultures. The film pits a recently deceased married couple from the fictional small town of Winter River,...

The 1988 Tim Burton-directed classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here) is finally getting a sequel this year, with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice set to reach theatres on September 6th. Burton directed the sequel, for which Michael Keaton is back in the title role, Winona Ryder is reprising the role of Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O’Hara returns as Lydia’s stepmother Delia. We’ve known for a while that Jenna Ortega will be playing Lydia’s daughter in the film – and during a new interview with Vanity Fair, Ortega talked a little bit about working on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, revealing along the way that her character’s name is Astrid.
Commenting on the original film, Ortega said, “I had always loved the movie. I think the first time I saw it was actually at a friend’s house, and then the rest of the time, I’d see it whenever it was playing on TV around Halloween.

In an interview for Vanity Fair‘s Hollywood Issue, Jenna Ortega detailed her role as the daughter of Winona Ryder’s beloved character in the Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
“I don’t know how much I’m allowed to say, but I am Lydia Deetz’s daughter, so I’ll give that away,” she revealed. “She’s weird, but in a different way and not in the way you’d assume, I would say. The relationship between Lydia and Astrid, my character, is very important. And it’s also really strange because it’s a lot of catching up and putting the pieces together of what’s gone on in Lydia’s life since, which is nice, I think, for anybody who loves the character and is excited to see her again.”

Michael Keaton told People magazine in a recent interview that reuniting with Tim Burton and shooting the “Beetlejuice” sequel (officially titled “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”) was “the most fun I’ve had on set in a long time.” The film is the follow-up to the duo’s 1988 comedy classic. Keaton stressed how refreshing it was to embrace practical filmmaking after “years” spent working with giant green screens. Prior to “Beetlejuice 2,” Keaton reprised his Batman role for the VFX-heavy comic book tentpole “The Flash.”
“On one hand, you’d go, ‘Well, of course it’s the most fun. It looks like fun.’ As you know, it doesn’t always work like that,” Keaton said. “The one thing that [Tim] and I decided on early, early, early on from the beginning, if we ever did it again, I was totally not interested in doing something where there was too much technology. It had to feel handmade.

If you’ve seen the Tim Burton-directed classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here), you know that the key to summoning (or sending away) the title character is saying his name three times. So when Beetlejuice 2 finally went into production, with Burton back at the helm, thirty-five years after the release of the original film, I saw fans suggesting the title of the film should be Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Obviously the filmmakers agreed that was a clever idea, because it has been confirmed that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is the film’s title. This is revealed in a poster that can be seen at the bottom of this article… and while Deadline is claiming the 2024 A.D. bit is part of the title as well, we’re skeptical about that one.

We all love a good superhero origin story. Sure, it’s great to see Spider-Man swing from buildings, but it’s what Uncle Ben tells a young Peter Parker that touches us all. We all love seeing Batman kick the Joker’s teeth in, but we are all fascinated by that tragic night in Crime Alley. So it’s no surprise that the first and greatest superhero of all time should have a TV show about what defines him. There is a reason why Clark Kent is the best of us. While Batman may be the ultimate example of physical perfection, Superman is the pinnacle of the goodness of humanity. But fans have always debated: is Superman Clark Kent, or is Clark Kent just a disguise? I have always argued Superman is just a cape. Clark is the hero who wears it. Smallville is the case for my belief in...

The entertainment law firm of Gendler & Kelly has changed its name as of today to Gendler, Kelly & Cunningham, reflecting the elevation of partner Sarah Cunningham.
Cunningham joined the firm in 2018 and was promoted to partner in 2021. The etching of her name on the firm’s door comes as recognition of her contributions to the respected boutique outfit founded in 1996 by Michael Gendler and Kevin Kelly.
Cunningham “has represented the firm’s clients with an intelligence, diligence, creativity and insight rarely found in one lawyer,” Gendler said. “Her ability to navigate complex deals, coupled with her sensitivity to our clients’ diverse interests and career goals, are a tremendous asset to our firm. In 2021, we made the easy decision to ask Sarah to become the firm’s first new partner in our 26-year history. Thirty-six years after the release of the Tim Burton-directed classic Beetlejuice (watch it Here), we’re finally going to be seeing a sequel when Beetlejuice 2 reaches theatres on September 6th… and as we watch the new film play out on the big screen, we’re apparently not going to be seeing much CGI in it. Star Jenna Ortega told Entertainment Tonight that working on Beetlejuice 2 was “some of the most fun I’ve ever had on a set. Visually, so exciting. Everything was practical. I think we’re not using very much CGI or something like that at all. Everyone did an incredible job. I felt so lucky to be there, it was insane … I can’t wait for people to see.“
Ortega’s comments actually echo something her co-star Michael Keaton – who reprises the role of the titular character – said seven months ago, when the film was still in production.

The Wednesday scripts are in, and star Jenna Ortega is pleased with what she’s seen.
“We’re definitely leaning into a little more horror,” the actress teased when asked about the series’ second season on the 2023 Emmy’s red carpet. “Everything is bigger, it’s a lot more action-packed.”
According to Ortega, who was nominated for her work in the series’ first season (Abbott Elementary creator/star Quinta Brunson won), every episode “feels like a movie” — and though Wednesday’s narrative has evolved, the character “never really changes.”
Ortega, who suggested every episode “feels like a movie,” has seen her career skyrocket since Wednesday premiered in Nov. 2022. In that time, the 21-year-old star also caught flack for publicly disparaging the writing on her series.
“Everything that she does, everything that I had to play, did not make sense for her character at all,” she said of why she felt...

Each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.”

"Justice League Unlimited" is a pinnacle of superhero cartoons. Had its airing not intersected with my childhood, my fascination with comics probably wouldn't have blossomed the way it did.
The terrific final product wasn't a sign of the creators always working under ideal conditions, however. In the 2000s, Warner Bros. was quite particular about letting DC Comics characters appear in more than one show at a time, apparently out of concern that audiences would be confused by multiple versions of the same character -- hence the infamous "Bat-Embargo." 2004, the year that "Justice League Unlimited" began, also saw the premiere of "The Batman," a solo cartoon about, well, Batman, but set in a different continuity. Batman's villains and supporting cast were therefore off-limits to the "Justice League" team.
Gotham City wasn't the only corner of the DC Universe hit by this embargo. Aquaman and his associated characters were also made verboten...
