We're just two weeks away from Fantastic Fest and the lineup looks nothing short of "fantastic".. pun intended as I'm on the Jury for this section. What's been added you ask?

The enterprising folks at Pink Eiga have released the first two titles in a series of rare English-subtitled pinku releases: Shuji Kataoka’s S&M Hunter (1986) and Osamu Sato’s New Tokyo Decadence: The Slave (2007). The titles officially launch on January 14, 2009 but are available for purchase directly from Pink Eiga’s site right now. S&M Hunter (depicted at left) was reviewed earlier in the year on Twitch; a review of New Tokyo Decadence is forthcoming. Needless to say, both films are offensive, weird and most importantly, very entertaining.

Shuji Kataoka’s S&M Hunter (1986) was one of two films supplied by Pink Eiga for the Behind The Pink Curtain retrospective at Fantastic Fest. The screening of the company’s newly subtitled digibeta source proved to be one of the highlights of the festival. S&M Hunter’s casual parade of vulgar humor and taboo imagery might be as extreme as pinku eiga gets.

While much of the attention of Fantastic Fest centers around the new discoveries and premiere feature films, each year we always present a new repertory retrospective. This year we are featuring two classic series: Not Quite Hollywood: Ozsploitation Classics and Behind The Pink Curtain: Japanese Pinku Films.
Not Quite Hollywood: Ozsploitation Classics
This year, Fantastic Fest is dedicated to making everyone we know into giant, committed fans of Ozploitation cinema. That is - the peculiar brand of exploitation films that bubbled to the surface in Australia in the '70s and '80s. Certainly the best known are the Mad Max films but those didn't emerge in a vacuum. The industry was already pumping out films as rude, tough and resourceful as the primal Aussie himself,...
