Character actor and singer of songs in children's programmes and
variety who first broadcast in 1942
Began his career on the Shakespearean stage at Stratford-on-Avon in
1940 and joined the BBC Drama Repertory Company a few years
later.
Primarily an actor on stage and radio, he sometimes served as a stage
director and portrayed Abraham Lincoln in many shows and in an episode
of "Doctor Who" in 1965.
Also a drama coach from the 1960s until failing eyesight and overall
health encouraged his retirement.
