After 1991’s The Fisher King proved to be a relatively easy production and comfortably made its budget back, Terry Gilliam decided to work from somebody else's script again for his next movie, having abandoned an adaptation of A Tale Of Two Cities. The initial inspiration for Twelve Monkeys came from 1962's La Jetée, which resulted in a pitch to Universal Studios by Robert Kosberg (a producer on Commando and Deep Blue Sea) after gaining permission from the La Jetée's director Chris Marker.
Gilliam came on board at the request of producer Charles Roven, agreeing to do the film because of the script and the fact that he saw the film as being conceptually similar to Brazil. For Twelve Monkeys, though, Universal was willing to...

While many are still wondering if Mel Gibson's long planned Judah Maccabee biopic will go ahead at Warners, someone else has already begun work on a rival project says Risky Biz Blog.
Producer Bruce Nash ("Modern Marvels") is assembling his own adaptation of the Hanukkah origin story. Said project could either be a feature or mini-series, it's undetermined as of now.
Both films would chronicle the successful rebellion, led by Maccabee, that liberated the Second Temple in Jerusalem from the Greek occupier Antiochus and the institution of Hanukkah to celebrate the victory.
While Gibson's version is still in development and has already scored comments from Jewish leaders not happy with the idea, Nash's project already has a finished script by Scott Abbott ("Introducing Dorothy Dandridge").
Nash, Maura Dunbar and Bob Kosberg are producing.

Cory Monteith has reportedly been involved in a feud with "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy. The Finn Hudson depicter was said to be in danger of being kicked out of the show after making a blatant claim that the cast are overworked and underpaid. However, a representative for the actor has spoken up to slam the issue.
Speaking to New York Post's Page Six, the rep claimed, "For the record, [this] is completely fabricated, I would imagine the result of lingering rumors from last month but not based in truth whatsoever. Cory is back on set and very happy to be there." A spokesman from the hit series also went on pouring cold water by adding that "there was no truth to the story."

Fans of animation director Brendon Small are familiar with his series Home Movies, but don't mistake this new film with the same title for one that has anything to do with the animated series. (Or with Brian DePalma's 1980 film, either.) This new Home Movies is something different: a supernatural family comedy. And it is possibly something pretty cool, as the writer is Tom McCarthy, who has scored a lot of favor writing and directing The Station Agent, The Visitor and Win Win. (He also worked on the story for Pixar's Up.) THR [1] reports on the deal and says the film is about "a man who is able to revisit certain moments in his life through his home movies and change things." (Maybe he watches Adam Sandler's Click for inspiration.) The idea came from within DreamWorks; Jared Stern was the first writer, and Shawn Levy, Bruce Nash and Robert Kosberg are producing.

After writing/directing such excellent indie features as The Station Agent, The Visitor, and Win Win, Tom McCarthy is returning to the family film world with a new project. You may know man who also dabbles in acting (most notably in The Wire), also had a hand in another children’s film, Pixar‘s Up. Working on the 2009 hit for three months, he created our lead character’s sidekick Russell the Wilderness Explorer, and now he is extending his knowledge in the arena, to a DreamWorks project.
THR reports the has been hired to write a supernatural family comedy titled Home Movies. It doesn’t look like it has any correlation with the Adult Swim show, as it centers on a “man who is able to revisit certain moments in his life through his home movies and change things.” DreamWorks crafted the idea with the original writer, Jared Stern. Fox 2000 has just bought the rights for an untitled film for Glee star Cory Monteith. Not much is known at this time aside from the project being described as a "workplace" comedy. Monteith will star and produce along with Bruce Nash and Robert Kosberg.
Michael Herbert, an intern at Nash Entertainment, came up with the idea. Monteith just finished filming Monte Carlo for Fox 2000 directed by Tom Bezucha starring alongside Leighton Meester and Selena Gomez.
I am not a huge fan of Glee, but my wife sure is and I have a feeling that all of the stars of the show are working on making the jump to future projects. Especially after the show's creator, Ryan Murphy, announced this week that he plans on replacing each of the stars as they "graduate" from high school.
What are your thoughts of this news?...

This Wizard of Oz sequel was first announced in 2002 with a script by hot shot Zach Helm (who has become known as the mainstream version of Charlie Kaufman, with Stranger Than Fiction and Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium) and with Barrymore originally set to star. The project has been in development since 1999, with producer Robert Kosberg (12 Monkeys). According to EW's 2002 report: In ''Surrender Dorothy,'' Barrymore would play an updated version of the heroine of the L. Frank Baum novels and the 1939 movie. Kosberg described the premise a couple years ago to writers'-clearinghouse website AbsoluteWrite.com. While Dorothy appeared to have dispatched the Wicked Witch by melting her with a bucket of water, Kosberg said, ''What if the Witch didn't die? What if it was all an act? And now...

Katherine Heigl, who already has navigated the transition from television to film, is ready to embark on a new role as producer.
Heigl and her manager and mother, Nancy Heigl, have formed a production shingle and set up an untitled action-comedy at Fox 2000 that also will serve as an acting vehicle for the actress. Spyglass also is on board to produce the project, whose plot is being kept confidential.
An Emmy nominee this year for "Grey's Anatomy", the younger Heigl became a bona fide film star with Universal Pictures' "Knocked Up", which has grossed more than $145 million domestically. But even before the film's release in June, she had been looking to get into producing, hoping to craft a project and work with writers.
That's when Bob Kosberg and David Simon, former writing partners, entered the picture. One night about a year ago, the two were tossing around ideas when Simon threw out a premise for an action comedy that caught Kosberg's attention.
