Abdelhaï Laraki tackles sensitive themes in critically-acclaimed and audience pleasing works. Graduated at Louis Lumière and Sorbonne with Jean Rouch, he belongs to the 90's new wave of Moroccan filmmakers that emerged with a new narrative. His cinema tells political repression 'Mona Saber', power of money 'Parfum de Mer', sexual frustration in 'Love in the Medina', which is at the heart of debates on 'Art propre' during the Arab spring. His works received international recognition (Youssef Chahine prize, Dubaï, Cinemed, Fespaco, Rome, Tallinn). His new feature 'Fez Summer 55' pays a tribute to the women and men of Morocco who fought for independence. A common thread in his films is a reflection on the relationship of human with history, power and religion.
