Thurgood Marshall was born on July 2, 1908 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He was married to Cissy Marshall and Vivien Burey. He died on January 24, 1993 in Bethesda, Maryland, USA.
His first name was originally Thoroughgood, but in his early years of
school, he hated spelling it out. When he was in the second or third
grade, he got his mother to legally shorten it to Thurgood.
He had 2 sons.
In 1967, he became the first black American ever to be named to a seat
on the U.S. Supreme Court, serving from 1967-1991.
