The Avenue has landed North American rights to the action comedy “Old Guy,” starring Christoph Waltz, Lucy Liu and Cooper Hoffman.
Simon West directed the film, while “The Last Son” scribe Greg Johnson penned the script.
The film follows aging contract killer Danny Dolinski (Waltz), who still believes he’s the best at what he does. Stuck at a dead end but vying for the love of club manager Anata (Liu), Danny is thrilled when The Company pulls him back in the field — but it’s only to train Gen Z newcomer Wihlborg (Hoffman), a prodigy assassin with an attitude. The mismatched pair is asked to eliminate top members of a competing crime syndicate and, in the process, uncover their employer’s true motive: removing the old guard in a full takeover. However, The Company didn’t anticipate that Danny’s experience, coupled with Wihlbord’s brilliance, could enable them...

Drive-in critic Joe Bob Briggs just showed writer/director Kevin S. Tenney’s 1986 horror classic Witchboard (watch it Here) on his Shudder series The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs this past Friday, so today seems like the perfect day for a Witchboard remake casting announcement. Writer/director Kevin S. Tenney’s 1986 horror classic Witchboard (watch it Here) is one of my all-time favorites, and we’ve been hearing rumblings of a remake for a long time now. Going all the way back to the 2007, in fact. Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer director Mark Vadik was attached to write and direct the film in 2011, then in 2019 we heard that Chuck Russell – whose credits include A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, The Blob (1988), The Mask, Eraser, and The Scorpion King – had signed on to direct the film. And it looks like the Witchboard remake is actually going to happen with Russell at the helm. Deadline reports that Russell has even found the first cast member for the project: Jamie Campbell Bower, who caught a lot of attention last year for playing the villainous Vecna (pictured below) in season 4 of Stranger Things.

Getting romantic dramas made in today’s cinematic landscape is becoming more and more challenging, yet veteran director Andy Fickman, who is currently in production on the buzzy indie “One True Loves,” remains cheerful and optimistic about the genre. “In general, and pretty much short of being a tentpole, it’s very hard to get things made. People aren’t making romantic dramedies that much anymore, but at the same time, there’s a real need for content because of the streaming outlets,” says Fickman, whose energy level remains high even after shooting an all-nighter. Highland Film Group is representing international rights to “One True Loves,” and is co-financing the picture alongside Blue Rider’s Walter Josten. Highland Film Group’s domestic arm, the Avenue, is distributing domestically.

All the Warwick Davis Leprechaun movies are coming out in a new Blu Ray combo pack. The commentary tracks offer some memories of my two contributions to the guilty pleasure franchise. Here are a few more.
I grew up enjoying the absurdist humor of the Monty Python’s Flying Circus TV series. So why not Absurdist Cinema? I loved the 1941 Hellzapoppin’, an early iconic example. The concept of the mid ’90’s Leprechaun franchise was proudly ludicrous – pint sized Jason/Freddy/Chucky amalgam with an Irish twist terrorizes and kills most of the supporting cast. But he was never really scary. I decided to embrace the absurd and make it as much fun as the formula allowed.
Blue Rider Pictures, for whom I had made Night Of The Demons 2, were asked by Trimark to produce the third and, at that stage, the intended last in the series. Send the little guy to Vegas,...

Many horror fans are familiar with Night of the Demons, but before he directed that, Kevin Tenney brought us Witchboard in 1986. Both movies will be released to Blu-ray by Scream Factory on February 4th and we’ve already given you a look at the original trailer for Night of the Demons. Here’s the original trailer for Witchboard:
“It’s called a Ouija Board and it’s been used for thousands of years to communicate with the souls of the afterworld. For beautiful Linda Brewster (Tawny Kitaen), it brings the playful ghost of a dead ten-year-old boy. But when the friendly spirit develops a sudden taste for violent murder and demonic possession, Linda’s boyfriend (Todd Allen) and her former lover (Stephen Nichols) must race to destroy the ferocious portal of the damned.”
Bonus Features:
New Audio commentary with Writer/Director Kevin Tenney and actors Stephen Nichols, James W. Quinn,...

Russell Mulcahy, the director who gave us “Highlander” way back when and, more recently, “Resident Evil: Extinction,” will direct an indie actioner “Give ‘Em Hell, Malone,” starring Ving Rhames, Thomas Jane and Elsa Pataky. Hannibal Pictures and Continental Entertainment are producing, with shooting scheduled to start October 6 in Spokane, Wash. Richard Rionda Del Castro, Richard Salvatore and Johnny Martin are producing the screenplay penned by Mark Hosack. Martin Barab, Oscar Generale, Armand Speca, Walter Josten and Jeffrey Geoffray executive produce the film which centers on a private eye attempting to retrieve a mysterious case. The last film by the Australian filmmaker that was worth anyone’s time was the underrated Denzel Washington action film “Ricochet," produced by Joel Silver back in 1991. Here’s hoping Mulchay Gives Us Hell again after all these years.
