I’ve always felt that the 1979 horror film Tourist Trap (watch it Here) deserves a lot more respect and attention than it gets – and that star Chuck Connors (best known for The Rifleman) deserved the “genre icon” career he was aiming for when he signed on for the movie. Barbara Crampton is someone who did achieve a genre icon career, and she clearly believes there was something great going on with Tourist Trap, because our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that she is producing a remake of the film!
Crampton is the Vice President of Production & Development at Alliance Media Partners, and the company has just acquired the rights to make a new version of Tourist Trap. Crampton will be producing the film alongside Bob Portal, who is Amp’s Managing Director & Head of Production.

We are still in the heat of summer, and that means there’s still some time for the pool, camping, and leisurely road trips across the country. If you’re inclined to take to the open road, may I suggest sticking to major highways and leaving dusty backroads alone. You don’t wanna end up like the kids in either David Schmoeller’s Tourist Trap or Jaume Collet-Serra’s House of Wax (2005). You’re smarter than that. Sure, there’s a compelling case to be made for swapping out hardtop for gravel and dirt. Perhaps you want to witness relics of the past for yourself – abandoned towns and roadside barbeque pits, or even the scarce side-show attraction (if those still even exist). But don’t be a fool. If there’s anything to be learned here, it’s that disaster awaits around the next bend.

It’s time for a new episode of the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw video series, and in this one we’re looking back at a movie I have a great deal of fondness for, the 1979 Charles Band production Tourist Trap (watch it Here)! To find out why we think you should check out Tourist Trap, take a look at the video embedded above.
Directed by David Schmoeller, who also wrote the screenplay with J. Larry Carroll, Tourist Trap stars Chuck Connors as Mr. Slausen, a telekinetic psychopath who lures a group of young people to his ramshackle roadside attraction, unleashing an army of psychically controlled mannequins and other monstrosities upon them. As the terrified youths fight for their lives, secrets are revealed and shock follows shock until the movie reaches its nightmarish, unforgettable finale.

"You're the only person who didn't... look at me like I'm a monster." Michael Mailer Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie romantic thriller titled The Second Sun, the feature debut of producer Jennifer Gelfer. This premiered at a few small festivals last year and arrives in just a few weeks. "Two lost souls meet one cold night in Post-war Manhattan circa 1953. Before dawn arrives, deep rooted secrets will be revealed. And this man and woman, will believe in life, love, and most importantly, miracles again. The human spirit can survive anything." Starring as the two lovers: John Buffalo Mailer as Max, and Eden Epstein as Joy, along with Ciaran Byrne, Claudia Maree Mailer, and Jocelyn Jones. This looks like they had no budget and barely put together a film, that seems more like a play, about how the past always sticks with us. Here's the first official...

It is fitting that Tourist Trap came out in 1979. This was a year of variety in horror with everything from Ridley Scott’s Alien to Lucio Fulci’s Zombie. From space creatures to the walking dead and all points in between, this was the end of a decade and Tourist Trap couldn’t have been made at any other time. It’s magnificently weird.
Released in March by Compass International Pictures, Tourist Trap was not a commercial or critical success. That’s a real shame because it possesses a unique ability to get under the skin of the viewer with the oddest of fears: Mannequins. Have you ever been shopping and felt the dead eyed gaze of these department store statues? Ever felt they were watching…and waiting? Well sit back and strap in as things are about to get strange.

The slasher film does not have that much of a history of being scary. Mostly it’s about some psychopathic killer who easily stalks down his/her victim while they run for their lives but never quite manage to escape. This is of course unless they are pure and virginal deeming them the one to survive for moralistic value. I find that it’s quite rare to find a truly creepy slasher, which is why it was so nice to finally discover Tourist Trap.
In the middle of nowhere on a road that has been made redundant by a new highway is a little museum made up of mannequins and run by a seemingly nice man known as Mr. Slausen. When tourists turn up he...

The 1979 horror flick, Tourist Trap, was re-released on DVD not so long ago and the film will soon be available on Blu-ray. If you haven’t seen Tourist Trap, here’s the official synopsis:
“An eerie and deserted wax museum, Slausen’S Lost Oasis, is the site for spine-tingling terror where four unsuspecting young travelers (including Tanya Roberts from “Charlie’s Angels”) are lured into a very deadly “Tourist Trap.” Slausen, (Chuck Conners) is the reclusive and bizarre owner of this attraction, which is actually more like a macabre chamber of horrors. The grotesque and frightening mannequins in this sordid side-show are only the beginning of the murderous mayhem and nightmarish madness to come.”
Tourist Trap stars Chuck Connors, Jocelyn Jones, Jon Van Ness, Robin Sherwood and Tanya Roberts. The movie is directed by David Schmoeller, who later went on to direct Crawlspace and Puppetmaster. The movie will be released...

Group of friends stuck at a roadside wax museum after having troubles with there jeep are terrorized by the owner who has telekinetic powers.
Effective horror thriller plays out like a cross between The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Psycho and Carrie. However, it stands out as its own original film instead of playing out like a ripoff. While not overtly violent or graphic, Tourist Trap has many suspenseful, scary scenes throughout with the opening sequence and a scene in which a character is suffocated while strapped down to a table particular standouts. The theme throughout Tourist Trap is people's primal fear of mannequins and how they seem to have a lifelike quality to them when in the right mindset. The director milks it for everything it is worth. Pino Donaggio's score...

With the words “Action Packed” adorning the upper portion of the latest release from Shout! Factory and their long running series of genre films from the iconic B-movie God himself, Roger Corman, the latest Corman Cult Classics set is quite an interesting one.
A relatively bare bones triple feature, the “Action Packed Collection” edition of this series features three of Corman’s New World Films more action heavy products. Georgia Peaches, The Great Texas Dynamite Chase and Smokey Bites The Dust all get their day in the sun here. And while this release itself may not be the strongest features wise, these are three of the more interesting releases to see the light of day thanks to Shout! Factory.
Batting lead-off for this release is the middle release seen on the front cover, the 1977 release, The Great Texas Dynamite Chase. Directed by Michael Pressman, the film stars Claudia Jennings (seen in the fellow Corman release,...

Durham, Nc - The hard truth of cinema takes place at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in Durham, Nc from April 14-17. That’s four solid days of movies that don’t feature Natalie Portman’s face being digitally inserted on other bodies. Four days of real people doing real stuff. And you can get some great BBQ.
This years line up has enough goodness to make me have to make painful choices as what to watch. There’s only one screening unless a movie wins a major prize. It’s be there or miss out. Choice wisely. Here’s a few of the films I’m looking to catch:
The Hangman (Thursday 10:20 a.m.) appears to be a creepy classic as it probes the man who executed Nazi Adolph Eichmann. What’s he do now? He ritually slaughters animals. Windfall (Thurs 4:20 p.m.) takes us to Meredith,...

Tourist Trap (1979) D: David Schmoeller Chuck Connors, Tanya Roberts, Jocelyn Jones A curio from the late 1970s, this film was pulled out of mothballs for filler on HBO. It finally received the recognition it deserved when Stephen King gave it glowing reviews in his non-fiction book Danse Macabre. It may not be the best slasher you'll see, but it's certainly one of the creepiest (get used to that word or variations thereof). Anyone who's ever been on a cross-country trip can appreciate the horror of Tourist Trap. Those tiny, out-of-the-way spots are always a bit sketchy. They...
