A review for a movie not on video disc. CineSavant bears down hard on a now-obscure UK thriller that proves a crossroads for several key themes of modern terror: Nazis, bacteriological warfare and paranoid conspiracies. ‘007’– associated writer Jack Whittingham scripted a tale that connects old-school espionage to visionary super-crimes against humanity, the thriller genre of ‘The Unthinkable.’ Who’s the threat? An innocuous little doctor with a horrendous secret background and a somewhat preposterous ability to go undetected as he kills to assume and protect a new identity. The techno-chiller was released in 1948 yet seems screamingly relevant now.

Yet another puzzle picture, that came out on DVD back with the first wave of Wac films in 2010. An expensive romance with Albert Finney and Yvette Mimieux, it was filmed in Europe, co-written by Ray Bradbury and bears the music of Michel Legrand, including an exceedingly well known pop song. Yet it sat on a shelf for three years, only to make a humiliating world debut on TV — on CBS’s Late Nite Movie. It was clearly one of those Productions From Hell, where nothing went right.

Adele is rumored to be taking up the role of Dusty Springfield in an upcoming biopic, which is rumored to have Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga involved.
When I visited Australia, I found it to be one of the most welcoming environments I’ve ever been. Everyone was friendly (some were super-friendly). Ambassador John Berry isn’t getting the same welcome, with Tasmanian politician Peter Madden saying that Berry’s use of spouse in reference to his husband is “a clear and deliberate contravention of Aus law.” He’s calling for Berry’s resignation.
Dartmouth College (my first choice for college, and the only school that I wasn’t accepted to, breaking my heart) has announced plans for a $3.6 million affinity house called the Triangle House, for Lgbtia students to live and host events for the community.

Alec Guinness: Before Obi-Wan Kenobi, there were the eight D’Ascoyne family members (photo: Alec Guiness, Dennis Price in ‘Kind Hearts and Coronets’) (See previous post: “Alec Guinness Movies: Pre-Star Wars Career.”) TCM won’t be showing The Bridge on the River Kwai on Alec Guinness day, though obviously not because the cable network programmers believe that one four-hour David Lean epic per day should be enough. After all, prior to Lawrence of Arabia TCM will be presenting the three-and-a-half-hour-long Doctor Zhivago (1965), a great-looking but never-ending romantic drama in which Guinness — quite poorly — plays a Kgb official. He’s slightly less miscast as a mere Englishman — one much too young for the then 32-year-old actor — in Lean’s Great Expectations (1946), a movie that fully belongs to boy-loving (in a chaste, fatherly manner) fugitive Finlay Currie. And finally, make sure to watch Robert Hamer’s dark comedy Kind Hearts and Coronets...

A marketing consultant is going on a tour of the eastern seaboard in an ice cream truck to support gay marriage.
The Ice Cream Truck of Love will start its journey in Sydney before heading north to Queensland, giving out free ice cream and pushing the marriage equality message.
The truck is being driven by Adrian Fernand, of marketing and digital strategy consultancy I Do Believe I Came With A Hat, in response to controversial politician Peter Madden’s anti-gay rights protest truck tour last month.
Fernand told Mumbrella: “Should Mr Madden wish to join us for an ice cream, we’d happily offer him one and have one of our trained homosexuals demonstrate just how normal we really are. And perhaps we’d advise him on how to find a better fitting suit.”

Amidst the new outfits swishing down runways at this year's London Fashion Week was a different kind of fashion launch: The British non-profit named Forum for the Future released its sustainability trend report for the industry. But the report, named Fashion Futures 2025, is no endless stack of statistics, like so many other trend reports that seem like they were written to make your eyes glaze over. This innovative toolkit includes a range of free materials, from a workshop guide to entertaining animation, that its creators hope will help the report's message reach a wider audience.
"We do futures work because we think it's a great way to discuss sustainability and engage organizations," says Peter Madden, chief executive for Forum for the Future. He noted that especially for such a universal industry the impact could be exponential--a major shift in the fashion world could be one of the biggest factors in...
