Rupert Everett landed in Turin, Italy, on Thursday to collect the Star of the Mole, the special award given by the National Cinema Museum to personalities who have left an indelible mark on the world of cinema and society. The award — a pink star — is presented during the Lovers Film Festival, Europe’s oldest gay festival (this is its 39th edition), directed by Vladimir Luxuria, who says that “Rupert Everett was one of the first international stars to come out and fight for civil rights.”
In accepting the honor, Everett joins a list of previous honorees that includes the likes of Oliver Stone, Tim Burton, Malcolm McDowell, Monica Bellucci and many others.
The British actor, who turns 65 on May 29, came out publicly in 1989, five years after he made an indelible impression as a double agent in Marek Kanievska’s drama Another Country. The film was an adaptation of Julien Mitchell...

Italy’s National Cinema Museum On Why They Gave Kevin Spacey His First Public Platform In Five Years
Exclusive: Italy’s National Cinema Museum in the northern Italian city of Turin is one of the country’s most popular museums welcoming more than 600,000 visitors in 2022.
The institution made international headlines this week when it honored Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey with a lifetime achievement award and a masterclass.
The event marked Spacey’s first big public appearance since his career was put on ice in 2017 following a series of sexual misconduct allegations against him.
Monday’s celebration of the actor raised eyebrows in the U.S. and the U.K., where the Oscar-winner will go on trial in June on 12 sexual assault charges, to which he has pleaded not guilty, but was largely viewed as a success in Italy.
Enthusiastic fans flocked to the awards ceremony and masterclass, an accompanying special screening of American Beauty was sold-out, and there was barely a whiff of controversy around the politics of his visit in Italian media.

After coming under fire in Italian media for accusing Harvey Weinstein of rape, Asia Argento is returning to Italian TV as a judge on “The X Factor,” which will air on pay-tv service Sky Italia this fall.
FremantleMedia Italy, which is producing the show for Sky, has announced that Argento will join the “X Factor” Italy judging lineup of rapper Fedez, recording industry executive Mara Maionchi, local rocker and record producer Manuel Agnelli, as well as host Alessandro Cattelan. Besides being an actress and director, Argento has had a music industry career as a singer and disc jockey.
“We are thrilled to welcome Asia to the ‘X Factor’ family where we are sure that the contribution of her musical culture and personality will be of great importance,” Gabriele Immirzi, COO of FremantleMedia Italy, said in a statement.

First look at Warehouse 13, Scott Lively defends Ugandan law, the bunny apocalypse Buffy warned us about
Teen Wolf might just be the most shippable show on television. Possibly in television history. Sure, we all know about Sterek, Sciassic, and Stydia, but when I read this Buzzfeed list of all the ships there were some– like Kerek– that I’d never considered.
As Ugandan President Museveni prepares to sign the anti-homosexuality bill into law, he’s now pushing for a constitutional amendment that would ban bail for rapists and homosexuals. He’s also recently said that he’s willing to keep Uganda poor by giving up international aid to criminalize homosexuality.
VH1 is launching a show called Naked Dating, which will have one man and one woman who will each date two naked suitors (this seems to allow for gay dates), in the buff. The idea is the show “stripped...

24 % of NFL players ashamed of their peen, homophobic communities lead to early deaths
Andrew Rannells returned to Girls this week, and while he did get to make up with Hannah, he came with some baggage in terms of a bad boyfriend. “I’m very happy that he’s trying to make up with Hannah and Marnie, but it was really hard to shoot those scenes with Danny Strong because it’s so painful to be in that relationship that is a disaster and that you know is compromising yourself and where you would like to be versus where you are. So that was tough — that’s a tough place for Elijah to land, initially. That said, Danny Strong could not have been a better, more hilarious onscreen boyfriend. But that relationship Elijah’s having right now is a little tough.” Also, I think he’s now a spokesman for J.

We’re embarking on a bit of an experiment with Meme beginning today. The format hasn’t changed much since I started writing this column three years ago– one giant post with snippets of information for you about pop culture, politics, my fear of cats (and why you too should fear them), cute animal stories, and the occasional Nsfw tidbit that I was afraid to print anywhere else.
This week we’re going to try breaking this unweildy behemoth up a bit, literally. In addition to a (shorter) grab bag morning post you’ll be getting several stories each day tagged as “Meme” — each as a standalone post.
The benefits to readers, I think, are we can be much more timely with news, provide more context when required, be more searchable, and allow you to share, say, a call to action about a protest with your mother, who may be gay supportive,...
