Matt Hancock has named his dream dinner party guests, including Marilyn Monroe as his ideal “naked chef”.
The campmates discussed their dream dinner party guests, each choosing one alive, one dead, and one fictional.
Hancock’s answer left the other celebrities in hysterics as he chose Disney Princess Pocahontas from the 1995 animated film as his fictional character.
Later, however, he said: “Apparently, she wasn’t fictional so I couldn’t have her…”
“Pocahontas! Matt, you can have anyone… doesn’t have to be a drawing… Pocahontas. I think we’re really getting to know the full Matt Hancock in here,” laughed Seann Walsh.
The politician continued to raise eyebrows when he said that he would have Marilyn Monroe as his naked chef, after Jill Scott said she would choose David Beckham as hers.
For his other choices, Hancock chose the “charming” John F Kennedy, and footballer Kevin Keegan.

Andrew takes a nerdy dive into the pop culture real and fictional that's made its way into the world of Red Dwarf...
Creating culture within science-fiction can be tricky. It’s potentially alienating, with the audience required to understand allusions without a reference point. Then again, if you throw in too many contemporary references, the future starts to look dated pretty quickly. Red Dwarf has walked that fine line, building its own stars and entertainment but chucking in the familiar, just to keep the world grounded. We take a look at humanity’s future culture as seen through the eyes of Lister, Rimmer, Cat, Kryten and Holly.

Playing in the Premier League in front of 52,000 loyal fans would be a dream come true for most professional footballers.
Make the right impression at St James’ Park and you’ll go down in Geordie folklore – just ask Kevin Keegan’s group of Entertainers if you need any proof.
However, on occasions, a move to Tyneside has turned into a nightmare and for some their ill-fated spell with the club will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. Whether they were labelled a mercenary, showed a lack of commitment, or just never really clicked with the passionate supporters in the North East, certain players are likely to regret ever stepping foot on the hallowed turf.
Over the years there have definitely been quite a few flops turn out in the black and white stripes, but which wish they never signed on the dotted line?

Steve McClaren’s men might be a million miles away from earning ‘The Entertainers’ tag awarded to Kevin Keegan’s class of ’96, but there are a few rare gems in the current squad that wouldn’t look out of place in the grandad-collared wearing clan.
Not exactly known for his tactical prowess, King Kev was the master of getting the best out of his players without, well, doing too much. Certain fans will argue this is the polar opposite of Steve McClaren, who has a wealth of underachievers in his ranks.
With little in common, other than being part of the former England managers club, it’s clear that McClaren would love to have a few of the old guard at his disposal – Les Ferdinand, Philippe Albert and later Alan Shearer to name a few.
But who exactly would make the transition the other way? Who...

Hot on the tail of doing some excellent business for Damarai Gray (who will join a packed attacking line-up), Leicester are looking to further cement their impressive season by bringing in some more mettle to their midfield. Having lost the invaluable experience of Esteban Cambiasso in the summer (and suffered not a single hangover from it), the Foxes are looking to bring in similar experience in the shape of AC Milan’s controversial Dutchman Nigel De Jong.
According to the Mirror, Claudio Ranieri is offering Milan £2m for the 31-year-old as a replacement for Gokhan Inler, who has seen his chances at Leicester dramatically reduced. Which would have sounded like the ravings of a wildman last season, but here we are. The Swiss midfielder is also being linked with Schalke, and the Mirror say De Jong has been identified as the key replacement.

It’s not often that I write a list where it’s harder to condense ideas rather than devise them but creating a feature involving unsuccessful players at Newcastle United is as simple as getting Brendan Rodgers to talk about himself.
The sorting process is relatively simple. You just have to ask three questions. Did the player play during Kevin Keegan’s 1995-96 or Bobby Robson’s 2001-04? Is the player Alan Shearer? Were they part of Alan Pardew’s remarkable fifth place finish in 2011-12? Right, now if the answer is no for each then they were probably a Tyneside failure.
Obviously there are a few exceptions (Antoine Sibierski for starters): a handful of players have escaped the shame of being placed on this list as my warm heart believes they were either poorly managed or not really expected to be any good in the first place.

Life at St James’ Park isn’t easy. Many have tried, most have failed and few have enjoyed their stay in the North East. It’s time to show the fans what it’s like to have a manager that truly cares about their team and demonstrate how your dexterous fingertips can lead them to glory. But where do you start?
Despite the media labelling your appointment as “surprising” you have beaten a number of managers to the post and Mike Ashley has reiterated his belief that your leadership and determination can bring Newcastle the success...

Newcastle United coach, Steve Black has written to Magpies’ fans after two positive results against Manchester United and Northampton Town.
Black pays tribute to Steve McClaren and talks fondly of the club while outlining their strategy, vision and thirst for excellence.
The former Derby boss brought Black to the Magpies this summer as he looked to build a perfect team in order to bring silverware to St James’ Park.
Black worked with Kevin Keegan during the Entertainers days and was a key man on the backroom staff of the Wales Six Nations squad and the 2001 British Lions.
He said when he arrived he first arrived, he saw a team that had a lot more talent than results suggested and fully believes that the Magpies can reach a higher level.
Here is the full transcript of what the coach said:

Newcastle United and Manchester United go way back. Even though they couldn’t possibly be further apart in terms of league positioning following the 2014/15 Barclays Premier League campaign, both are huge clubs in England and are on par in terms of heritage and tradition.
There was a time, believe it or not, when the two sides were the best in the land and battling it out for the Premier League title as every single Geordie dreamed their way through a fantastic period in the club’s history. It was business as usual for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men, as that ‘been there done that’ know how gave them the edge while The Magpies lost their heads.
Newcastle famously found themselves 12 points clear of the Red Devils in the title race only to see the league trophy snatched from their grasp in one of the most shocking turnarounds in football history.

Forget Kevin Keegan’s rant or seven-goal thrillers at Anfield, this is the feel-good list that every Newcastle United fan has been longing for.
Why? Because Newcastle are largely remembered for their shortcomings rather than a wonderful story that stuck to the most fanciful of scripts when it comes to the Barclays Premier League. It has to be one of the most annoying things about being a fan of The Magpies…
This depressing fact was underlined by Sky Sports this summer as the only footage of they showed of United in one of their promotional videos for the upcoming season, other than the moments aforementioned, was Temuri Ketsbaia kicking seven bells out of the advertising hoardings in 1998…

Every year, fans eagerly await the arrival of their team’s new home kit. While the base colours rarely change, small quirks can make or break a team’s aesthetic for an entire season. Just look at former Lyon captain and Brazil international Claudio Cacapa’s face. No wonder Newcastle United were relegated in 2009 with characters like this in their squad.
It’s a season that will be looked back on with some distain obviously, but one that ultimately looked the have been for the club’s best interest when they qualified for the Europa League in 2012. It cleared the squad of all the dead weight and overly inflated egos, leaving true professionals behind that only wanted the best for the club.
However, since Mike Ashley decided not to kick on and spend on the squad when the club was at its most appealing, we now find ourselves with a squad bereft of any real quality and facing a similarly turbulent end to the season like six years ago.

Newcastle United are never short of madness on the pitch.
From highlights such as Alan Shearer’s 206 record breaking goals, to Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer’s infamous scrap, the Toon Army have witnessed many up and downs.
The day in 2009 that saw them relegated will forever be etched in the memory of the Geordie faithful and so will the day when Cheick Tiote’s majestic volley sealed a 4-4 draw with Arsenal after being 4-0 down only 19 minutes earlier.
Alongside that are moments such as the numerous cup final loses and the all too distant memory of Sunderland’s 5-1 thrashing at St James’ Park.
The nostalgic era of Kevin Keegan’s ‘Entertainers’ and the trauma of recent derby defeats are all but a few examples of the bumpy ride that is the life of Newcastle United and its most loyal of fan bases.

Although Newcastle fans may have got their dream present this Christmas with Alan Pardew’s impending exit from St. James’ Park, a troubling anxiety over what happens next has crept in. “Sack Pardew” may have been the cry for months but few would have been able to tell you who should be in charge instead. The focus was so aggressive on Pardew out that nobody even thought about what the follow-up would be if it actually happened.

If Alan Pardew’s recent successes and the 5th place finish he lead the club to in 2012 has proved one thing, it’s that underwhelming managers can manage spectacular things. It might be unfair to cast Pardew off entirely as a terrible manager – it is a close run thing there for a while and the jury should still be out – and over the years Newcastle have been stuck with some seriously poor managers.
But there have been some surprising moments of over-achievement from even the very worst – including Gordon Lee, the man generally held as the very worst manager ever to take control at St. James’ Park. If nothing else, this at least offers the lesson that we shouldn’t always trust generic opinions either way, and indeed that high-points are indeed possible by otherwise irredeemable managers.
But who is the greatest player to have defied...

There are few constants in football: players will always want to follow the money, managers will blame everything but themselves and club owners will penny pinch no matter where they are – taxes aren’t even reliable now. But one thing you can always count on is the “wisdom” of Sam Allardyce: as soon as there’s any big topic to talk about, you can pretty much guarantee that the West Ham boss will be there offering his “expert” thoughts.
And that usually counts doubly for Newcastle United because the manager seems to think that he was badly done to at the club. He still thinks he would have been able to turn the club into the European power Mike Ashley initially said he wanted, and no matter how many stats or terrible signings you put in front of him, there would be no telling him.

Remember the time Derek Llambias spoke out about Newcastle fans, Alan Shearer, Kevin Keegan, Chris Hughton and Andy Carroll’s ridiculous over-pricing in 2011? He has said that Hughton was too nice, Shearer a poor manager, Keegan petulant and Liverpool stupid for paying £35m for the Geordie striker.
With Newcastle again linked with a move for their former striker – now looking like fourth choice at West Ham – this January, Llambias’ quotes about him in particular seemed particularly pertinent.
In the interest of disclosure, Llambias – who was recorded by fans – was apparently quoted as saying that Carroll was worth “f*ck all” – and that the club had nonetheless held out to get even more:
“It is about control. We had the control. We knew the Torres deal was there. We drew that f*cking deal, perhaps the ultimate. So £30m? F*ck off! Don’t...

David moves has been talking to the Telegraph to admit – unsurprisingly – that he’s ready to get back into management should the right job come along. Inevitably, given the fact that the former Everton and Man Utd boss has been topping some polls for who fans want as the next Newcastle boss, the conclusion for some will be that Newcastle is the right job he’s waiting for.
He has said that he would be happy to work abroad, since Britain doesn’t export enough managerial talent to balance all the foreign coaches given top jobs here:
“You look at how well Terry Venables did in Spain and how well Bobby Robson did – they are up there with the great managers and both had periods working in Europe.”
“It’s good that we have good managers like Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger in this country but...

There’s a good reason that Newcastle United is often called the soap opera club: it’s very rare that a couple of weeks goes past at St. James’ Park without someone renaming something against the fans’ wishes, or someone punches someone else, or someone else generally gets away with being the worst manager of the last 12 months without punishment.
For a while under Kevin Keegan the drama didn’t really matter: while the club were earning their reputation as the Entertainers on the pitch it didn’t really matter what was happening off the pitch – but when the tides turned and things got a little more bleak, it became all too easy for the tabloids and other fans to stick the knife in on the club, with players claiming it was a god-fish bowl and others just generally behaving like zoo animals. All-in-all, the club...

I never thought I'd ever say this, but ITV aren't as bad as everyone makes out when it comes to live football. Hear me out - it's not as crazy as it may first sound.
For years, I've been baffled that anyone would choose to watch ITV over BBC One if given the choice. However, as this year's World Cup has proved so far, both channels have had their fair share of gaffes and errors.
The BBC is pretty stellar when it comes to live tennis, snooker, athletics and many other sports, and Match of the Day is clearly light years ahead of ITV's The Premiership, but has ITV suddenly gained back some ground this year?
There's probably two words that you're thinking which throws out my argument: Adrian Chiles. The former BBC man has become the face of ITV football, possibly because they're stuck with him and don't know where to plonk him.

The North-East is a hotbed for football. You’ll be hard pressed to find anywhere so obsessed with football in the country as this area. Football is a way of life, particularly in Newcastle, and there is nothing loved more than a local hero. Although the current regime has gone down the route of the “French Revolution”, leading to criticism from some corners for the lack of British talent, and that from their own academy, fans love to see one of their own strut their stuff in the black and white.
Jack Colback’s crossing of the divide from Sunderland to Newcastle on a free transfer was confirmed this week, and it was understandably met with a mixed response from fans, given his role for the old enemy from the start of his career. Some believe that he has a lot to do to win over his new club,...

What did the maker of Football Manager do next? Well, it's a football game...
Interview
Football Manager creator Kevin Toms has given us the lowdown on his first football management game in almost 30 years: Football Team Coach.
The iPhone game, which is due to be released at the end of this summer, is a brand new game, but will have distinct echoes of the original Football Manager series that sold millions in the 1980s.
Perhaps the biggest nod to Football Manager’s past is the inclusion of former playing greats, so you will be able to play Kevin Keegan up front for Rochdale, or have Terry Butcher marshalling the defence at Northampton Town.
True to the original game, players will also have to work their way up from League Two – or the fourth division in old money – rather than immediately glory hunt with teams such as Man City, Liverpool and...

From Kevin Keegan’s ‘Entertainers’ side of the mid-nineties to Sir Bobby Robson’s Champions League chasers of the noughts and even current shot-shy crop under Alan Pardew’s stewardship; the Premier League era has been rich in memorable goals for Newcastle supporters.
In the last quarter-of-a-century we’ve been blessed with an array of domestic and exotic talent capable of spectacular scoring feats in a black and white shirt with a special few able to boast their own personal highlight reel while some players are remembered for an isolated moment of exceptional brilliance.
We all have our favourite goal. Some are the 30-yard screamers that sizzle into the top corner, others the product of a dazzling run and composed finish or a breathtaking piece of skill. All aesthetically pleasing in their own right.

Football is overflowing with tales of teams bottling it in the big games. England and their numerous penalty shoot-out failures immediately springs to mind while just this season Liverpool choked in their failed pursuit of a first Premier League title in over 20 years.
But why is there a tendency for teams to crumble in the pressure-cooker situations that require a sound mind and as sturdy backbone? The causes are usually psychological with a fear and lack of belief usually cited as the major causes.
Newcastle have also endured their fair share of hiccups in the pursuit of glory, both domestically and on the European stage. Most famously in the 1995/96 when Kevin Keegan’s ‘Entertainers’ side blew an insurmountable 12-point lead to concede the Premier League crown to Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson in the greatest battle of wits between two managers the top-flight has ever witnessed.

Despite winning the Premier League with Manchester City this season, James Milner has this weekend revealed a desire to leave the Etihad this summer. The Sunday People claim that he will tell his manager Manuel Pellegrini after the World Cup that he wishes to be transfer listed to “seek a new challenge” (football to reality translation – he wants to start every week).
Milner started just 17 times in the league this season, making a further 14 appearances from the bench. Crucially, the deciding final two games saw him play just 14 minutes on the final day against West Ham and be substituted on the hour mark against Aston Villa the midweek before.
The Sunday newspapers claim the likes of Arsenal, Spurs, Everton and Newcastle would be interested in his signature. His high wages, said to be £90,000 a week, would be a huge problem for Newcastle as he...

A video has appeared online of a Q & A starring former Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan in which he revealed some more detail behind his highly publicised departure from the club back in 2008.
The biggest message the discontented portion of the Newcastle crowd should take from Keegan’s talk-in should be his rallying cry, in between morsels of irresistible revelation, which will no doubt be seen as another inspiration quote to add to the protests:
“Don’t ever give up on your club, keep supporting it, it’s your club and trust me one day you will get your club back and it will be everything you wanted it to be.
“Newcastle United is bigger than anyone. It hurts I know, but just keep going, he is only one man, we are a city, a whole population. Trust me.”

In 21 combined years as a Premier League club Newcastle have hired ten permanent managers, five different caretakers and two interims. Half-a-dozen of the ten were sacked. Viva stability!
But as with every firing at St James’ Park the rumour mill habitually hits the overdrive button and mindlessly churns out a plethora of names to ostensibly market as the Magpies’ latest leader of men. And we’ve had some humdingers down the years!
Some of rumoured incumbents to the black and white throne were instantly dismissed while others spread a blanket of sorrow over Tyneside upon rejecting the once in a lifetime (or twice if you’re Kevin Keegan) to steer the ship of this bonkers football club.

There may have been a distinct lack of silverware at Newcastle United over the past four decades or so, but there’ll be a different kind of silver on display when the Magpies take to the field this weekend.
The Toon’s trip to Liverpool for their final game of the current campaign on Sunday will see Alan Pardew’s men don their all-new silver away kit for the very first time. (On sale now from the club shop)
Fabricio Coloccini, Cheick Tiote and Co will be following in some very famous footsteps when they emerge from the tunnel at Anfield, with the colour used by the St. James’ Park outfit as far back as the early 1980s.
Newcastle’s traveling fans have enjoyed some memorable silver-lined moments from some big names at home and abroad, and here WhatCulture.com looks at seven of them.

One of the big mysteries of Newcastle’s season this term has been the status of Jonas Gutierrez.
The long-serving Argentine winger had been first choice for the left-hand side of Newcastle’s midfield for five seasons but after picking up an injury in The Magpies’ awful 4-0 drubbing against Manchester City, he seemingly disappeared and became the forgotten man. Reports were that he had returned home to South America for undisclosed personal reasons before making the briefest of cameos from the bench at Cardiff City in early October, before then barely appearing in any squad for the rest of the season and making no first-team appearances. He has appeared for just 63 minutes in total this season.
Alan Oliver at the Daily Mirror tried to solve the Jonas mystery last month by claiming that Gutierrez’s lack of football for Newcastle this season wasn’t an accident and the hierarchy at St.

David Coleman, veteran BBC sports broadcaster, has passed away at the age of 87.
With a career spanning over 50 years, Coleman was beloved for his enthusiastic style of sports commentating during 11 Olympic Games and six World Cups.
Digital Spy brings you some of Coleman's most memorable broadcasting moments below:
Liverpool vs Newcastle United, 1974 'Goals pay the rent'
While Coleman was known for sticking his foot in his mouth from time to time (eventually known in the commentating world as the 'Colemanball'), the broadcaster was also beloved for his colourful commentary, as demonstrated by his comment on Kevin Keegan's winning goal in a 1974 Liverpool vs Newcastle United game.
David Coleman meets Barry Watson, Montreal Olympics, 1976
Aside from being a commentator and sports news presenter, Coleman was also an adept sports interviewer. In this video from the 1976 Montreal Olympics, he impressively keeps up a conversation with athlete Barry Watson while running down a hill.

Being hit for six by Manchester City on Sunday left Tottenham Hotspur head coach Andre Villas-Boas proclaiming he was “ashamed” of his side.
Defensive mistakes from Spurs were literally punished from the first whistle at the Etihad with not even 15 seconds on the clock when they conceded. Hugo Lloris’s horror show on his return from concussion cost Tottenham twice through poor clearances. The back four in front of him were at fault for the other goals.
This humbling and humiliating defeat proved to be the North London club’s darkest day in the Premier League for almost 17 years. It was their heaviest loss since Newcastle United put seven past them in the Kevin Keegan era.
Avb’s back five are easy targets to blame for this capitulation, and we pulled no punches in our player ratings on Sunday. The malaise lay both in defence and attack,...

England, despite the national side’s failures over the past 20-or-so years, have been blessed with some truly wonderful footballers, and the viewing public have at times been spoiled with the quality on show. Of course, that fact makes it all the more frustrating that the England team have been so inexplicably poor in recent years.
So who made the list of the top five English players ever? Basing my criteria on technical ability, success and influence on contemporaries and/or later generations, I have compiled, cut and ordered a list of just five English players who I feel are the best in the history of the game. Naturally, many readers of this article are going to be disappointed, and below are some honourable mentions (which are also nowhere near exhaustive), but please don’t hesitate to add your suggestions etc in the comments. Happy reading!

The stars came out in force at St. James’ Park last night as almost 51,000 fans paid tribute to one of Newcastle United’s loyalist servants.
Some of the biggest celebrities in the Magpies’ history turned out for Steve Harper’s testimonial, and faced an AC Milan side packed with legends of their own.
Celebrated names such as Alan Shearer, Faustino Asprilla and David Ginola all donned the black and white shirt one more time to mark 20 years of service from the goalkeeper.
And the Italians weren’t short of household names themselves, with Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi and Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio all featuring on an emotional night on Tyneside.
The game itself, which ended goalless, was settled by a penalty shootout that saw the Rossoneri’s old boys triumph. But the outcome was of little importance on a evening that saw all proceeds handed to local charities.

Pak-American billionaire Shahid Khan has purchased Fulham Football Club from the long-serving owner Mohamed Al-Fayed and now controls 100% of the London-based club.
Shahid Khan was listed as the 491st wealthiest man in the world according to Forbes in 2012 and is worth $2.9 billion (£1.92 bn) as or March 2013 – more than twice as much as Al-Fayed.
After 16 years at Craven Cottage, the Egyptian is leaving the Cottagers behind after seeing them gain two promotions and reach the UEFA Europa League final under his ownership.
It all began in May 1997 for Mohamed Al-Fayed when he purchased Fulham Football Club in the summer of 1997 shortly after they gained promotion from the Third Division (fourth tier) as runners-up to Wigan Athletic.
The deal cost the successful Egyptian businessman £6.25m. It is reported that Al-Fayed has sold the club for somewhere between £150-200m.

Bradley Cooper recently reflected on this purple patch in his career in a chat with the HuffPost, saying: "I feel very fortunate. This is a wonderful time in my life. No question about it. And I just wake up every day and make sure I enjoy the hell out of it."
It's understandable. In four short years, the Philadelphia-born star of 'The Hangover 3', in cinemas this week (you can read our Review here), and its lucrative predecessors has seen his status change from that of rom-com eye-candy to acting credibility, to rank him alongside peers such as Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio. An Oscar nod this year for 'Silver Linings Playbook' only confirmed that he has come a long way from the tousle-haired student nervously asking Sean Penn a question in The Actors' Studio (see video below). Here's how he's done it...

With the exception of the classic seminal Hitch-Hiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, funny science-fiction shows are in short supply. So much so, in fact, that I believe Red Dwarf may be the only one around — who mentioned Hyperspace? Get the hell out of here! The thing about it is that it doesn’t just lampoon science-fiction: that would be easy enough to do, as films like Spaceballs and Galaxy Quest, and even the Robot Chicken Star Wars have shown us. But it’s a lot harder to be properly respectful to the thing you’re putting a humorous slant on, and to understand and embrace it, than it is just to basically make a laugh out of it. And Red Dwarf has I believe managed to straddle the border between serious or at least semi-serious sci-fi and comedy, without totally sliding over onto either side.

With the recent appointment of Paolo Di Canio at Sunderland, the English Premiership has welcomed back one of its most controversial figures. That statement is saying alot considering some of the mangers that have been in charge over the years.
The following is a list of 7 managers who I believe are the figures to cause the most controversy. Disagree ? then feel free to add your comments.
7. Joe Kinnear
A bizarre appointment that seemingly came out of the blue at a very disjointed Newcastle team, on the 26th of September 2008 Newcastle hired the 61-year-old former Wimbledon and Luton manager Joe Kinnear as their interim boss until the end of October, following the resignation of Kevin Keegan.
Kinnear blew his top just Four days into his reign as interim boss, issuing forth a foul-mouthed tirade in response to what he considered to be unreasonable criticism. 52 swear words spewed fourth in five amazing minutes.

Newcastle: Twinned with France.
Or at least that’s what some might say, given the current make-up of the Magpies’ first team squad. However, French players on the Toon are not a new phenomenon, and here we look back at ten former Newcastle stars from across the channel to see how they stack up against the French Connection of today.
The country which brought the world David Guetta, Les Misérables and the baguette was already the birthplace of seven Newcastle players going into the January transfer window, but by the close of trading on January 31st the club’s incoming transfers had ramped that connection up a whole new level.
Firstly, Euro 2012 right back Mathieu Debuchy finally joined from Lille, and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa added extra reinforcement to the Newcastle defence following a move from reigning French champions Montpellier.
Tyneside then saw the addition of two attacking talents in the form...

Updated: Sky Sports News reported at 9.30am this morning that Fabricio Coloccini Had turned up for training with Newcastle this morning.
Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini is set to walk out on the club by insisting he never wants to play for them again, according to the Independent.
The 31-year old plans to leave Tyneside and return to his native Argentina in a bid to resolve “personal problems” in his private life.
Newcastle were hopeful of holding on to the player at least until the end of the season and talks with his representatives have been on-going this week in a bid to broker a resolution, however club officials were unable to reach an agreement with the centre-back who is now set to quit.
Coloccini has been heavily linked with his former club San Lorenzo, whom he played for on loan between 2000-01, and his father Osvaldo currently works there too.

Things that spring to mind when you think about Newcastle: Newcastle Brown Ale, the Tyne Bridge, Hadrian’s Wall and Geordie Shore. As for football? Well, without a major honour since 1969, it’s no real surprise they have been stuck in a rut for decades. Though don’t let that statistic fool you, as the Magpies have contested some of the greatest Premier League games in history, including the 4-3 loss to Liverpool or the incredible 4-4 draw with Arsenal.
And there have been highlights despite the lack of silverware: their days under Kevin Keegan put Newcastle back on the footballing map, and their Champions League antics under the late Sir Bobby Robson put them on the map across Europe. Who can forget Craig Bellamy’s 92nd minute winner against Feyenoord?
We forget they’ve had legends such as Jackie Milburn and Hughie Gallacher, or more recent, Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.

Each year across the entire globe, millions flock to their local games shops or digital retailers to purchase the latest installment in the Football Manager series. Many ‘outsiders’ question why we’re ‘buying the same game as last year’, but that’s a rude and to be honest, poor interpretation and analysis on the game. I’m not a massive fan of ‘The Sims’ and to the uneducated eye, the same could be said but the fans go back because little by little, their game is slowly forming into a gaming masterpiece. Why buy an expansion of ‘The Sims’ when you can the original game? Why buy FM13, if the ‘core’ game is similar to FM12?
It’s simple. This year Si Games have really pulled it out of the bag.

When Newcastle United line up on Sunday afternoon to face Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United, they do so with the weight of history imbalanced firmly in the other direction, with last year’s Premier League runners-up enjoying the best of the matches between the two for the majority of the Premier league era. In their latest meeting, at Old Trafford a few short weeks ago, Manchester United were once more victorious, snatching a 2-1 victory, despite a spirited Newcastle display to set up a League Cup fourth round match with Chelsea, but the Toon Army needn’t be disheartened by the lessons of the past completely.
Since the inception of the Premier League era, this has been one of the most entertaining, eye-catching of fixtures on the list, thanks to a huge number of goals and a healthy rivalry that stayed as the hangover of the Entertainers Era on...

Newcastle United’s fixture list for the 2012/13 Premier League campaign has been released and United will start off with tough games against London opposition… welcoming Tottenham Hotspur to St. James’ Park on August 18th for the first game and then travelling to Stamford Bridge to take on European Champions Chelsea away on August 25th.
The Mags will also end the season with a rare home game at St. James’ Park, taking on Arsenal and if Newcastle are once again fighting for a Champions League spot on the last day of the season again then with home advantage they might just succeed this time around.
Newcastle last played Tottenham in an opening league game way back in August 1993 when Teddy Sheringham scored the only goal of the game against a newly-promoted Kevin Keegan side at St. James’ Park.
United have a tough Christmas schedule with a Boxing Day game away to...

Paddy Power have created a fine graphic parody rendering of The Avengers film poster to represent Newcastle United as ‘The Contenders’!
Carrying the tagline “Coming to a Champions League near you soon… maybe”, The Contenders represents The Geordie’s quest for a return to Europe’s elite competition for the first time in a decade as they are currently sitting in fourth place, three points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur with four games left to play.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is Iron Man, Yohan Cabaye takes aim as Hawkeye, Cheick Tiote is commanding as Nick Fury, Fabricio Coloccini’s curly locks fit Thor like a glove (or a hammer?), Tim Krul is standing proud as Captain America, Gazza is raging as The Incredible Hulk and Cheryl Cole cuts a nice figure as Black Window.
Kevin Keegan has seen The Contenders for himself and has told us “You’ll Love It, Love...

If the past few years has taught us only one thing, it is this: Premier League football is now driven by the currency of immediate success. Pre-season directorial statements of intent and objectives are far more set in stone than in earlier years that saw Sir Alex Ferguson allowed to ride out an unsuccessful period before striking it rich. In short, if you fail to meet expectations at any stage in your managerial career, the axe will now usually fall, cutting the average tenure of a manager drastically, and making previously untouchable names like Arsene Wenger far less invincible. Past successes count for nothing.
The fact of the matter is: Kenny Dalglish has never been quite the infallible genius that certain elements of the footballing world have previously proclaimed him. Especially not since leaving Newcastle United under a dark cloud having effectively dismantled Kevin Keegan’s Entertainers, and turning the...

Today’s news that former Newcastle United and Leeds United midfielder and Wales manager Gary Speed was found dead left what I believe will be a lasting emotional scar on the footballing world, as well as having a profound personal effect. Speed was part of the team under Sir Bobby Robson who threatened to bring the good times of Kevin Keegan’s Entertainers back to St James Park, and his willingness to work for every team he played for endeared him enormously to fans.
He was a professional, the kind of player who cliched adages stuck to with genuine sentiment and who still holds the third highest Premiership appearance record behind Ryan Giggs and David James predominantly in a position that required a serious amount of commitment and energy to become anything close to the highest level. That is some going.
