Exclusive: In a major shakeup at the entertainment publicity/marketing firm 42West, preeminent publicist Leslee Dart will shed the co-ceo title she has shared with Amanda Lundberg. Dart will take a newly created senior strategic advisor role at Dolphin Entertainment, which made 42West its first acquisition in the PR/marketing space in a $28 million deal in 2017. Lundberg will become sole CEO and run 42West day to day from its New York headquarters.
Dolphin subsequently acquired The Door and Viewpoint Creative, and most recently the music PR firm Shore Fire. Two more acquisitions in the space will be made this year, and Dart will take on a supervisory role in pulling those pieces together and making them compatible as Dolphin continues to grow under president Bill O’Dowd. Because the company is publicly traded, the principals were not specific on the title Dart will hold at Dolphin, but word began getting around...

42West parent company Dolphin Entertainment has expanded its marketing/PR footprint with the acquisition of The Door, a leading lifestyle and hospitality public relations, creative branding and marketing services agency hatched a decade ago by co-founders Lois Najarian O’Neill and Charlie Dougiello.
The two companies will operate separately, but Dolphin Entertainment CEO William O’Dowd said there is symmetry and opportunity between the new acquisition and the entertainment PR firm run by Leslee Dart, Amanda Lundberg and Allan Mayer. He pointed to a recent Observer article that ranked the pair as the third and fourth most powerful PR firms in the U.S. as reason to believe Dolphin has expanded in a compatible way.
The Door’s client list ranges from celebrity chefs like Rachael Ray to hotel groups like Viceroy Hotels and Resorts to restaurant chains such as Starr Restaurants to consumer brands such as Fao Schwarz. Najarian O’Neill,...

Portrayal of social networking website's history posts slightly disappointing takings but scores a hit with Oscar judges
David Fincher's Oscar-tipped tale of desire and betrayal during the founding years of Facebook, The Social Network, topped the Us box office charts at the weekend, but fell short of expectations with takings of $23m (£15m). Jesse Eisenberg stars in the film as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who has labelled the movie as fiction but avoided totally denouncing it in public. It also features British actor Andrew Garfield as Zuckerberg's one-time best friend and business partner Eduardo Savarin, with Justin Timberlake as Napster creator Sean Parker.
Critics have so far been almost unanimously positive, and the Hollywood Reporter said today that a screening for members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the body which decides the winners of the Oscars, had also produced a positive reaction.Demographic data from...

Who is winning the Mark Zuckerberg PR battle?
As Sony's "The Social Network," the unauthorized story of Zuckerberg and the origins of Facebook, hits theaters Friday, the answer might be both the studio and the press-shy billionaire.
Months before the film began screening, speculation was rampant in Hollywood and Silicon Valley about how Facebook and its founder would fight back against a heavily marketed film based on a controversial book that paints him in an unflattering light.
Zuckerberg chose not to hire a crisis PR team, instead employing a counterstrategy created by his company's internal corporate communications group and Outcast, its usual PR agency.
A decision was made that Zuckerberg, fearful of how his reaction might further fuel interest in the movie, would not publicly slam the film. Instead, Facebook put forward friends like Chris Hughes, a company co-founder who left in 2007 to join the Obama presidential campaign, to challenge...

He'll be back - but it is going to cost someone a lot of money.
This month the Terminator film franchise will be the subject of an auction described as a "once-in-a-decade" opportunity for studio bosses.
Early interest has been high, with sources close to the sale suggesting that the eventual price could top $100million (£61 million), according to the Press Association.
The rights to the film are being auctioned off by the Halcyon Company, the production firm behind this year's Terminator Salvation, which grossed $375million (£228 million) worldwide.
The franchise has grossed a total of $1.4 billion (£854 million) in box office receipts, with an additional $1.6billion (£976 million) from DVDs, video games and graphic novels.
The sale was prompted by Halycon's filing for bankruptcy protection earlier this year, which I reported on in August.
Allan Mayer, spokesman for Halcyon Company, said: "This is the only major film franchise that isn't already owned by a big studio.

Allan Mayer, former managing director of Sitrick and Company, is becoming a Los Angeles-based partner at the Dart Group, whose New York founding partners are Leslee Dart, Robert Garlock, Amanda Lundberg, and Cynthia Swartz. The Dart Group is changing its name to 42West. As head of the firm's L.A. office Mayer will establish a new strategic communications division to service the needs of the entertainment industry. Also leaving Sitrick to join Mayer in the new division is Kelly Mullens. The prospect of working with Dart and her colleagues was "irresistible," Mayer said. Since opening its doors just two years ago, the Dart Group has burgeoned in size, now employing some 36 staffers in offices in New York and L.A. Its clients include producers Brian Grazer and Scott Rudin and many top directors. Mayer worked closely with Dart, Grazer and Howard doing crisis PR on A Beautiful Mind and The Da Vinci Code.

Kangaroo Jack star Anthony Anderson has been arrested and charged with aggravated rape while shooting a movie. The 33-year-old actor was accused by an unidentified woman of luring her into a trailer on the Memphis, Tennessee, set of his latest film, Hustle And Flow, and sexually assaulting her with the film's assistant director, Wayne Witherspoon. Both men were charged yesterday, after being taken into custody by the Shelby County Sheriff's Department. The alleged incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the Shelby County Correctional Center, a penal farm on the outskirts of Memphis, where filming was under way for the movie. Sheriff's spokesman Steve Shular says a passer-by heard screams coming from the trailer and opened the door. Shular says, "She ran out nude." Both suspects were released yesterday evening after posting a $20,000 bond each. Allan Mayer, spokesman for married father-of-two Anderson, says, "(Anthony) absolutely denies the heinous charges. Anthony is a happily married family man who has never been accused of - no less involved in - anything remotely like this, and we are confident that when all the facts come out, he will be completely exonerated." Mayer says it's unclear whether Anderson will return to work on the movie, but adds he will likely remain in the Memphis area for the time being.

Troubled R'n'B star R. Kelly was arrested in Florida yesterday on additional child porn allegations. Authorities in Miami say they found 12 photos of a nude girl at the home of the singer, who is currently awaiting trial on child porn charges in Chicago. The Polk County Sheriff's office, with the assistance of Miami-Dade police, arrested the singer at the Grand Bay Hotel in Coconut Grove, where he had been staying. Kelly was in town to shoot a video for the remix of his latest single, Ignition. Authorities say the charges stem from the discovery of child porn images during a search of the singer's rented Davenport residence in June. That search was conducted during his initial arrest in Polk County on an Illinois fugitive warrant. Then two search warrants were executed at his home, and 12 digital images were found that depicted an underage female. Three images also depicted Kelly involved in sexual conduct with the female minor, say authorities. Kelly was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Facility before he posted the $12,000 bond - $1,000 per count. The singer's spokesperson Allan Mayer says, "At this point, it looks to us like a classic case of piling on, in which a local jurisdiction tries to make headlines by attaching itself to a celebrity case. As far as we can tell, the charges all relate to R Kelly's arrest last summer. In other words, there is nothing new here."...
