Mark Harmon wasn’t NCIS creator Don Bellisario’s first choice for the show. But Bellisario was quickly sold on Harmon after seeing the actor’s performance in The West Wing. His acting on the political drama even informed how Bellisario would end up writing Gibbs.

Harmon was being looked at for the potential lead role in NCIS from the beginning. Casting director Susan Bluestein remembered that a lot of big names were being floated around for the NCIS lead role. These included the likes of Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin and Clive Owen. But Bluestein was one of a few executives that had her heart set on Harmon.

NCIS gave fans memorable characters they’ll remember forever — but many of those fan favorites are known for their deaths. The show’s creators recently discussed the characters, actors, and storylines they worked with over the years. And they discussed one “shocking” death that came after the actor complained of long hours on set.
‘NCIS’ creators said actor Sasha Alexander didn’t want to work long, grueling hours
NCIS creators discussed the death of Sasha Alexander’s character, Caitlin Todd. Alexander appeared in the first two seasons of the series, but she was shot in the head in the season 2 finale by Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ archnemesis Ari Haswari.
Peter Golden, the former head of CBS casting, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about Alexander. “We were only able to make a deal with Sasha for two seasons,” he said. “She decided she wanted to move on to other things, and that...

NCIS fans eagerly await updates regarding season 21. While the Writers Guild of America strike paused the new season, writers are back in action to continue the story. However, one executive producer admits that he’s been “threatening to leave” the series for years. Here’s why.
Executive producer Charles Floyd Johnson says he was ‘threatening to leave’ ‘NCIS’ for years
NCIS has had numerous creators through the years, and executive producer Charles Floyd Johnson admitted that he was “threatening to leave” the series for years.
“I have been threatening to leave the show for a couple of years myself,” Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter. “A lot of people, including me, got force majeure’d this year, so my contract is ended. Everybody’s concerned about budgets and all this crazy stuff, so I may be just one of the casualties since I’ve been threatening to leave. So, I’m just waiting to see.

The CBS hit NCIS continues with season 21 in the near future, and fans can’t wait to see who returns. In the past, the show has unexpectedly killed off several characters. And one NCIS actor wasn’t happy about how his character was killed, according to creators.
‘NCIS’ creators said actor Muse Watson was ‘very unhappy’ about getting killed off in season 8
Since NCIS started in 2003, fans have seen several of their favorite characters leave. As much as we’d love to see most of the characters make it through every season, the actors have their reasons for calling it quits. And sometimes, it’s not up to the actors at all. Instead, the creators have their own plans that go against everything that actors hope for.

One of the most stunning moments in NCIS history came early on in the show’s run. In the season 2 finale, Sasha Alexander’s Agent Caitlin Todd was abruptly killed off. The character was shot in the head by a rogue Mossad officer named Ari Haswari (Rudolf Martin).
The shock death of a major character left NCIS fans reeling – and wondering why the show’s writers would kill off Agent Todd. In the past, Alexander has said that her departure was due to the show’s grueling workload. Once the show’s writers knew she wanted to leave, they decided to give her the most dramatic exit possible, insiders explained to The Hollywood Reporter in a recent oral history of the show.

NCIS hit a home run when they cast Cote de Pablo as Special Agent Ziva David in season 3. Pablo got the role after submitting a videotape audition, and the creators loved her from the start. Sadly for fans, Pablo left the series in 2013 before briefly reprising her role in seasons 16 and 17 in 2018 and 2019. At the time, she didn’t disclose why she initially left. But the executives gave a new reason fans might not have heard in the past.

‘NCIS’ Creators Considered a Lot of A-list Actor to Play Gibbs — From Alec Baldwin to Patrick Swayze
Fans of NCIS eagerly await season 21 updates, as we can’t wait to find out when the beloved series returns. Unfortunately, we don’t anticipate Mark Harmon’s character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, appearing. Harmon played Gibbs for 19 seasons before calling it quits. And before Harmon got the job, NCIS creators considered A-list stars to play Gibbs.

NCIS fans never wanted to see Mark Harmon leave the series as Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Harmon was a staple as Gibbs from season 1. And while the series left it open for his possible return, we have yet to hear of any concrete plans to bring him back. Oddly enough, after Harmon permanently left the series, NCIS showrunners didn’t remove him from the opening credits for nearly a year. Here’s why.
Why ‘NCIS’ didn’t remove Mark Harmon from the credit immediately
Mark Harmon played Leroy Jethro Gibbs in NCIS for 19 seasons before calling it quits. Fans adored the character and weren’t sure if the show would survive without him. And it seemed like NCIS showrunners also didn’t want to say goodbye to Gibbs straight away. It took them 11 months to remove Harmon from the opening credits of the show.
Fans likely remember how the show left Gibbs.

When Mark Harmon decided to leave NCIS after nearly two decades of work as Leroy Jethro Gibbs, fans were certain it was the end of the series. Harmon had become the show in many ways, and fans couldn’t see a path through the departure of the show’s guiding light. It worked out, though. Harmon walked away to look for other projects and spend time with his family, and NCIS continued. It might be surprising to learn that Harmon was one of many actors considered for the part of Gibbs when NCIS was in development. The casting team even discussed casting Harrison Ford of Star Wars and Indiana Jones fame in the role. A meeting probably never took place about the part, though.

For two decades, NCIS has been keeping viewers entertained with its signature mix of humor and high-stakes drama. The CBS series about a team of agents with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service premiered in 2023 and is heading into its 21st season (just as soon as the cast can get back to work). It’s also spawned multiple spinoffs, including a first-ever international version, NCIS: Sydney, debuting later this year. But the show – and by extension, the entire NCIS universe – could have looked very different if the series creators initially envisioned came to fruition.

Add in reports of behind-the-scenes workplace drama, and the situation becomes even more intriguing. Take CBS’s mega-hit NCIS. The long-running show has seen several major stars exit over its 20-season run. But none has generated as many headlines as Abby Sciuto actor Pauley Perrette’s 2017 decision not to return to the procedural drama.

Although NCIS was well-liked from the get-go, not even an elite investigation could have foreseen the show becoming a hit that would span decades and launch a franchise.
It began in spring 2003 as a backdoor pilot for CBS’ sturdy military-law procedural Jag. Co-created by Jag mastermind Donald P. Bellisario (Magnum, P.I., Quantum Leap) and Don McGill (Numbers, CSI), NCIS follows special agents from D.C.’s Naval Criminal Investigative Service, led by Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The show’s initial core cast included Michael Weatherly (Tony Dinozzo), Sasha Alexander (Caitlin Todd), Pauley Perrette (Abby Sciuto) and David McCallum (Ducky Mallard). Twenty years later, the series continues to thrive, as it stands as CBS’ No. 1 broadcast drama for five straight seasons and has launched four spinoffs, with the first international entry, NCIS: Sydney, debuting this fall on the network.

Executive Producer George Lucas dedicated over 23 years to Red Tails, patiently developing the script and seeking out a director who could bring his vision to life and deliver an adventure film of stirring heroics that have come to define the Lucasfilm moniker.

Will a war movie fly these days? Judging from the new trailer for Red Tails, I think the aerial combat movie with Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard stands a solid fighting chance.
Lucafilm’s Red Tails is described as a “high-flying action epic” that was inspired by the real life adventures of the first African-American combat squadron, who fought for the right to fight in the “real” war, rather than be resigned to just handling those missions the Us didn’t want any media attention on. The film, which stars Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Bryan Cranston, Brandon T. Jackson, and Nate Parker, is produced by George Lucas, Rick McCallum and Charles Floyd Johnson. Anthony Hemingway directs.

I’ve been with NCIS since ’05, when my dad walked into my room after the season two finale and said “you need to watch this.” I did, and since then have been hooked on the adventures of Gibbs and his ever-changing team. My love of the procedural genre has never been hidden, but NCIS is one that I love just a little more than the others, mostly because it’s one of the few that I get to enjoy with my dad every week…at least that’s what my phone bill says every 15 minutes between 8 and 9Pm every Tuesday. But my affection for the show has not blinded me to the fact that it hit a plateau around season five. It’s not that the show got bad in any way, but it stopped improving. Basically, it found its voice and decided that it was a good place to stay. And...

MTV have debuted a new high-action trailer and poster for Lucas Films’ Red Tails, the highly anticipated over two decades long passion project from producer George Lucas that unsurprisingly features some amazing aerial action sequences and visual effects but seems to fall down on character and dialogue. Lucas has been planning this movie since at least the late 7o’s (obviously the end sequence of Star Wars was shot his early version of a World War II combat assault) and is decades long realised, so the action had to be good.
The trailer also acts as a sort-of introduction to the Tuskegee Airmen and the trials and tribulations they faced throughout World War 2.

NBC, Universal Media Studios and Steve Carell's Carousel Television have signed House creator-executive producer David Shore to shepherd a remake of the classic 1974-80 crime drama The Rockford Files. Rockford, which earned the Emmy for drama series in 1978, starred James Garner as the title character, an ex-con private eye who lived in a trailer in Malibu. The series proved to be a training ground for a number of future TV heavyweights, including scribes David Chase (The Sopranos) and Chas. Floyd Johnson (Magnum P.I.) and actor Tom Selleck. Shore's just starting to think about an approach to bring The Rockford Files into the present day, but he intends to stick with the basic foundation of a private eye in L.A. just trying to make a living. The idea for a Rockford revival came from Carousel, which inquired about the rights to the Universal TV property after Carousel cut...
