With creator Sam Levinson still working on scripts for the upcoming third season of HBO’s Euphoria, filming plans have been temporarily put on hold, with the cast given permission to take other acting jobs in the interim.
“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” the network said in a statement to Deadline. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”
According to sources, there had been no firm production start date for Season 3 but filming was expected to begin within the next couple of months.

Colman Domingo explains why Euphoria Season 3 has been delayed, with the HBO show last airing in February 2022.
In a new interview, Domingo opened up about why the series that stars Zendaya has been pushed back and said it had to do with creator Sam Levinson adjusting the story to reflect the real world.
“[Sam is] a person who writes and rewrites and writes and rewrites again, because I think he’s wrestling with what’s important,” Domingo told GQ in an interview recently. “He’s responding immediately to what the ills of the world are. I know that the one thing I can tell you is that he’s very much interested in the existential question of who we are right now. Our souls. That’s what he wants to figure out with season three.”

Euphoria fans are going to have to wait a little longer for the third season of the teen drama.
HBO chief Casey Bloys said Thursday at a presentation in New York City that the Sam Levinson drama won’t return until 2025. The same news was shared about the return of The Last of Us.
In an August interview with Elle, Levinson described Season 3 as a “film noir” and teased that Zendaya‘s character of a recovering addict would “explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.”
Euphoria is set in the fictional town of East Highland, California, who seek hope while balancing the strains of love, loss, and addiction. The series is based on an Israeli show of the same name created by Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin.
The third season of the series has been delayed and the forthcoming season will inevitably have some major changes.

Euphoria executive producer Ron Leshem flew into Spain this week and recalled how Hollywood had initially turned down the HBO hit over concerns about teenage lead characters.
In a panel at Madrid’s Iberseries & Platino Industria (Ipi) today focused on content for Gen Z, Leshem said both Euphoria and the Duffer Brothers’ Stranger Things hit the same roadblock, as networks initially fretted over the idea of teenagers leading a series that wasn’t specifically a teen drama.
“Everyone told us we needed to be more like Skins,” he said, referencing the influential British drama from Channel 4 that set Nicholas Hoult, Kaya Scodelario, Dev Patel, Joe Dempsie and Hannah Murray on the road to stardom.
“We didn’t want to do Skins. We wanted to stand out and do something different,” said Leshem, who eventually sold Euphoria to HBO alongside co-creator Sam Levinson. “Artistically, we wanted to do Trainspotting meets...

Less than a week after Euphoria’s dramatic Season 2 finale, HBO is addressing claims about a toxic and unsafe workplace environment on the set of the Zendaya-led drama.
Earlier in February The Daily Beast published a report that detailed the inner workings of Euphoria season 2, including alleged 15 to 17 work days, “hellish” night shoots and more. The Daily Beast also reported that background actors made complaints to SAG-AFTRA over failure “to provide them meals on time and refusing to let people use the bathroom,” among other allegations of a toxic production.”
The premium network shared the following statement in response to the allegations of SAG-AFTRA violations:
“The well-being of cast and crew on our productions is always a top priority. The production was in full compliance with all safety guidelines and guild protocols. It’s not uncommon for drama series to have complex shoots, and Covid protocols add an additional layer.

“Euphoria” hit another series high with Episode 6 of its second season on Sunday, drawing 5.1 million viewers across HBO and HBO Max, a 20% increase from last week and up 45% from the season average. That number was reached despite the HBO drama airing opposite Super Bowl Lvi on NBC.
As Variety previously exclusively reported, “Euphoria’s” Season 2 per-episode-viewership average was already up nearly 100% from its first season after airing just its first four episodes.
Per HBO, on Sunday, “‘Euphoria’ ranked as the No. 1 title on HBO Max in the U.S. for the fifth week in a row and the top series globally (including HBO Max viewership in LatAm and Europe.) ‘Euphoria’ was the No. 1 most social and No. 1 most talked about broadcast when excluding the Super Bowl. Episode 1 is now tracking at 16.7 million viewers across platforms, just over 2.5x the average audience of Season 1 (6.6 million viewers per episode).”

“Euphoria” fans have never, ever been happier.
Fans of the trippy, Zendaya-led teen drama will be able to chase the same high after Season 2 because the scandalous and visually sensational Sam Levinson series will return for a third season.
The Emmy-winning high school show was a shoo-in for a junior year renewal. Season 2’s premiere episode on Jan. 9 has garnered 14 million total viewers across HBO and HBO Max to date. That is close to an increase of 100% from the 6.6 million average audience size that was drawn by Season 1’s episodes during its summer 2019 runtime. In addition, the Season 2 premiere was the No. 1 most social premium cable episode since the “Game of Thrones” finale in May 2019.

The “Euphoria” Season 2 premiere drew 2.4 million viewers across HBO and HBO Max, a series high for the Zendaya-led drama, according to WarnerMedia.
The “Euphoria” premiere marked “the strongest digital premiere night performance for any episode of an HBO series since HBO Max launch and a series-record more than double the Season 1 premiere.”
HBO also stated that digital viewing had an uptick more than nine times higher than the Season 1 premiere and nearly four times higher than the Season 1 finale. The Season 2 premiere also debuted to a viewership nearly 10 times higher than both special “Euphoria” episodes that debuted last winter.
“Euphoria” returned Sunday after a lengthy hiatus following its August 2019 first-season finale, a wait that was broken up a bit by the release of those two standalone specials that were taped with limited cast and crew amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to WarnerMedia, the “Euphoria” Season 2 premiere was the No.

It's been a minute, but Euphoria Season 2 is almost on the air.
HBO on Monday dropped the full-length trailer for the new season, which will debut Sunday, January 9 at 9 p.m.
Zendaya is set to headline the second season, and the key players also include Hunter Schafer, Nika King, Eric Dane, Angus Cloud, and Jacob Elordi.
Algee Smith, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira, Maude Apatow, Javon Walton, Dominic Fike, Storm Reid, and Austin Abrams also star.
The trailer teases a dark turn for Rue as she wheels a suitcase around for much of the trailer, only to find her in some more harrowing scenes.
It looks like Rue could be selling drugs, but we can't confirm until we lay eyes on the finished product.
At the very least, she's making some bad decisions that look to come back and haunt her.

It's been a long time since we've had a fresh installment of Euphoria.
The award-winning Zendaya-led drama series first premiered in the summer of 2019.
It landed a quick renewal because it was a big hit with younger viewers HBO was trying to capture.
Unfortunately, the pandemic meant that production on the new season was scuppered, but HBO opted to schedule two specials; one in December 2020, and another in January 2021.
These episodes did not advance the stories of anyone aside from Rue and Jules, so fans will need to wait until 2022 to catch up with the rest of the characters.
The series is currently set to return on Sunday, January 9, according to Zendaya.
Production on the second season kicked off in April, so it's likely the season will air weekly without a hiatus in the middle.
