Johnathan McClain is an actor and writer whose diverse career spans the worlds of theatre, film, television, and publishing.
As an actor, Johnathan's extensive resumé includes a notable turn as Megan Draper's agent, Alan Silver, on the final season of AMC's critically acclaimed drama Mad Men. Johnathan was the lead of the TV Land comedy series, Retired at 35, starring alongside late Hollywood icons George Segal and Jessica Walter. He also had Series Regular roles on The Bad Girl's Guide starring Jenny McCarthy, and Jessica Simpson's sitcom pilot for ABC. Additional television work includes recurring roles on the CBS drama SEAL Team and Fox's long-running 24, as well as appearances on Grey's Anatomy, NCIS: Los Angeles, Trial and Error, The Exorcist, Scoundrels, Without a Trace, CSI, and many others. Film credits include the Academy Award nominated Far from Heaven, the recently released Walking With Herb (written by Mark Medoff and starring Edward James Olmos, Kathleen Quinlan, and George Lopez), as well as multiple independent features.
As a writer, Johnathan's feature film debut, The Outfit, co-written with Oscar winner Graham Moore, was produced by FilmNation and distributed by Focus Features in the Spring of 2022. Directed by Moore, the cast includes Mark Rylance, Zoey Deutch, Dylan O'Brien, Johnny Flynn and Simon Russell Beale. Johnathan maintains development of several other film and TV projects; one of which being a series based on the unexpected and surreal two-year adventure he had as the co-author of eight bestselling romance novels (which resulted in him becoming an Amazon top-100 ranked romance author for a time).
Johnathan is originally from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He began his professional acting career on stage in Chicago where he wrote and performed his critically acclaimed one-person show, Like It Is. On the heels of its critical and commercial success, the show moved to New York where Johnathan was compared to such visionary writer/actors as Eric Bogosian, John Leguizamo, and Anna Deavere Smith. He has also amassed numerous other New York, regional, and Los Angeles theatre credits.
Johnathan lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Laura.
