We still have a whole lot of Game Of Thrones left. Its final season may not even premiere until 2019, after which one of the four spin-off series HBO is developing will probably continue to slake our thirst for dragons and shit for many more years to come. (Also, someday George R. R. Martin may write some more books,…

When it comes to discussing ’60s British horror, most conversations usually begin and end with Hammer’s gothics and their sleazy derivatives. Mind you, it’s not hard to see why—the studio practically revived the genre in the UK during the late ’50s, and competitors would have to be fools to not want to ride their coattails, creating their own bloody (and occasionally brilliant) gothics chock-full of sex and violence. But the ’60s also saw the rise of a different, darker sub-genre—the modern psychological thriller, birthed from Alfred Hitchcock’s visual vocabulary and directors focused less on the supernatural and more on the depths of human cruelty and depravity. These thrillers are violent, sexual, and no stranger to controversy, and on today’s entry of the Crypt of Curiosities, we’ll be looking at three of the best and most noteworthy films.

Joe Martin’s Us And Them is less a dangerous class-warfare battle and more a steamy soapbox rant. It’s positioned as “a deadly game of chance,” but don’t expect some Saw-like torture chamber. Anti-establishment angst fuels a fire that rages in the name of social responsibility, through tirades that attack fat-cat bankers who “don’t understand” a working man’s struggle. You can see where Martin draws influence from Guy Ritchie (narrative choices) and Michael Haneke’s Funny Games, yet Us And Them‘s bark is worse than its bite. This is a human story about people who look for answers in all the wrong places, and the chaos that ensues. Blowhard, ill-conceived chaos that goes up or down in flames, depending on your personal outlook.

Team Coco isn’t making a move just yet.
Following a report by TheWrap that Conan O’Brien would shift to a weekly presence on late-night TV rather than a nightly one, TNT/TBS president Kevin Reilly said no change is in the works just yet.
“Conan remains an invaluable franchise, partner and producer for our TBS brand and we’ll be in business with him for a long time,” Reilly said in a statement. “As the media landscape continues to evolve, Conan will continue to lead the evolution of what a talk show will be in the digital age. At this time, we have no plans to change the format or frequency of his popular TBS show. In addition to Conan’s daily responsibilities to his talk show, we continue to have very ambitious plans that will further broaden and evolve our relationship with Conan.”

George R.R Martin may have developed a penchant for death and destruction whilst spinning out the brutal, politically-charged A Song of Ice and Fire series, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s gunning to conclude Game of Thrones in a fiery apocalypse. Indeed, the author is targeting a “bittersweet” finale, one that will purportedly bear semblance to that found in J.R.R. Tolkien’s seminal The Lord of the Rings.
Throughout the course of the acclaimed fantasy series, Martin has used Tolkien’s genre-defining masterclass as a tonal jumping off point, and TV audiences have seen glimpses of that all across HBO’s adaptation – Westeros’ long and bloody history, warring factions, and of course, dragons. Speaking in a recent interview with The Observer, the esteemed author cited the penultimate chapter in Tolkien’s Return of the King (The Scouring of the Shire) as the proverbial goal that he’s drawing inspiration from.

Hop aboard the cinema saucer, ’cause it’s time for another animated alien adventure. Let’s see, the last big cartoon with a human and space creature teamed-up to find home may have been Lilo & Stitch (or, perhaps it was the first big feature with that theme), so we’re probably due for another spin around the galaxy. And the whole “Earthers are odd”, gags have become a comedy staple, mostly on TV with Uncle Martin, Mork, Alf, and the “3rd Rock” gang. And there’s the whole Starman/Et movie legacy. Yes, this is a mix of comedy and a dash of drama, but the real drama may be behind the scenes with this film’s producer, DreamWorks Animation. After a couple of sequels and a TV adaptation, this is their first original feature work in two years (though it is based on a children’s’ book, “The True Meaning of Smekday...

Is Gwyneth Paltrow having second thoughts about her "conscious uncoupling"?
The 42-year-old Iron Man actress announced that she was separating from her husband Chris Martin this past March, but tells Harper's Bazaar UK that sometimes she has her doubts as to whether she made the right decision.
"We've made a lot of mistakes, and we've had good days and bad days, but I have to say, I'm proud of us for working through so much stuff together -- and not blaming and shaming," she says of her split from the Coldplay frontman. "Of course, there are times when I think it would have been better if we had stayed married, which is always what your children want. But we have been able to solidify this friendship, so that we're really close."

Where in the world has Steve Martin been lately? The celebrated comic actor’s last big screen role was in the ill-received birding comedy The Big Year way back in 2011, and the only project he’s taken on since has been animated caper Home, in which he lends his voice to an alien. Luckily, it appears that Martin may be making a comeback, with word that he’s in talks to star in Magic Camp for Disney.
The actor was already involved with the family comedy, having penned the most recent draft of the script with A.C.O.D. writer-director Stu Zicherman (currently a writer-producer on FX’s Cold War-era spy drama The Americans). The previous version of the script came from Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, the duo behind Diary of a Wimpy Kid and its sequel. The Meek Shall Inherit: Legrand’s Familial Conflict a Seething, Elegant Drama

Game of Thrones now has three seasons under its belt and work on the fourth is already under way. But this finale felt a little different than the ones preceding it. Since the HBO series was originally announced, there has been worry the show would be able to catch up to George R.R. Martin’s books series, A Song of Ice and Fire, before he can finish writing it. That worry has never been stronger than it is now. Season 3 adapted about two-thirds of the third book, A Storm of Swords, and Season 4 will likely wrap that book up and continue with the next books. This is where things get complicated and the timetable much smaller.
Books four and five present an interesting challenge for showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. For the most part, the plots of A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons play out concurrently,...

We are seven weeks out from the season three premiere of HBO's "Game of Thrones" and fans are growing impatient. Though there has been two 'teaser' trailers, both have been stand-alone visual effects driven promos.
There has been plenty of behind-the-scenes video blogs, but we still have yet to see any actual finished footage from the upcoming season. That is expected to change very soon. Before it does though, something else has leaked out.
Spoiler TV has posted the synopsis for the season three premiere episode. Check it out below:
Jon is brought before Mance Rayder, the King Beyond the Wall, while the Night’s Watch survivors retreat south. In King’s Landing, Tyrion asks for his reward, Littlefinger offers Sansa a way out, and Cersei hosts a dinner for the royal family. Arya runs into the Brotherhood Without Banners. Danerys sails into Slaver's Bay.

A Song of Ice and Fire creator George R.R. Martin has recently signed with HBO for a further two years, news that cements the idea of there being no end in sight for the network's superb adaptation.
With the forthcoming season three covering events from the first half of A Storm of Swords (the third book in Martin's planned seven-novel series), there's plenty of scope for seasons four, five, six, seven and beyond, should HBO choose to make them. Good news, we're sure you'll agree.
What's of interest about Martin's recent deal with HBO though, is its explicit reference to his developing and producing "new series projects for the network". Not a continuation mind, but new projects.

How glad am I that I didn’t start reading author George R.R. Martin’s “Game of Thrones” books (aka the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series) until HBO started airing the TV show adaptation? It meant I could pick up all five books and read them in quick succession. Though honestly, “quick” is not really the right word, because these books are not child’s play. The first book was the smallest volume at around 800 pages, but the previous four have all either scraped or surpassed the 1,000 pages mark. Yup, definitely not in-one-weekend reading material here, folks. So what’s Martin going to do now that the show is already plowing on ahead to Season 3 with an adaptation of “A Clash of Swords”, the third book in the 7-book series? After all, Martin may have planned out the series for 7 books to tell the entire story, but he...

In the past week of the media covering Trayvon Martin, Howard Kurtz observed that MSNBC and Fox News seemed to be acting in lieu of the prosecution and the defense, completely leaving the justice system by the wayside. Hosts on the liberal network are taking a much more aggressive line, especially in Lawrence O'Donnell's now-infamous interview with George Zimmerman acquaintance Joe Oliver, while the more conservative network has been more open to the idea that Martin may have done something to initiate an attack of self-defense.

There are plenty of movies that show what it’s like to be the parent of a missing child. Take movies like Ransom (1996) and Taken (2008), for example. These stories might be so common place now that we’ve become numb to them.
But what about a movie focusing on the kid who has been taken away? Stevan Mena’s Bereavement takes on the concept of growing up under the ever watchful eye of the serial killer captor, Graham Sutter (Bret Rickaby The Crazies 2010).
Martin Bristol (Spencer List Offspring, The Orphan Killer) is just like any other kid, except for the fact that he can’t feel pain. He requires an aid who checks him every hour for cuts, scrapes even broken bones; so when Martin’s mother looks outside to see an empty swing set she doesn’t just worry about his safety, she worries about him staying in one piece.

Father-son warlocks Jonas and Luka Martin may have "departed" Mystic Falls, but fans of "The Vampire Diaries" are about to meet another member of the family as casting news has come in for Greta Martin, who we already know is in the company of Klaus and heading to Mystic Falls.

A representative for Ricky Martin has denied reports his upcoming U.S. tour is in jeopardy due to poor ticket sales, insisting promoters are "happy" with the potential audience numbers. The "She Bangs" hitmaker is embarking on a tour across America later this year to support his comeback album "Musica + Alma + Sexo".
Tickets were made available earlier this month, but reports suggest sales have been poor, prompting claims Martin may be forced to axe some shows. But his rep has moved swiftly to dismiss the claims, telling the New York Post's gossip column Page Six, "The tickets only went on sale four days ago and the promoters are happy. No date is in any sort of jeopardy at this point."
Martin is set to kick off his tour in San Juan, Puerto Rico on March 25, and wrap up the shows in San Diego, California on May 8.

It's the bane of any celebrity couple's public existence: The near-constant barrage of tabloid stories proclaiming that one or both of the famous duo are cheating, about to file for divorce, have a wandering eye, are pregnant or refuse to have children.
In the case of Coldplay singer Chris Martin and actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who have two children together and have been married for seven years, allegations of marital strife have dogged them for years. And while neither have deemed it necessary to respond to the persistent drumbeat of break-up rumors, their silence and the rarity of paparazzi spotting them together has helped stoke the tabloid press speculation.
On Wednesday (September 1), Martin may have inadvertently (or perhaps not) done more than anyone to throw fuel on the fire by performing a new, unreleased Coldplay song called "Wedding Bells" at an Apple computers event announcing new iPods and a social networking site called Ping.
