Exclusive: Deadline has learned that a reboot of Blake Edwards hit 1979 comedy 10 is happening at Warner Bros. with Legally Blonde‘s Karen McCullah and Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith writing. Sue Kroll, through Kroll & Co. Entertainment’s exclusive deal at the Burbank, CA studio, will produce alongside Jeff Nathanson. Julie Andrews and Ashok Amritraj will serve as executive producers.
The original movie, which starred Edwards’ wife Julie Andrews, Dudley Moore and Bo Derek, followed a Hollywood composer going through a mid-life crisis who becomes infatuated with a newly married woman. 10 was a huge box office hit back in the day making close to $75M at the domestic box office.
The new project will take a comedic look at the question of what defines a “perfect 10” in today’s world. The new contemporary re-imagining will be inspired by the original film’s wit, humor and groundbreaking conversations around sexual politics.

Exclusive: Paramount Pictures has picked up Party Girls, an original pitch from the Legally Blonde screenwriting duo Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah, with Todd Garner attached to produce via his Broken Road Productions banner. Garner is the producer behind such films as Paul Blart: Mall Cop and its sequel, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, The Possession of Hannah Grace and Isn’t It Romantic.
Party Girls is a female ensemble comedy about a group of party girls from the Studio 54 era who reunite in the present day, now in their 70s, to continue the party.
Together, McCullah and Smith also co-wrote the screenplays for teen rom-coms 10 Things I Hate About You and She’s the Man as well as served as executive producers on The House Bunny and The Ugly Truth.

Exclusive: Wme has signed the screenwriting team of Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah, whose breakout came off the spec 10 Things I Hate About You and whose other credits include Legally Blonde, The Ugly Truth, The House Bunny and She’s The Man. They’ve established themselves as the go-to chicks for chick fare, and they are currently scripting The Expendabelles, the female spinoff of Millennium Films’ The Expendables franchise. They also scripted the romantic comedy The Panic Zone, which is out to cast. Smith has separately helmed two shorts sponsored by Glamour Magazine, both of which starred Anna Faris. She was also exec producer of Whip It! McCullah wrote and produced Crazy Kind Of Love, which opens May 31. Both are novelists. The scribes are leaving Paradigm as their longtime agent Lee Cohen becomes a consultant there. Jaret Entertainment’s Seth Jaret continues to manage them.

Script is a romantic comedy in which a recently jilted young computer scientist needs to impress her family by pretending that her humanoid artificial intelligence robot is actually her boyfriend. Code’s Al Corley, Bart Rosenblatt and Eugene Musso will produce with Content Engine’s Seth Jaret. Jonathan Dana’s exec producer with Magnet Management’s Zach Tann and Jennie Frisbie. The book is a high concept comedy about an elderly woman who wakes up in the body of her 29-year old self and finally has the chance to do things right. NEW DELHI -- Virgin Comics and Arnon Milchan's New Regency Prods. are teaming up to produce "Virulents", a feature based on Virgin's graphic novel, the companies said Friday.
Set in the Hindu Kush mountains after 9/11, "Virulents" follows a motley crew of American and Indian soldiers who must join forces as they rove the hills of Afghanistan in search of a lost platoon and missing weapons of mass destruction, but end up battling a demon-like menace whose origins lie in Indian mythology. John Moore ("Behind Enemy Lines") is directing.
20th Century Fox will handle worldwide distribution for the project, which may start filming next year, with possible locations in India.

Warner Bros. Pictures-based John Wells Prods. has optioned the script The Cold, with Mimi Leder attached to direct. Written by John Cox, Cold is a suspense thriller in the vein of Misery wherein a young woman rents a cabin by herself in the Sierra Nevada mountains and something supernatural interrupts her secluded winter getaway. John Wells, Leder's Yak-Yak Pictures and Cox's manager Seth Jaret will produce. The project was brought to JWP by Margaret French-Isaac, who ran Yak Yak until recently. JWP executive Laura Holstein is overseeing the project. Cox is repped by Agency for the Performing Arts, Jaret Entertainment and Stewart Brookman.
