Any self-respecting Camila Cabello fan knows the 22-year-old singer has harbored a lifelong obsession with fairytale princesses. So when Cabello had the opportunity to play Cinderella in a Sony Pictures update of the classic story, due out in Feb. 2021, it was an experience she couldn’t pass up.
“It was one of those things that felt like God handcrafted it for me and was, like, ‘Here you go.'” Cabello tells Variety. “I just couldn’t say no. It’s honestly a dream for me. And also a little bit terrifying.”
For the role, which Cabello describes as “funny” and a “new, more empowered version of the story,” she faced her fear head-on. Says Cabello: “For my first acting classes, I was, like, ‘What the f– am I doing here? This is so scary.’ But my acting coach, Anthony Meindl, taught me it’s all about the act of surrender and ‘the art of listening,...

Outfest and the highly regarded Anthony Meindl’s Actor Workshop on Friday announced the launch of an initiative aimed at training trans and non-binary actors.
“With mainstream movies continuing to cast straight actors to play trans roles, it is clear that Hollywood is ignoring the message: trans roles should be portrayed by trans actors,” Outfest executive director Christopher Racster said in a statement. “This helps to ensure authentic depictions of trans folks reflective of their rich, nuanced lives.”
The effort, Racster said, is intended to provide free training to five trans or non-binary actors and help build a pipeline of talent. Hollywood in recent years has been under pressure to become more inclusive of trans artists. GLAAD and 5050by2020, a Time’s Up initiative, recently led a pledge drive calling on leading Hollywood production companies, talent agencies, and others to commit to more inclusive storytelling.

Anthony Meindl is quite the multihyphenate. He's an award-winning writer (whose first feature screenplay, "The Wonder Girls," was the grand-prize-winning feature screenplay at the Slamdance Film Festival in 2007), a director who just finished his first feature film, "Birds of a Feather," a producer, an actor, and the artistic director of Anthony Meindl's Actor Workshop in Los Angeles and New York. As a teacher, he is credited with launching the careers of actors such as Cory Monteith ("Glee"), Trevor Donovan and Ryan Rottman ("90210"), and Allison Miller ("Terra Nova"), while student Shailene Woodley was recently nominated for a Golden Globe Award for "The Descendants." Now he can add author to his resume with the release of his first book, "At Left Brain Turn Right: An Uncommon Path to Shutting Up Your Inner Critic, Giving Fear the Finger, and Having an Amazing Life."In class, Meindl often focuses on helping his students.

Anthony Meindl is among Los Angeles' most respected acting teachers. Born in Indiana, he subsequently resided in New York and London, and then moved to L.A. in 1998. He started teaching here at that point, beginning with six students. His teaching style has been praised by such noted actors as Olympia Dukakis, who said, "Tony's passionate commitment to the process of acting is insightful and practical."Back Stage: What are the key benefits you want your students to carry away from your scene study sessions?Anthony Meindl: I think the biggest insight and benefit is that actors realize that scene study isn't really about a scene. It's about all the things that come up for the actor while living the scene. "Scene study" is a misnomer. The truth about scene study is the truths you learn about who you are in all these different situations. That's scary and exhilarating,...

What’s keeping you from being fully expressed? What’s keeping us from being our best selves in all areas of our lives? When we expend so much energy trying to maintain control, micro-manage, focus on end results and worry about things that ultimately are insignificant, we lose our ability to fully create in the power of the moment.
You’ve got to stop caring how you think other people think of you. The truth is – they’re not thinking of you – because they’re thinking of themselves. Like all of us.
When I say, “care less,” I’m not asking you to stop caring about things that matter. I’m talking about giving up worrying about things that have to do with the ego: how you look, how you’re perceived, trying to maintain appearances, trying to show you have it all together.
Have you ever noticed that when...
