Warner Bros Discovery left Spain out of its clampdown on European original programs for HBO Max, and has now doubled down on the country by ordering a soccer comedy there.
Production is underway in Madrid on Playing Dirty (Monos con Pistola) The seven-part series comes from Jorge Valdano Sáenz and Pablo Tébar and is based on an idea from Carolina Bang and Álex de la Iglesia, whose drama 30 Coins is one HBO Max Europe’s most high-profile originals. The series is produced by Bang and de la Iglesia’s Pokeepsie Films, which is part of Banijay Iberia.

British distributor Eureka! Entertainment has announced the launch of Montage Pictures, a new world cinema sub-label focusing on contemporary works by new and upcoming filmmakers from around the world. Five titles have been announced so far - Kills on Wheels (2016, Attila Till, Hungary), Strangled (2016, Árpád Sopsits, Hungary), Shirley: Visions of Reality (2013, Gustav Deutsch, Austria), Rescue Under Fire [Zona Hostil] (2017, Adolfo Martínez Pérez, Spain) and Suntan (2016, Argyris Papadimitropoulos, Greece), which recently enjoyed a theatrical run in the UK and will be the label’s debut release, in a dual format (Blu-ray & DVD) edition on 4 September 2017. A new trailer for Zona Hostil (aka Rescue Under Fire) is a reminder that not all military heroes come from Hollywood. Heading for release in its native Spain on March 10, Zona Hostil is based on events that took place in Afghanistan in August 2012, revolving around military personnel in need of rescue during a time of warfare. Ariadna Gil stars as a medical officer with the Spanish army; she arrives by helicopter and then becomes trapped in a very bad situation. Raul Merida, Robert Alamo, and Antonio Garrido also star. Adolfo Martinez Perez directed.
