Exclusive: Wiip has snapped up rights to Adamtine, a horror graphic novel by award-winner Hannah Berry, to develop for film.
Returning to his feature roots after exec producing HBO’s Emmy-winning miniseries Mare of Easttown, as well as its political drama White House Plumbers, Mark Roybal will produce alongside wiip’s Paul Lee and Nate Winslow. Berry will serve as an executive producer.
In Adamtine, four strangers on the last train home, all with their own connections to a serial killer, are stalked by a sneaking, shapeless evil with nowhere to run. It’s the second graphic novel from Berry and was published in 2012. The deal with wiip was brokered by Berry’s rep, Emma Topping, of Viv Loves Film.
In a statement on the acquisition, Berry shared that Mare of Easttown is one of her “favourite series of the last ten years,” and she therefore “could not have asked...

CAA has sold a majority stake in Wiip, the producer behind HBO’s Mare of Easttown and Apple’s Dickinson, to Korean company Jtbc Studios. It marks the first sale of an agency-backed studio after CAA and the other agencies agreed to end their standoff with the WGA and sell a majority interest in their content divisions.
CAA, which was previously the majority owner of wiip, will remain a minority shareholder in the Paul Lee-led company.
Deadline understands that CAA had been shopping the stake around a number of traditional U.S studios but there were no takers. It comes as others such as WME are still looking for a buyer for an 80% stake in Endeavor Content.
Private equity company Atwater Capital, which took a stake in wiip in 2020, will also sell its stake.

What We Do In the Shadows actor Matt Berry will revive his cult character, Steven Toast, after six years — and the comedy has been swooped up by the BBC after it originally aired on Channel 4.
BBC One and iPlayer have commissioned Objective Fiction to make six-part Toast Of Tinseltown (working title), which will spotlight eccentric and arrogant actor Toast as he attempts to become a movie star in Hollywood.
It follows three seasons of the show broadcasting on Channel 4 under the Toast Of London title. Berry, who co-writes the series with Arthur Mathews, won a BAFTA for his performance as Toast in 2015.
Berry said Toast would “very much approve” of the comedy’s move to the BBC, while Mathews added: “Hollywood is a brave new world for Toast. There will be triumphs and tribulations (but mostly tribulations – and indeed humiliations).”

Exclusive: Channel 4 has back-tracked on its decision to commission a second season of Victorian-era comedy crime caper Year Of The Rabbit after the coronavirus pandemic forced the British broadcaster into £150M ($205M) of content cuts.
Channel 4 renewed Matt Berry’s Year Of The Rabbit in February last year, funding the Objective Media Group (Omg) show alongside AMC-owned U.S. cable network IFC. But now, Omg is on the hunt for a new partner for the comedy.
“Year Of The Rabbit is a victim of the devastating effects of Covid,” Omg chief executive Layla Smith told Deadline. “IFC are very committed to the show, but we will need to find another partner — and we’re working on that.”
The show stars Berry as a detective in Victorian London, who fights crime alongside his hapless partner, played by Freddie Fox, and the country’s first female police officer, performed by Susan Wokoma.

Right now, good news often feels like gold dust, so hearing that Charlie Brooker will bring back his award-winning Wipe series for a special look at the state of things in lockdown is a bit like finding a freshwater lake after crawling through the desert on your hands and knees for a month, wailing “whyyyyy” the whole time. Perhaps Brooker is stood just at the water’s edge, wearing a crisp white toga. “Drink,” he gestures. Hoarsely, gratefully, we respond: “yes …yes.” Things have gotten weird in the first paragraph again.
Screenwipe has been missing from our screens since 2016, when Brooker started focusing much of his energy on Black Mirror, which has become one of Netflix’s most popular series. In this 30-minute lockdown special, tentatively called Antiviral Wipe, the writer has confirmed that he’ll also draw in regular contributors Philomena Cunk (Diane Morgan) and Barry Shitpeas (Al Campbell...

Alma’s Not Normal was created and written by Sophie Willan, who plays Alma, a wild-child woman trying to get her life back on track following a recent breakup.
It was piloted earlier this month and earned rave reviews, with many critics calling on BBC Two to commission a full six-part series. Willan said she has been using the coronavirus lockdown as an opportunity to develop ideas for the show.

“Black Mirror” creator Charlie Brooker is making a half-hour isolation special of his “Wipe” review series for the BBC, with the working title of “Charlie Brooker’s Antiviral Wipe.”
Before “Black Mirror,” Brooker rose to fame with the BBC “Wipe” review series, which began in 2006 with “Charlie Brooker’s Screenwipe,” and went on to include “Newswipe with Charlie Brooker,” “Charlie Brooker’s Gameswipe” and “Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe.” The last episode of his annual “Wipe” review ran in 2016.
Last year, Brooker said he was too busy working on Netflix series “Black Mirror” to focus on “Wipe,” but the lockdown has clearly freed up some of his time.
The BBC said Brooker will be taking “a typically sharp look at life in lockdown, in a show made during lockdown.” The program will air on channel BBC Two.

Comedy network IFC has acquired British cult comedy Toast of London, starring The It Crowd and Disenchantment’s Matt Berry.
The cable broadcaster has picked up all three seasons of the show, totalling 18 episodes, in a deal with All3Media International.
The series, which is produced by Objective Fiction, is set to launch in 2019. Episodes have previously been available via Netflix in the U.S.
Created by Arthur Mathews and Berry, the BAFTA award winning comedy stars Berry as Steven Toast, an eccentric, middle-aged actor with a sketchy past who spends more time dealing with his problems off stage than performing on it.
The show has been a cult hit on Channel 4 in the UK and has included guest appearances from the likes of Mad Men’s Jon Hamm and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme.

Are overnight ratings all they're cracked up to be? Toast of London star Matt Berry reckons not.
The actor told press including Digital Spy that his sitcom would never have survived if its success were judged solely on overnights.
"It isn't as strong an argument as it used to be, because people watch in their own time," Berry said backstage at last night's (May 10) House of Fraser BAFTA Television Awards.
"That works in our favour - because if Toast were brought back [based] on ratings, it would never be brought back. Hardly anyone watches it, on the night."
Berry was awarded the trophy for best Male Performance in a Comedy Programme last night, beating W1A's Hugh Bonneville, Rev's Tom Hollander and Mrs Brown's Boys star Brendan O'Carroll.

April 21, 1995 – would that be the day the ice age ended?
Well, no, you can't be that precise about the ice age. But it would be the day that Father Ted debuted on Channel 4.
It's hard to believe, but it's been 20 years since we first met Father Ted Crilly, Father Dougal McGuire, Father Jack Hackett and Mrs Doyle. We came to the Parochial House looking for a cup of tea and a Jaffa cake, and decided to stay longer than Father Stone.
Two decades on, and Graham Linehan and Arthur Matthews' sitcom is still as clever, fresh and fecking hilarious as it was back then. And it's not difficult to see why the show about three priests and their housekeeper trapped on Craggy Island has enjoyed such longevity, or to argue why it is the greatest TV comedy ever made.

Matt Berry chats to us about his voice work in the new Spongebob Squarepants movie, House Of Fools, music, and Toast Of London...

Father Ted creator Graham Linehan has spoken about the possibility of adapting the sitcom for the stage.
The writer told Radio Times that he believes a musical version of the show could be a success.
"I would never bring back the TV show, because of the risk you poison people's memories of the original," he insisted.
"But if you were to come up with a completely new format, I think it would be worth doing. I have this vision of a dance number, with spinning cardinals."
Although he admitted that co-creator Arthur Mathews is "not as convinced" by the idea, Linehan added: "I think it could work."
Linehan also spoke about the likelihood of the potential project referencing child sex scandals within the Catholic Church, saying: "The jokes would have to have a little bit more edge, because you just can't ignore this stuff."

Tucked away on Channel 4's late-night Monday schedule is Toast of London, a brilliantly absurd sitcom about a fading middle-age actor reduced to taking increasingly undesirable voiceover jobs and acting roles.
The brainchild of Matt Berry and Father Ted co-creator Arthur Matthews, Toast is a classic British sitcom character in the mould of David Brent, Alan Partridge and Basil Fawlty - the more his dignity gets shredded, the funnier it gets.
With the prestigious Rose d'Or prize under its belt, six nominations at this year's British Comedy Awards and a dedicated fanbase who flood social media with Toastisms, the surreal comedy show has momentum.
One recurring gag that's fast become a hallmark is the titular luvvie's voiceover sessions with Scramble Studios duo Danny Bear (Tim Downie) and Clem Fandango (Shazad Latif). The latter, a work experience boy who dishes out orders to the veteran thesp, has proven to be a potent comedy hand grenade.
The brainchild of Matt Berry and Father Ted co-creator Arthur Matthews, Toast is a classic British sitcom character in the mould of David Brent, Alan Partridge and Basil Fawlty - the more his dignity gets shredded, the funnier it gets.

Should you be watching Matt Berry comedy show Toast Of London on Channel 4? In the words of Stephen Toast... Yes!
Did you know that musical star Michael Ball has double the amount of blood in his body as that of the average human? It's what allows him to belt out those big notes.
If you watched Series 1 of Toast Of London then you'll already know that's true.
But if you didn't know and didn't watch, then that's entirely not your fault. After a strong pilot, Channel 4 took the first series of Matt Berry and Arthur Matthews' comedy about failing actor Steven Toast (Berry) and buried it in the late hour soil of Sunday nights, in a time slot so obscure you'd need a TV guide, compass, shovel, and remote to find it.
Fortunately the Rose D'Or committee still managed to unearth it on 4Od - no doubt...

Digital Spy presents The Best TV Shows You Might Have Missed - a celebration of television's underrated gems, undiscovered wonders and future hits.
Toast of London
The brainchild of Matt Berry and Father Ted co-creator Arthur Matthews, Toast of London largely flew under the radar when it aired on Channel 4 last autumn. With the second series soon upon us, there's no better time than now to take a look back at the funniest sitcom you've probably never heard of.
Berry, a veteran of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and The It Crowd, takes on the lead role of Steven Toast, a British thespian whose best days are long behind him. A vain and egotistical actor, he's at rock bottom thanks to a divorce (Amanda Donohue crops up as his ex-wife) and a starring role in a play that's so offensive the public want to see him dead.

Objective's chief on why the magician's Channel 4 special this week had to be different and the return of Peep Show
Andrew Newman, an executive producer on illusionist Derren Brown's latest Channel 4 show, in which he coaches pensioners to steal a Chapman brothers painting from an art exhibition, is no stranger to brazen stunts. Early in his TV career, Newman worked with Sacha Baron Cohen in his Ali G phase and Chris Morris on Brass Eye, so he should have a natural affinity with Brown's high concept pranks.
As chief executive of Objective, the independent producer behind Brown's TV output, Newman oversees a programming slate that mirrors his own background working on offbeat, sometimes spiky series. The likes of Peep Show, Fresh Meat and Toast of London – recommissioned for a second Channel 4 series last week – attract critical plaudits and industry awards, but not always large audiences.

The writer-director on silly sitcom Toast of London, Stuart Maconie's pop history and the force of Gravity
Writer and director Edgar Wright first joined forces with Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Jessica Hynes and Nira Park to create C4's cult sitcom Spaced in 1999. Continuing the collaboration, he co-wrote and directed the Cornetto film trilogy – Shaun of the Dead (2004), Hot Fuzz (2007) and The World's End (2013). In 2010, Wright made the action comedy Scott Pilgrim vs the World, before teaming up with Steven Moffat and Joe Cornish to write The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn. The World's End is out now as a download or on DVD and Blu-ray.

Few actors can count both a soap opera and an Oscar-winning movie among their credits, but Tim Downie is one of them - from Hollyoaks to The King's Speech to Skins to the new Paddington Bear movie, Downie's had quite the career. And he also sports a mighty fine moustache.
Digital Spy recently caught up with Tim and here's six things we learnt about Channel 4's new comedy series Toast of London, its star Matt Berry, Tim's facial hair, Paddington, new Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi and a cult kids' show that's apparently been wiped from existence...
1. You can expect "a lot of craziness" from the new series of Channel 4's Toast of London

Father Dougal has responded to calls for him to be the next Pope.
The Father Ted character has emerged from hiding on Craggy Island after 15 years to back the Facebook campaign calling for his appointment to lead the Roman Catholic Church.
> Father Ted's Greatest Ever Episodes - Friday Fiver
"This is great! Obviously very excited. Had no idea I was in the running, to be honest," said Dougal.
"If I am made Pope the first thing I will do is make Sunday a recognised day of worship. Hurray!"
The Facebook fan page has amassed over 16,000 likes since its creation last month.
The community calls for the controversial appointment "because nobody else could concentrate so hard on looking so holy than Father Dougal McGuire himself".
Pope Benedict XVI announced his retirement last month, becoming the first man to voluntarily leave the position in 600 years.
A total of 115 cardinal-electors have today...

The Pope’s funny hat finds itself between Popes at present. It seems a rather an appropriate time to celebrate the three greatest gifts the Catholic Church have given mankind: Father Jack, Father Dougal and Father Ted. This week all three delightful series of Father Ted have been released individually – face-lifted with charming illustrations by renowned cartoonist Tony Millionaire – so that we may relive the magic all over again.
Father Ted is a show I remember fondly so it was gratifying to go back and find it every bit as good as I remembered. For those who have never had the pleasure (for shame!), Father Ted documents the misadventures of three Catholic priests sharing a small parochial house with their housekeeper on a remote outcrop of rock off the west coast of Ireland. Father Ted Crilly (Dermot Morgan), the show’s antihero, is an amiable blunderer. Father Jack Hackett (Frank Kelly...

In a time when gross-out comedies are the safe option for most writers Graham Linehan insists on creating what he calls 'Inclusive Comedy'. Iftn spoke with the man who has brought us the three best known members of the Irish parochial community to see what audiences can expect from the upcoming 'Father Ted' documentary, his various ways of writing sitcoms and what his favourite 'Father Ted' episode is. Graham has worked as a writer and director on series such as 'The It Crowd', 'Black Books' and 'Father Ted'. He has furthermore written and directed for sketch shows like 'Big Train', 'Little Britain', 'Jam' and 'The Fast Show'. The Ifta and BAFTA winner has come from his London base across the Irish Sea to take part in a Hat Trick documentary that will be shown on Channel 4 as part...

With Ardal O'Hanlon and Arthur Matthews teaming up for their biggest project yet since the heydays of 'Fr. Ted', Iftn caught up with the pair to discuss, with Ardal, appearing on the big screen in his first cinematic lead, and with Arthur, the inspiration for a script based on building a famine theme park. Sitting opposite the pair in the elegant Dylan Hotel in the leafy Dublin suburbs, as an outsider I can instantly see that this duo have a deep bond and are extremely comfortable in each others company, with the type of friendly ease that develops from knowing someone for many years. Greeting me with the typical Irish handshake, I am instantly drawn into the jovial banter between the two. Many years on from his role as Fr. Dougal McGuire in 'Fr Ted', Ardal O'Hanlon is funny, sincere and very down to earth, whilst Arthur Matthews' comedically gifted personality in reality reflects,...

I love Ardal O'Hanlon, his performance as Dougal in the sitcom 'Father Ted', is one of the best things about 90's, UK comedy. I love Ewan Bremner, his performance in Trainspotting as the junkie, Spud, is one of the best things about 90's, UK cinema. Why then would both actors agree to star in something that feels like the aborted pilot of the worlds most depressing buddy-comedy?
Myles (O'Hanlon) and Austin (Bremner) are best friends, who agree to work on Ireland's first, and only, famine themed adventure park. It's being run by a crooked businessman, who in turn is being funded by an eccentric, video-art obsessed, middle-aged vamp, who takes every opportunity to flirt with both him, and the two lads. They share a tin hut, in which a lot of the film is set,...
