We’ve got a ton of great titles on the docket for this final week of home media releases in August. Michael Dougherty’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters is hitting various formats on Tuesday, and if you’re looking for some oddball entertainment, The Banana Splits Movie should undoubtedly do the trick. For all you sci-fi fans out there, the classic V miniseries is finally making its way to Blu, and Scream Factory is also giving both The Leech Woman and Fear in the Night the HD treatment as well.

Hell Comes to Frogtown (1987)
Written by: Donald G. Jackson, Randall Frakes
Directed by: Donald G. Jackson
Cast: “Rowdy” Roddy Piper (Sam Hell), Sandahl Bergman (Spangle), William Smith (Captain Devlin), Cec Verrell (Centinella), Kristi Somers (Arabella), Rory Calhoun (Looney Tunes), Cliff Bemis (Leroy).
I don’t really know what to make of the name “Hell Comes to Frogtown”. I think it has served a dual purpose in being clever, and keeping me from seeing this film. The play on words is the clever part. Our hero’s name is Sam Hell, and guess what-he’s headed to Frogtown. Then again, it would be quite logical to assume that this could be a low budget Jim Henson film wannabe, and I guess it is. However, after I watched it, I’ve come to realize that it’s way more subversive than that. The two lead actors...

Also included in our latest round-up are Blu-ray release details and cover art for Troma's The Toxic Avenger: Part II and Class Of Nuke ’Em High 2: Subhumanoid Meltdown, as well as details on an upcoming auction of film props from make-up effects mastermind Rick Baker.
Stuck On You and Other Prime Cuts: "A word of caution gentle reader, these tales will take you places you’ve never been before and may never dare revisit. They’ll whisper truths so twisted you can only face them in the darkest hours of the night. They’ll unlock desires so decadent you’ll never wash their taint from your flesh.

Director: Donald G. Jackson, R.J. Kizer. Review: Adam Wing. Picture the scene. I was twelve years old at the time. Every Saturday night my dad would come home with a video from the rental store. He loved his action movies and I was introduced to the works of Stallone, Schwarzenegger and Seagal at a very young age. I couldn't get enough of film night and my love of action cinema came from there. One particular evening stands out to this day, it was the night my dad introduced us to Hell Comes to Frogtown. "What's it about then, Dad?" I enquired somewhat despondently. "Well it's about giant frogs taking over the world." I was disappointed. That was obvious. It sounded rubbish. Children don't disguise their feelings in the way that grown-ups do, so an air of unrest was inevitable as we gathered on the sofa to watch his latest acquisition.

Sixty years ago a team of radical, blacklisted filmmakers made Salt of the Earth, a powerful representation of the agency of Us workers. Sukhdev Sandhu celebrates a talisman of the American left
Demonised and hounded off screen on its release, Salt of the Earth, released in almost impossible circumstances 60 years ago, has a strong claim to being the most ambitious American film ever made. According to its director Herbert J Biberman and screenwriter Michael Wilson, it was the "first feature film ever made in [the Us] of labour, by labour, and for labour". More than that, it was "a film that does not tolerate minorities but celebrates their greatness".
Biberman, Wilson and producer Paul Jarrico had all been exiled from Hollywood for their politics. Biberman had worked in theatres in Moscow and co-founded the Hollywood Anti-Nazi League before being jailed for six months for refusing to testify before the House Committee on...

Two cinematic blasts from Hollywood’s not-too-distant Cold War-inspired past are re-packaged together as a post-apocalyptic tag team on this two-for-one offering, which was made available by the folks at Image Entertainment just a few weeks ago (release date December 13, 2011). Each feature on this single-sided disc comes with its own title screen, scene selections, and a theatrical trailer. The DVD itself plays a few other vintage trailers (C.H.U.D., anyone?) before the main film selection menu. Otherwise, it’s all a pretty bare bones affair. But with mega-blockbusters like these,...

And finally, Corey Haim and Patricia Arquette team up to take down a gang of rollerblading, drug dealing, white supremacists in the distopian cyber-punk action-drama Prayer of the Rollerboys from 1990.

The Gap Band bassist Robert Wilson has died after suffering a heart attack at the age of 53. Wilson's body was found by his adult son at his home in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 15 after his family became concerned when they were unable to contact him, according to his publicist and manager, Don Jackson.
The bassist formed The Gap Band with his older brothers Ronnie and Charlie Wilson in 1967, when he was just a teenager, in their hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. They scored hits in the late 1970s and '80s with singles such as "Yearning for Your Love", "Early in the Morning" and "You Dropped a Bomb on Me", and Wilson's musical prowess earned him the nickname the "Godfather of Bass Guitar".
His death comes just two weeks before he was due to headline the Timeless Music Festival event in Tulsa, which will now be turned into a memorial concert for the late star.
