HollywoodNews.com: Robert Baruc, President of Screen Media, announced today the acquisition of North American rights to “White Lion,” a live-action family adventure film about a rare white lion cub who rises above many challenges to become one of the most powerful and revered lions in all of Africa.
Directed by Michael Swan, the film features over 30 real-life lions trained by famed “lion whisperer” Kevin Richardson. Richardson also served as a producer.
“White Lion” was shot on location, at The Kingdom of the White Lion, an enterprise 50 miles outside of the city of Johannesburg, along the Crocodile River, established especially for this film. This marks the first production – entirely about lions – starring real lions from South Africa.
“White Lion” was the recipient of three South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) awards including Best Cinematography (Michael Swan), Best Music Composition (Phillip Miller) and Best Sound Design (Ivan Millborrow, Nicky De Beer...

I suppose I shouldn’t be too surprised by this. An idea takes off, people are bound to try capitalize on that idea for themselves. But this particular marketing strategy is one I feel may be taking it a bit too far.
Walking Distance, an indie horror film, has changed its name to Experimental Activity. Given the runaway success of this fall’s smash thriller Paranormal Activity, a film with a similar title may hope to see the same success on that factor alone.
Luckily, the title change of Experimental Activity does fit with the movie’s content, which focuses on a small town where a government medical experiment is taking place.
What makes the switch from Walking Distance to Experimental Activity appear to very obviously be money-making move is the fact of who is a part of the cast: Katie Featherston.

At least this time, having experienced Blair Witch mania ten years ago, we're prepared for the identical hoopla surrounding Paranormal Activity right now. There will come the spoofs, the knock-offs, the attempts to peg the two stars as nothing but the kids from Paranormal Activity. But then there's also this-- an attempt by the producers of star Katie Featherston's next film to actually tie their movie into the Paranormal phenomenon. In a move that either conveys extreme balls or extreme idiocy, the producers behind the indie horror movie Walking Distance have given it the new name Experimental Activity. Oh snap. Showcase Entertainment has picked up international rights for the film, and their president David Jackson told Variety, "Clearly having the fastest-rising star in the business is a feather in the cap, but we feel the film stands on its own as a cool psychological thriller." But it doesn't stand...

Just yesterday I contacted director Mel House to find out if Katie Featherston from Paranormal Activity was having any impact on his film Walking Distance, and it turns out she did. Showcase Entertainment has acquired the international rights to the film that has now been retitled Experimental Activity, a very obvious cash-in attempt on Paranormal Activity's success. Showcase president David Jackson said, "clearly having the fastest-rising star in the business is a feather in the cap, but we feel the film stands on its own as a cool psychological thriller." House shot Walking Distance before Activity became a huge hit, making it impossible for him to know how important casting Featherston would eventually be. Like many small horror directors House was originally relying on genre vets like Adrienne King, Reggie Bannister, and Debbie Rochon to help sell the film. Congratulations to Mel for catching a break, and hopefully he...

This news is genuinely surprising to us. According to The Hollywood Reporter, filmmaker Mel House's indie horror flick Walking Distance has undergone a title change just on the cusp of this week's Afm. It'll now be called Experimental Activity , no doubt to capitalize on the involvement of actress Katie Featherston, one of the two leads of Paranormal Activity . According to the post, Showcase Entertainment has acquired the international rights to Experimental Activity . "Clearly having the fastest-rising star in the business is a feather in the cap, but we feel the film stands on its own as a cool psychological thriller," Showcase president David Jackson said. This film also marks the return of actress Adrienne King in front of the camera, making this her first...

The success of Paranormal Activity was bound to change a lot of things. Who knew it would even lead to the change in film title for Mel House's Walking Distance?
According to The Hollywood Reporter Mel House's indie horror movie Walking Distance, which is currently in post-production, has undergone a title change to Experimental Activity, due in part we're sure to the fact that one of its actors, Katie Featherston, is now exploding thanks to Paranormal Activity.
Showcase Entertainment has acquired international rights to Experimental Activity, which revolves around a small town that is subject to a government medical experiment.

Only in Hollywood, sigh. The indie horror movie Walking Distance, currently in postproduction, has undergone a name change to Experimental Activity now that one of its actors, Katie Featherston, has gone on to star in the the current theatrical hit Paranormal Activity. It feels downright mean-spirited to gang up on an indie production just trying to get eyeballs on its hard work, but if there was ever a time to call shenanigans it's right now. According to The Hollywood Reporter, independent horror flick Walking Distance (which features Katie Featherston from Paranormal Activity) has changed its title to Experimental Activity. Seriously. I suppose a blatant grab for any sort of connection to a serious winner is probably not a terrible strategy for getting recognition (it's worked in making some news after all), but there's also the negative aspects of renaming: That's a stupid name. Now it sounds like an Asylum release trying to cash in on a big title. Wait, it's not an Asylum title, is it? The president of Showcase Entertainment, the company that purchased the film rights, had this money quote: Clearly having the fastest-rising star in the business is a feather in the cap, but...

Vows are being exchanged Monday on "You May Not Kiss the Bride" when production begins on the romantic comedy in Hawaii. Mena Suvari, Tia Carrere and Ken Davitian have joined Dave Annable, Vinnie Jones and Katharine McPhee in the cast.
Rob Hedden ("The Condemned") is directing from his own script, originally titled "Wedlocked," about an American pet photographer who gets mixed up with Croatian mobsters while on a honeymoon with one gangster's daughter.
Rann and Gina Watumull and David Jackson and Shauna Shapiro Jackson, co-founders of the Honolulu-based Hawaii Film Partners, are the film's producers.
Hawaii Film Partners is a film and TV production outfit designed to build a homegrown Hawaiian film industry. Its first projects were the Discovery Kids TV show "Flight 29 Down" and the original animated series "Guardians of the Power Masks." Although "Bride" is set in Chicago and Tahiti, it will be filmed entirely on location in Hawaii.

Vinnie Jones has some crimes to commit.
The "X-Men: The Last Stand" actor has signed for two upcoming films: the comedy "Wedlocked" and Universal's Joe Carnahan-produced prequel "Smokin' Aces: Blowback."
In "Wedlocked," Jones plays a Croatian mobster who attempts to kidnap his crush, who is on her honeymoon with the American man she married to get U.S. citizenship. Dave Annable and Katharine McPhee previously were cast in writer-director Rob Hedden's film.
Shauna and David Jackson and Rann and Gina Watumull are producing the independent feature.
In "Blowback," Jones plays an assassin gunning for a mob snitch who is hiding in Las Vegas. Tom Berenger, Clayne Crawford, Tommy Flanagan and Maury Sterling also will star in the film. P.J. Pesce is set to helm the direct-to-dvd release, which Mike Elliott is producing.
