Claus von Bulow, the socialite whose conviction and then sensational acquittal of the attempted murder of his wealthy wife was portrayed in the award-winning film “Reversal of Fortune,” has died. He was 92.
The Danish-born von Bulow died Saturday at his home in London, news reports said.
Von Bulow was found guilty in 1982 of trying to kill his wife, Martha (also known as Sunny), by injecting her with insulin. The heiress to a utilities fortune, Martha was discovered unconscious in the couple’s lavish home in Newport, R.I., in 1980, and fell into an irreversible coma. Prosecutors said von Bulow wanted his wife out of the way so that he could be with his mistress, soap opera actress Alexandra Isles.
Von Bulow was freed on $1 million bail, and a successful appeal by his defense attorney, renowned constitutional lawyer Alan Dershowitz, triggered a second, sensational trial that resulted in von Bulow’s...

Even immortal vampire Barnabas Collins himself would find it a Herculean task to wade through all 1,225 episodes of the original "Dark Shadows" TV series. To put it in perspective, a new complete coffin-shaped DVD box set boasts a runtime of 30,000 hours, and that's without bathroom breaks.
The supernatural soap opera, which ran on ABC from 1966 to 1971, is now getting the full-on feature film treatment. "Dark Shadows" (the movie) has all the big-budget trimmings courtesy of director Tim Burton and his muse Johnny Depp as Barnabas. Before you devour the May 11 release, we've created an easy-breezy introduction to all the things you'll find lurking in the "Shadows."
Welcome to Collinwood
Even though bloodsucker Barnabas is the everlasting icon of the show, he was not introduced until the 211th episode of the weekday soap. Up until that point the central character was a naïve young woman named Victoria Winters, a foundling with...

Sometimes a bloke doesn't have to go very far to hear what's going on in Hollywoodland - particularly when Hollywood comes to England, as Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, and Megan Fox (apparently) have done to shoot the cinematic version of cult sixties vampire TV show Dark Shadows. Though Eva Green remains the female lead in Burton's latest Gothic indulgence, La Fox was reported to be in the vicinity of England's leafy Hampshire over this last week of shooting just past. To boot, music-mad Depp is said to have been invading the stages of local pubs, where the usual assortment of local and guest bands have found themselves with an unexpectedly famous guest artiste to help them rock the evening away.
You can take this particular bit of tittle-tattle or leave it - it's simply something I heard of today from a colleague who spent the weekend in Hampshire talking to the locals,...

Eva Green, the lovely French actress who portrayed Vesper Lynd in the 2006 Bond film Casino Royale, is reportedly in talks to appear in the latest Johnny Depp/Tim Burton collaboration, a feature film version of 60’s cult gothic soap opera Dark Shadows. According to Deadline, Green is in negotiations to play Angelique, a witch who cursed Barnabas Collins (to be played by Depp) to an eternity as a vampire. Angelique was previously played by Lara Parker in the original program, and by Lysette Anthony in the revival. Her tormented former lover, vampire with a conscience Barnabas Collins, has been played by Jonathan Frid and Ben Cross (Sarek in the recent Star Trek reboot).
This comes on the heels of the news that Jackie Earle Haley (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Watchmen, Human Target) is in talks to play Willie Loomis, the drunken caretaker of Collinwood who unwittingly releases Barnabas from his crypt.

It’s time for the Dark Shadows update! Jackie Earle Haley and Bella Heathcote are in talks to join an upcoming Tim Burton’s project that already stars Johnny Depp.
Depp is already set to star as vampire Barnabas Collins and we know that the film is set to shoot early this year, but no other cast has been announced yet.
So, consider this as a big update!
“It’s exciting, very exciting. It’s like a lifelong dream for me. I loved the show when I was a kid. I was obsessed with Barnabas Collins. I have photographs of me holding Barnabas Collins posters when I was five or six. I’m very excited to do it,” Depp told earlier.

A couple more wanderers are finding their way to Collinwood Estate…
The world of the big-screen “Dark Shadows” adaptation is growing, as two others are now in talks to join Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s latest supernatural tale. Both Bella Heathcote and Jackie Earle Haley may soon find themselves in a run-down mansion that’s haunted in more ways than one, according to Deadline.
Heathcote, who’s appeared on the long-running Australian soap opera, “Neighbours,” and is one of many young actresses in the running for “Snow White and the Huntsman,” is currently the frontrunner to play Victoria Winters, the young governess of the Collins estate. The role was originated by Alexandra Moltke, who played the role on the TV series from 1966-1968.

Exclusive: I'm told that Jackie Earle Haley is in talks to play Willie Loomis in Dark Shadows, the Tim Burton-directed horror film for Warner Bros, based on the 60s TV soap that will star Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins. At the same time, sources say that Bella Heathcoate is the choice to play Victoria Winters, the young governess of the Collins estate. Heathcote was among the names mentioned for Snow White and the Huntsman, a role which Deadline told you exclusively now has Twilight Saga's Kristen Stewart as front runner. The Vicki role was originated by Alexandra Moltke on the original soap. As for Haley, the Loomis role was a pivotal one on the soap. Loomis is a notorious con artist who comes to Collinwood bent on swindling the reclusive matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard. He winds up living in the mansion and hatches a plan when he observes a...

According to Mike Fleming at Deadline, Haley is in talks to portray Willie Loomis. On the original 1960s soap opera, Willie (played by John Karlen) was the one who, while searching for priceless jewelery on the estate of Collinwood, came across a chained coffin and opened it, inadvertently freeing vampire Barnabas Collins (who had spent the past two centuries chained in it) on the modern world. Heathcote is being looked at for the role of Victoria Winters, portrayed originally by Alexandra Moltke on the series. In the beginning, the series centered around Victoria, though once Barnabas (played by Jonathan Frid then, Johnny Depp in the new movie)arrived on the scene he became the central focus. He did, however, look at Victoria as the reincarnation of his lost love Josette Du Pres and did everything he could to try and transform her into Josette.

Dominick Dunne. From PatrickMcMullan.com.Dominick Dunne’s son Griffin told a great story at his father’s funeral, in New York City, yesterday. Griffin said he’d been asked at Frank E. Campbell funeral home if he’d like to hire security to keep away the “professional mourners,” strangers who crash the wakes of celebrities. He said he immediately wished he’d been able to tell his father there was a name for this pastime—as Dominick himself had been known to drop in on the funeral home when he and his young family had lived nearby, long before he became a journalist, to see what famous mobster or socialite was lying inside. The crowd—almost 800 people packed inside the Church of Saint Vincent Ferrer, on Lexington and 66th Street—roared with laughter. If Dominick was a professional mourner, he was also a professional partygoer, stage manager, and social observer,...

Over the weekend we heard that so cialite Sunny von Bulow, 76, having lain in a coma 28 years, passed away. A once beautiful blonde, Sun ny's sun dimmed after being found unconscious in her Newport mansion. Her husband, Claus von Bulow, who had no fortune of his own, was first found guilty of attempted murder. A subsequent appeal acquitted him. The saga made international headlines in the '80s, and Hollywood even jazzed it up into a movie.
