"Citizen Sleuth" is a darkly funny, engaging, and thrilling documentary about a true crime podcast that has all the fascinating twists and turns of true crime, while flipping the script and focusing on the voice behind the podcast. The documentary chronicles not a tragic death, but the rise and fall of a podcast dedicated to it, and the complicated ways its host became trapped in her own narrative.
The film deals with the tragic death of 20-year-old Jaleayah Davis in West Virginia back in 2011, a death that was ruled accidental but had some bizarre circumstances that gave rise to rumors about police corruption and lies from Davis' friends the night of her death. It is in these rumors that the true crime podcast, "Mile Marker 181" (after the final resting place of Davis' car) was born.

In the nine years since Serial, the “true crime podcaster” has become, variously, a career goal, sociological type and, in TV shows like Only Murders in the Building, object of satire. In Citizen Sleuth, world premiering in SXSW’s Documentary Spotlight section, debuting director Chris Kasick considers his voluble, no-filter subject—Emily Nestor of the Mile Marker 181 podcast—from all of these angles while also producing a work that is something of a moral reckoning for the popular audio genre. In 2011, Jaleayah Davis, a 20-year old Ohio woman, died in a horrible drunk-driving accident, her head severed from her body. Or […]

Exclusive: Following six seasons as Howard Hamlin on AMC’s megahit Better Call Saul, Patrick Fabian has signed on to lead the indie The Way We Speak from writer-director Ian Ebright (From the Sky).
Billed as an allegory about America’s fractured politics and culture, the film follows Simon (Fabian), an up-and-coming commentator whose world is turned upside down when his best friend and debate opponent suffers a fatal heart attack. Simon refuses to leave the spotlight at an annual thought-leader summit, leading to an obsession with his new opponent and a growing rift with his ailing wife, Claire (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’s Diana Coconubo).
Ebright’s Broken Telegraph is producing the pic, also to star Kailey Rhodes (Black Pool), Ayanna Berkshire (Twilight) and Lowell Deo (Z Nation). Fabian is repped by The Kohner Agency and Essential Talent Management.

Even with Michael Dougherty’s Krampus invading theaters this year, Chris Kasick’s Uncle Nick will assuredly be the creepiest Christmas tale of the holiday season. Demonic elves and killer toys might get a few screams, but there’s nothing more horrifying than a drunken Uncle who’s contemplating some inter-step-family boinking. Mike Demski’s screenplay scrutinizes every family-get-together cliché in this Yuletide clusterf#ck, with the sleaze factor jacked up to sloppy, mythical levels of alcoholic debauchery. This is the family dinner every dysfunctional family dreads, especially if memories of Cleveland-based sports teams are only more cause for sadness. Forget about a bad Santa, this Christmas is all about one bad uncle.
Posehn stars as the lewd, crude, and far-too-jolly Uncle Nick, who kicks off his Christmas Eve with a whiskey Old Fashioned that never seems to find itself fully empty. His brother, Cody (Beau Ballinger), invites Nick over...

I’m not sure what your holiday traditions are, but in my family, it’s not Christmas until you’ve watched at least one movie that makes you realize your family is not that bad, because it could always be worse. I joking, of course, but let’s say “hypothetically” that I’m not.
For me, ever since I first saw National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation at an age probably too early to be watching the film, I’ve had a special place in my heart for Clark Griswold. A man with a good heart and no sense to navigate in the world. Year after year, I watch that film like a big eyed, innocent child all over again, and when Clark finally loses his shit in front of everyone, chugging back the adult egg nog, inside I’m saying “Amen, brother!”
What the Hell am I babbling on about,...

Read More: Watch: Errol Morris-Approved 'Uncle Nick' Trailer Warns It's Going To Be An Uncomfortable Christmas Brian Posehn's unforgettable facial features and stoic brand of comedy have appeared on such television shows like "The Sarah Silverman Program," "New Girl" and, most recently, Netflix's "W/ Bob and David." In "Uncle Nick," Posehn stars as the titular drunk in what is described as "the anti-christmas movie of the year." The bright, pasty Christmas poster features an animated Posehn in a deceivingly stable image of a jovial Uncle Nick fallen over on his chair, completely spread about over his own destruction. You can take a look at the poster below. "Uncle Nick" also stars Missi Pyle and Paget Brewster. The movie is directed by former "Attack of the Show" head writer Chris Kasick and written by Mike Demski, another "Attack of the Show" veteran. Prolific documentarian Errol Morris serves as.

Uncle Nick could still turn out to be a black comedy yuletide classic, but it’s going to be foremost remembered as a piece of trivia as the only (first?) comedy that renowned documentarian Errol Morris ever produced (Uncle Nick director, Chris Kasick, is a regular actor in Errol Morris-directed commercials). In a resume that includes hard looks at genocide, war atrocities, and however you want to categorize the sexual mishaps of Tabloid, Uncle Nick’s broad black comedy looks particularly out of place, but maybe Morris knows something we don’t.
That said, the first green band trailer isn’t a particularly strong argument for the movie’s actual quality. It’s not a great first impression to release a sanitized, mildly suggestive trailer for a movie about a skeezy, obnoxious, foul mouthed drunk uncle, but the preview does serve as a good look at the ensemble cast...
