The S.W.A.T. Season 7 finale, which wrapped filming last week — just two days after the surprise un-cancellation news came through — as written left things “wide open” for more adventures for Hondo & Co.
S.W.A.T. showrunner Andrew Dettmann had told TVLine ahead of the seventh and “final” season, “Look, it was presented to us as definitively final. But I’ve always said, as I talk to the actors and the other writers here, everybody holds out hope. Your show’s not gone till your show’s gone, right? So, we’re approaching it to make it a wonderful farewell if that turns out to be what it is.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for S.W.A.T. Season 7 Episode 8 “Family Man.”] It looks like Deacon (Jay Harrington) has made his mind up about his future with S.W.A.T. after the Luca’s (Kenny Johnson) shooting and subsequent retirement left him questioning things. And while he had been waiting to talk to anyone except for Hicks (Patrick St. Esprit), he and Hondo (Shemar Moore) do have the conversation they probably should have had sooner in the latest episode. It’s all because Deacon’s wife Annie (Bre Blair) spilled to Hondo’s wife Nichelle (Rochelle Aytes) about the plans. Just as Hondo’s lamenting the loss of the “core” group—while looking at a photo from back when Chris was still on the team—Nichelle reveals that it really could be “the end of an era” if Deacon does retire, too. At first, Hondo doesn’t think it’s ...

S.W.A.T. is certainly leaning into the nostalgia as it nears its series finale (May 17). Two of Hondo’s (Shemar Moore) team have left in recent episodes—Alex Russell‘s Street transferred to Long Beach, while Kenny Johnson‘s Luca was forced to retire after he was shot trying to stop a robbery off-the-clock. Now, in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the April 12 episode, he finds out that someone on his team has been hiding plans to do the same. Hondo’s wife Nichelle (Rochelle Aytes) finds him looking at an old team photo, from back when Chris was still there. “This group was the core for so long,” Hondo says. “It’s hard to get over the change. I mean, Street’s been gone for weeks. I still catch myself looking for his motorcycle in the parking lot. Now Luca’s gone.” That’s when Nichelle points out,...

CBS is ending three of its longest-running series next month, and the network has officially confirmed the series finale dates.
Bob Hearts Abishola is kicking things off with the series finale of the Billy Gardell comedy set for Monday, May 6, at 8:30/7:30c.
The series has been on the chopping block for some time.
Alarm bells sounded for fans last season when CBS confirmed that only Gardell and Folake Olowofoyeku would return as series regulars.
At that point, the fifth season wasn’t revealed to be the concluding chapter of the series, but the news followed months later.
The show has done an admirable job of trying to keep many of the ousted series regulars in play as guest stars and recurring players.

The seventh and final season of S.W.A.T. has delivered plenty of dramatic moments, including a shocking murder attempt in the premiere.
More recently, Kenny Johnson’s Officer Dominique Luca’s fate was left up in the air after he was gunned down in one of the series’ most harrowing scenes to date.

Initially, we learned that he survived the attempt on his life, but following a multi-week time jump, Johnson’s final arc on the show kicked into high gear.

The promos for the CBS show seemed to indicate that his character, Officer Dominique Luca, was killed in the line of duty. That tease had fans buzzing about the death of a beloved character.
Johnson, an original series regular cast member, became a recurring heading into the drama’s current seventh and final season.
Worry not, fans. Although Luca sustained multiple gunshot wounds, he did survive the onslaught.
The bad news: a doctor’s phone call several weeks later said he had irreversible nerve damage from a wound to his shoulder. That meant he couldn’t pass the physical for duty.

Our colleagues over at sister site Soaps predicted this twist ages ago: Despite showing us the killing and the body, despite having EMTs call time of death and having the actress give exit interviews, The Bold and the Beautiful did not, in fact, bump off villainess Sheila Carter in February.

“I’m dead.” That’s what Kenny Johnson said when watching back the end of the last episode of S.W.A.T., which saw his character, Dominique Luca, shot multiple times, including in the chest. “There’s no way I survive that.” But Luca does survive, thanks to a bit of luck—the bullets missed everything vital—and the April 5 episode, Johnson’s last, jumps to three weeks later. And in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of “Last Call,” Hondo (Shemar Moore) welcomes Luca back to HQ. “Not quite yet, but damn if it doesn’t feel good to be back in this building,” Luca says. “This place ain’t the same without you,” Hondo says. Hondo, Luca, and Tan (David Lim) are all still shook by what happened. “It was you guys that helped me pull through it. Call me crazy, but I don’t think I would’ve made...

The news of CBS canceling S.W.A.T. was hard enough on the fans of the hit show and its stars. Now, the news is getting worse. It is possible one of the stars will be getting the ax before the alleged canceled show’s seventh and final season ends.
The Alleged Cancellation Of S.W.A.T.
Sadly, S.W.A.T. was one of the first television shows CBS decided to remove from its impressive lineup. Fans of the megahit show are not happy with the decision. They are hopeful it will not be canceled.
Shemar Moore is also hopeful. He is also not sure that the decision of CBS is their final decision. This could be true if fans of Shemar Moore and S.W.A.T. rally behind him and fight to keep the show going.

Ever since we learned that Kenny Johnson had been demoted to a recurring player for the seventh and final season of S.W.A.T., we’ve had concerns about how Dominique Luca’s story would end.
After spending five episodes on the bench, Johnson just made his first appearance in the final season, but could that be the end of his time on the show?
The stunning episode concluded with Luca witnessing a robbery in progress.
Once he got his adopted daughter Kelly to safety, he found himself in a potentially fatal situation when he got shot three times.
CBS aired a teaser for the next installment at the end of the episode, and it sure looks like we’re about to say goodbye to Luca for good.
We see Hondo (Shemar Moore) and several other characters at the hospital as they learn that he may not make it out of surgery alive.

CBS hit show S.W.A.T. is ending after seven seasons. What is the reason behind the shocking cancellation, and can the show be saved? Keep reading for all the latest details.
S.W.A.T. Ending With Season 7
Friday night timeslots are often the kiss of death for TV shows. But the police drama S.W.A.T. was always among the top ratings draw for its 8 Pm timeslot. So, fans were taken aback when the network abruptly canceled the show in 2023 after six seasons.
Actor Shemar Moore is among the core cast who have been on the show since the beginning. He publicly denounced the decision, speaking out on social media and during television appearances. With his support and fan outrage, the network reversed the cancellation just days later. But there was a catch.

We’ll be seeing more of Powell in the final season of S.W.A.T. Anna Enger Ritch, who has heavily recurred as the character since Season 5, has been promoted to series regular for the 7th and final season, Deadline has confirmed.
In the season 7 premiere, which airs February 16, the team heads to Mexico to escort a fugitive back to the States when things go awry and Hondo (Shemar Moore) has to save an old witness tied to the case.
Inspired by the television series and the feature film, S.W.A.T. stars Moore as a former Marine and locally born and raised S.W.A.T. sergeant tasked to run a specialized tactical unit that is the last stop in law enforcement in Los Angeles. Torn between loyalty to where he was raised and allegiance to his brothers in blue, Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson strives to bridge the divide between his two worlds.
