The ABC dramas “Queens” and “Promised Land” have both been canceled after one season at ABC.
“Queens” concluded its season on the broadcaster back in February. The series followed four women in their 40s who reunite for a chance to recapture their fame and regain the swagger they had in the ‘90s when they were legends in the hip-hop world.
Eve originally starred in the series as Brianna (aka Professor Sex), but she bowed out of the show midway through the season to go on maternity leave. It also starred Naturi Naughton as Jill aka Da Thrill, Nadine Velazquez as Valeria aka Butter Pecan, Taylor Sele as Eric Jones, Pepi Sonuga as Lil Muffin, and Brandy as Naomi aka Xplicit Lyrics.
Zahir McGhee wrote “Queens” and served as an executive producer. Tim Story executive produced and directed the pilot. Sabrina Wind also executive produced. Swizz Beatz served as executive music producer.

Spoiler Alert: This story reveals major plot points from Tuesday’s Season 1 finale of ABC’s Queens.
Although the future of ABC’s freshman series Queens is unknown, it didn’t stop stars Brandy, Naturi Naughton and Nadine Velazquez from giving fans an ending full of surprises.
First, let’s address the elephant in the room. Queens has yet to be renewed for a second season, but the Season 1 finale gives fans closure and a small little cliffhanger that leaves the door open for the story to continue.
One of the biggest surprises of the night was the return of Eve, who took a break from the series after announcing her pregnancy. She last appeared in episode 9, titled “Bars.” While she wasn’t physically on set, her character Brianna made a virtual appearance at the group’s induction into the Hip Hop Hall of Fame.
But before that celebration went down,...

It's been a whirlwind day for ABC.
We've had the renewals of fan-favorite series such as A Million Little Things, The Rookie, and The Conners, the cancellation of Call Your Mother, and now ABC is closing off the day with some series pickups!
Fun, right?
The Wonder Years reboot, which has been a lock for a pickup ever since it was announced, has nabbed a formal series pickup.
We also have another new comedy on the way to ABC next season in the form of Abbott Elementary.
Then there are new dramas, Maggie and Queens, which both sound like they'll be solid additions to the ABC lineup.
Get up to speed on what the shows will be about below.

Four days before ABC’s upfront presentation, the network has made its first new scripted series pickups for the 2021-22 season, with nods to music-themed drama Queens and comedies The Wonder Years, Maggie and Abbott Elementary.
Queens, headlined by Brandy, Eve, Naturi Naughton, Nadine Velazquez and Pepi Sonuga, and the Wonder Years reboot, from Saladin Patterson, the original series’ Fred Savage and Lee Daniels, emerged as frontrunners at the script stage and remained strong during casting, production as well as screening and testing of the finished pilots.
Quinta Brunson’s Abbott Elementary also was an early standout, while Maggie Mull and Justin Adler’s Maggie, headlined by Rebecca Rittenhouse, proved a textbook dark horse, staying largely under the radar until a very strong showing during screenings.
ABC has already passed on a number of pilots, including comedy Adopted, and expect more pilot passes this afternoon, while some pilots will remain in active consideration for midseason.

ABC has given out series orders to the reboot of “The Wonder Years,” drama series “Queens,” and comedies “Maggie” and “Abbott Elementary.”
The new version of “The Wonder Years” is a coming of age story set in the late 1960’s that takes a nostalgic look at a black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama through the point-of-view of imaginative 12 year-old Dean (Elisha “Ej” Williams). With the wisdom of his adult years, Dean’s hopeful and humorous recollections show how his family found their “wonder years” in a turbulent time.
Along with Williams, the series also stars Dule Hill as Bill Williams, Saycon Sengbloh as Lillian Williams, Laura Kariuki as Kim Williams, Julian Lerner as Brad Hitman, Amari O’Neil as Cory Long and Milan Ray as Keisa Clemmons. Don Cheadle will narrate as the adult version of Dean.
