Joining the writers room during the fifth season of Gilmore Girls required sitting down with a pen and paper to take notes on all the previous storylines and “lots of coffee,” or so writer Stan Zimmerman reflects in The Girls: From Golden to Gilmore.
In his memoir, to be published by Indigo River Publishing on Feb. 13, Zimmerman chronicles his time working on the series, as well as his journey to finding success as a writer, producer, director and playwright, working on such shows as The Golden Girls and Roseanne. Featuring journal entries throughout, The Girls also details Zimmerman’s relationships with varied stars, including Lily Tomlin, Sandra Bernhard, Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel and the Golden Girls cast.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was once the most progressive show on television, so how is it possible that someone with a long history of mistreating women could create a long-standing feminist masterpiece? Series creator Joss Whedon was once at the top of the world of superhero fans and comic book nerds, many of whom fell in love with his beautiful blonde avatar, Buffy, a demon-fighting highschooler with superhuman strength and agility. The show's heroine was a uniquely powerful depiction of a ditzy Valley girl, turning the then-contemporary damsel-in-distress archetype on its head. But we've since learned that, behind the scenes, Whedon was doing everything he could to make the women of the show feel powerless.
Luckily, the newest entry into the franchise, "Slayers: A Buffyverse Story," gives fans a chance to reimagine some of their favorite "Buffy" characters through...

Written by Ayelet Waldman, The Advocate centers on a former doctor who has found her calling as a medical advocate, where she works on behalf of patients and their loved ones, solving medical crises and mysteries, and guaranteeing people the care they deserve. CBS TV Studios and Carol Mendelsohn Prods produce, with Waldman, repped by the Rwsg Literary Agency, exec producing alongside Mendelsohn, Julie Weitz and Smith. This marks Wme-repped Carol Mendelsohn Prods.’ third sale this season, along with a 1960s Surf Project at the CW penned by Rebecca Sinclair, and Law Man written by Mark Gibson and Philip Halprin for NBC. NBC, the long-time home of the Law & Order franchise, has put in development another legal drama with “law” in the title. Law Man, from CBS TV Studios and studio-based Carol Mendelsohn Prods (The Defenders), is inspired by Shon Hopwood’s memoir and chronicles the journey of a small-town basketball star who goes from young bank robber to federal prison inmate, during which time he became the greatest jailhouse lawyer in American history. He went on to join the D.C. District Attorneys Investigative Unit where his life experience gives him insight into identifying the guilty from the innocent, as he struggles to fit back into the world that left him behind. Mark Gibson and Philip Halprin (They Call Me Cuervo) wrote and are executive producing alongside Carol Mendelsohn Prods’ Carol Mendelsohn, showrunner of the venerable CSI series, and Julie Weitz, while Hopwood serves as consultant. Malibu, California. Home to such important historical events as that one time it was really sunny and lots of people went to the beach, and that time some guy on a surfboard went a really long time without falling down. Such vital, spellbinding moments from the distant past will now be brought to life thanks to the magic of television, our link to the past. First off is an as-yet-untitled "darkly comedic drama" from former 90210 showrunner Rebecca Sinclair, set in Malibu in 1961, at the beginnings of California surf culture. Exclusive: Former 90210 showrunner Rebecca Sinclair is back at The CW with a new hourlong drama project set in Los Angeles. Sinclair has teamed with Carol Mendelsohn Prods (The Defenders) for a period drama set in 1961 Malibu at the onset of the Southern California surf culture as well as the wave of social change that would transform America. CBS TV Studios, where Cmp is under a deal, will produce. Written, executive produced and run by Sinclair, the untitled darkly comedic drama explores the lives of a motley crew of Malibu surfers — each an outsider in their own way — who had found a community of kindred spirits. The show will dive beneath the idyllic surface of beach culture, using historic events — from the civil rights and women’s rights movements to the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam — to give the project a specificity. “We wanted to tell a different kind of story about the ’60s,...

Freaks and Geeks Episode 10 ‘The Diary’
Written by Rebecca Kirshner (Teleplay), Judd Apatow & Rebecca Kirshner (Story)
Directed by Ken Olin
Aired 1/31/2000 on NBC
As most episodes of Freaks and Geeks do, ‘The Diary’ begins innocently, and slowly snowballs into a brutally honest story about identity. The cold open takes this a step farther: it suggests that some of these characters are trying to run away from it, as Kim and Lindsay stand at the side of the road trying to hitchhike a ride into town. Lindsay talks about a whole “other world” out there that she wants to embrace, dreaming about the possible people that could pick them up. Maybe it’ll be an artist, or some creepy guy that will murder them: but it will be someone else from someplace else, exactly the person Lindsay thinks she wants to be.
Reality, however, has other plans: the man who picks...

Exclusive: Former 90210 showrunner Rebecca Sinclair is back at the CW with a new hourlong dramas. It is one of two projects she has set up at CBS TV Studios, the studio behind 90210. She will write and executive produce both. The untitled CW drama centers on a self-obsessed young pop star – the black sheep of her religious family – who isn’t interested in saving anything but her own career, until a fan claims to have been miraculously healed by her touch and word spreads that she has divine powers. The second project, The Lost Girls, is being developed internally at CBS Studios with Ridley Scott’s Scott Free. It is based on travel memoir The Lost Girls by Jennifer Baggett, Holly Corbett and Amanda Pressner. Just a few updates today, but they're fun.
Grimm premiered to surprisingly strong ratings last night (6.5 million viewers, 2.1 million in the 18-49 demo), or as NBC puts it in the press release, the "largest non-sports 18-49 audience on the night by any network since last year's "New Year's Rockin' Eve" on ABC (2.8 rating)."
What makes this news particularly great is that the show aired opposite the most watched baseball game in the last seven years, and after one of the lowest rated episodes of Chuck ever (the show hit a series low in the key demo, according to TV by the Numbers).
NBC is re-airing the Grimm pilot tonight at 9 pm and the episode will also be shown on Syfy this Tuesday at 7 pm.
Here is the synopsis for next Friday's episode, "Bears Will Be Bears:"
A barbaric family history is revealed when Nick and Hank investigate a case of breaking and entering.

From its hastily constructed beginnings as a no-brainer way in which to build buzz for the fledgling upstart CW network, generating headlines has never been a problem for 90210. Thus, it’s only fitting — as we countdown towards the much-anticipated fourth season premiere — that star Michael Steger (Navid Shirazi) continues in the show’s illustrious tradition by making a few of his very own. Namely, that this upcoming fourth season may mark the beginning of the end.
“I keep saying five years,” said Steger when asked during a recent one-on-one interview with the TV Addict as to just how long he sees the series lasting for. “But you know, that always changes, the CW likes to hold onto its shows.”

Changes are afoot on 90210. The kids have graduated, the adults are out of the picture and there are new showrunners at the helm.
But Michael Steger says the transition from Rebecca Sinclair to Patti Carr and Lara Olsen as lead writers has been "seamless," as cast members can go to the duo about anything and the focus is simply on making season four the best one ever for this CW hit.
What will it entail for Navid?
"He's running the family business," Steger said, adding that it's switched from porn production to music video and commercial production. "But he's still being haunted by his father's past. Certain obstacles will present themselves and make life difficult."
Chief among them? His father's brother, Amal, who somehow got away with Not being accused of child pornography.

Patti Carr and Lara Olsen are now in charge of 90210.

On the heels of a Season 4 pickup, "90210" has hired replacements for former showrunner Rebecca Sinclair. Taking her place will be former "Life Unexpected" executive producers Patti Carr and Lara Olsen, reports Deadline.
This will be their first showrunning gig, though they both have impressive resumes. The duo has collaborated as executive producers on "Private Practice," "The Ex List," "Til Death" and "Reba," among other shows.
Zap2it spoke with "90210" star Trevor Donovan about Sinclair's exit. "I think everybody's just curious to see which direction it's going to go in," he says. "We only have control over so much, and there's only so much you can or should worry about. I think everybody wants the best for the show, so the new showrunners will definitely be qualified and have the experience to send the show in the right direction."...

Writing duo Patti Carr and Lara Olsen have landed their first showrunner gig - they have signed on to executive produce and run the CW's drama 90210 next year.Carr and Olsen will succeed Rebecca Sinclair who recently left the teen soap, which has been renewed for next season. Once again, the CW went to the talent bench of its own series to recruit a new showrunner for 90210. Carr and Olsen were most recently co-executive producers on the CW's praised but short-lived Life Unexpected, while Sinclair was a co-executive producer on Gilmore Girls. Carr and Olsen, repped by CAA and attorney Patti Felker, started off in comedy, with stints on such sitcoms as Reba and 'Til Death, before segueing to hourlong series, including serving as co-executive producers on Private Practice. The two landed a pilot order in 2009 for their adaptation of the U.K. series Ny-Lon at CBS.

90210 will lose another showrunner at the end of this season, according to TVLine.
Rebecca Sinclair is stepping down from her role as overseer of the nouveau 90210, a position she's held since the beginning of the show's second season. Sinclair joined the show in it's first season and took over showrunning duties from Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah. The show was conceived by Rob Thomas of Veronica Mars fame before he moved on to focus on his Cupid reboot, letting Sachs and Judah run the show based on his script.
Sinclair's decision to leave the ficitional Beverly Hills zip code wasn't on bad terms or frustration. According to Deadline's Nellie Andreeva, Sinclair opted out of renewing her contract with CBS TV Studios because of wanting to spend more time with her infant daughter and to start working on her own projects, mainly a novel, her own pilot script, and a movie.

Sinclair was the individual who decided to focus more on the new cast, pushing Jennie Garth and other former stars to the side. She also talked at length last summer about why she decided to turn Teddy gay.
Despite this shake-up, fans can rest easy. 90210 will definitely return for a fourth season.

The end of the season on "90210" will bring about the departures of a couple of cast members -- and the show's behind-the-scenes boss as well.
Executive producer and showrunner Rebecca Sinclair has decided not to renew her contract and stay on with The CW's series, TVLine reports. Her decision won't affect the rest of this season, as production wrapped up last week.
Sinclair, who's also worked on "Gilmore Girls" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," joined "90210" in its first season, after it had already been handed off from original developer Rob Thomas ("Veronica Mars") to "Freaks and Geeks" and "What About Brian" veterans Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah.
The show's producer, CBS TV Studios, seems to be taking Sinclair's departure in stride, calling it "no surprise to us at all."

The CW will likely pick up a fourth season of 90210 but one major player is planning to leave the zip code: EW has learned that showrunner Rebecca Sinclair has decided not to renew her deal. The news was first reported on TVLine.

There will be a change at the helm of CW's drama 90210. Rebecca Sinclair, who took the reins of the show toward the end of its rocky first season and is credited with turning it around, is leaving. The news first broke on TVLine. No replacement for Sinclair has been named yet. While not picked up yet, 90210's renewal for next season is considered a sure thing. Following her stint as co-executive producer on Gilmore Girls, Sinclair was focused for the first time on her own development in the summer of 2008 when she was approached about joining then-new series 90210 as an executive producer under an overall deal with the soap's producer CBS TV Studios. Under the pact, she was supposed to eventually segue to development, but she instead became showrunner and ran the series for the past two seasons. (Production on Season 3 of the show just wrapped.) I hear CBS TV...

American TV writer and producer Padma Atluri has lost her battle with cancer, aged 39.
She passed away on Saturday night from leiomyosarcoma, a rare type of smooth muscle connective tissue tumour. She was diagnosed early last year.
Atluri began her writing career at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and eventually made her move to the entertainment industry in 1999, joining HBO network as manager of Awards & Festivals.
In 2006, she began TV writing, and landed gigs on series comedy Men in Trees and drama 90210 - the modern revamp of 1990s programme Beverly Hills, 90210.
90210 executive producer Rebecca Sinclair has led the tributes to Atluri, calling her "an extraordinary woman", adding, "She was a terrific writer whose scripts bristled with vitality. She was an excellent producer whose incredible charisma and good humour endeared her to every single member of our cast and crew. And as a friend, she was peerless. Generous, gregarious, brave and hilarious, Padma was a great writer and a truly good person. Padma was special. She was incandescent. We miss her terribly and will be inspired by her forever."
Atluri's final episode of 90210 is scheduled to broadcast in America on 21 February, and will be dedicated to her memory.
She is survived by her mother Hyma Atluri, a sister Jyothi, a brother Bob, and her niece, Shivani.

Last week, I snarked how the teens on 90210 were clearly being played by actors well into their twenties. Several readers alerted me to the fact that Trevor Donovan, who plays our gay boy Teddy Montgomery, this year actually turns ... 32! Well, they were right, and while I was digging around to confirm that, I "discovered" that Trevor is doing work a little more in keeping with his actual age including starring in a movie sequel, appearing on a magazine cover, and becoming a spokesman for a product. Check these out:

Season two of 90210 concluded with a disturbing scene: Naomi stuck in a room with Mr. Cannon, seemingly on the verge of getting raped.
In interviews with TV Guide, 90210 cast and crew members made it clear that this horrible action did, indeed, take place - and a chunk of season three will be devoted to the fallout from it.
"A lot of time, people keep this kind of thing inside for years. They can't tell anyone," AnnaLynne McCord told the magazine. "We're going to show a range of what can go wrong when you do that. There will be times Naomi can appear to be a bit crazy because she's trying to cover up what happened to her."
According to 90210 producer Rebecca Sinclair, "Naomi feels deeply disempowered by the rape, and tragically - and mistakenly- feels like she's to blame."
How will her friends react to the incident, which Naomi keeps quiet,...

"Freaks and Geeks" is now airing on IFC, and we thought we'd take this opportunity to revisit the show that launched a thousand bromance movies. Every week, Matt Singer and Alison Willmore will be offering their thoughts on that night's episode.

As any loyal 90210 fan knows by now, Adrianna and Gia will embark on a relationship when this series returns next week.
Producer Rebecca Sinclair swears this is Not merely a publicity move because it "isn’t a fling. We’re coming at this from a genuine place and not going, ‘Let’s do a titillating story that will grab some promotion.’ This is a real aspect of teenager life that’s interesting."
We have our doubts.
Any time a series takes a straight character, who has never shown any inclination toward the same sex, and has her make out with a girl, it screams Ratings Stunt (recent examples include Claire on Heroes, and Katherine on Desperate Housewives, two shows that were struggling mightily at the time of these storylines).
But we're willing to at least watch this 90210 relationship before judging it, especially considering the show has already been picked up for a third season.

He's a goner. The CW confirms that Rob Estes will no longer be a part of 90210 as of next season. Though widespread reports have it that Rob Estes has "quit" the CW's remake, I'm hearing there's more to the story, which also may explain Jennie Garth's departure... According to insiders close to the negotiations, Estes is leaving the series because he could not agree on compensation for the upcoming season with the CW. I'm told the show's producers ultimately were willing to let Rob go because executive producer Rebecca Kirshner and her creative team would like to focus more on the younger castmembers (AnnaLynne McCord, we're looking at you) and less on the...

The rumors and spoilers are true: Adrianna will start a relationship with Rumer Willis' Gia on 90210.
The controversial storyline will unfold in January, as the two characters bond at an AA meeting.
"Gia develops a crush on her, and Adrianna is initally freaked out," 90210 producer Rebecca Sinclair told Entertainment Weekly. "But then she starts to question her own feelings."
What about Navid? Tune in tonight, as he turns down Adrianna's advances and makes it clear he's no longer interested in a relationship with her.
As for Lowndes' take on the same-sex relationship, she said: "I've never kissed a girl before so it's a little nerve-racking."
It also seems a little desperate on the show's part, but we're willing to let this plot develop and see how it plays out. Are you?...
