You don’t have to be an expert on classic soul and R&b to recognize the American music monuments that emerged from Stax Records in the Sixties and Seventies. Sam & Dave’s “Soul Man,” Otis Redding’s “Respect” and “(Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay,” Isaac Hayes’ “Theme From Shaft,” and the Staple Singers’ “I’ll Take You There” — just a few of Stax’s greatest hits — made the case that the Memphis-based record company was the Southern version of Motown.
Whether anyone fully realizes that is another matter.

Even as segregation was at its peak in the American South, Stax Records helped Black and white artists come together to produce some of the biggest hits of their day. The Nxt Women’s Championship remains with “The Prodigy” Roxanne Perez as the champion retained her title in impressive fashion against both Lyra Valkyria and Tatum Paxley in a Triple Threat Match. When it comes to WWE, one of the most important positions beyond just those in the ring is the broadcast team. Those who call the action, tell the audience who the pro wrestling stars are and paint the picture of the stories being told. They essentially provide the soundtrack; the lyrics to the music. And Tuesday nights for Nxt that job goes to Vic Joseph and Hall of Famer Booker T. Together the dynamic duo set the stage for many emerging talent who have the potential to be in the main event of WrestleMania down the line and shape WWE’s future for years to come. Joseph started his career in CBS radio out of Cleveland where he’d interview his fair share of sports GOATs including LeBron James while honing his broadcasting skills working for independent wrestling promotions. He made it to WWE in 2017 where the 38-year-old found himself...

Dwayne Johnson has returned back to his roots. That is, back to wrestling.
After an immensely successful career in Hollywood as one of the wealthiest and most successful actors of all time, The Rock has returned to the exact profession that initially led to his fame. And, as expected, fans just couldn’t be more exhilarated about it all than they are now.
Dwayne Johnson in Black Adam.
But many are forgetting that this very return of his, which was notably widely anticipated in the wrestling world, had already been predicted a decade or so ago by the Brahman Bull’s very own rival back from the day, i.e. Booker T.

One day in 1979, the phone rang at producer Bob Weiss’ house. “Be on your property tonight,” said the voice on the other line. According to the book Wild and Crazy Guys: The Comedy Mavericks of the ’80s Changed Hollywood Forever by Nick de Semlyen, later that evening, an object came flying over the fence and onto Weiss’ backyard. It was the script for a Blues Brothers movie that Wiess commissioned from Dan Aykroyd, who created the musical comedy act with John Belushi for Saturday Night Live.
If the way that Aykroyd delivered the manuscript was odd, the contents inside were even weirder. Titled The Return of the Blues Brothers and credited to the “Scriptatron Gl-9000,” the script was 324 pages long, far more than the 120 page standard, and filled with unlikely digressions.

They made a legitimate claim to the classic rock throne in the 1970s, but Pink Floyd’s discography spanned decades. Many listeners misunderstood their biggest hit, and while the songs might be open to interpretation, the order of Pink Floyd’s albums is set and stone.
The five Pink Floyd members created 15 studio albums
Aside from a few early concerts, Pink Floyd only operated as a quartet. Still, the shadow of Syd Barrett loomed over the band for years, even after they moved on without him.
Barrett put Pink Floyd on the map as the singer, primary songwriter, and lead guitarist. He and bandmates Roger Waters (bass), Richard Wright (keyboards), and Nick Mason (drums) established themselves as the flagship band for psychedelic underground London in 1967. WWE 2K23 features quite a few improvements to the franchise formula that will certainly be welcomed by wrestling game fans everywhere. Of course, some things never change, which means that WWE 2K23 still makes you unlock quite a few wrestlers via gameplay accomplishments and by spending both real and virtual currency.
The very good news is that WWE 2K23 makes the various unlock processes fairly painless. The problem is that the game doesn’t always do a great job of telling you exactly how to unlock those wrestlers or the best way to go about acquiring all of them. Hopefully, we can help ease that part of the unlock system just a bit.

The Beatles’ John Lennon | Ivan Keeman / Contributor
John Lennon connected The Beatles‘ “Here Comes the Sun” to his own life. In addition, he contrasted it with George Harrison’s living situation. Notably, the song never hit the top 40 in the United States or the United Kingdom.
John Lennon said his move to the United States had nothing to do with taxes
During a 1980 interview with Rolling Stone, John discussed going to see an astrologer. “I remembered that astrologer in London telling me, ‘One day you’ll live abroad,'” he said. “Not because of taxes.

Welcome to this review of the Royal Rumble 2023, right here on Nerdly. I’m Phil Wheat and we have not only Two Rumble matches to look forward to but also a Bloodline main event that promises to bring things to a head with that long-running storyline! Let’s get into it.
Match #1: Men’s Royal Rumble – Winner: Cody Rhodes The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Before the match started, the surprises had already begun as Pat McAfee made his return to commentary, delightfully shocking Michael Cole. Fight Night kicked off the Men’s Rumble as Intercontinental Champion Gunther and his fierce rival Sheamus entered at No. 1 and 2, respectively. Not long after Sheamus scored the first elimination by Brogue Kicking The Miz (No. 3) into oblivion, he formed a match-long alliance with his good friend Drew McIntyre after The Scottish Warrior entered at No. 9. McIntyre got payback on Karrion Kross (No.

Give 2022 some credit—any year with Kate Bush crashing Top 40 radio can’t be all bad. So let’s celebrate a superbly crazy year for music, when brilliant tunes kept exploding all over the stylistic map. These are my 25 favorite songs of 2022. (Although many other gems are over on my albums list, to avoid duplicating all the same artists. Including, but not limited to: hits, flops, obscurities, pop kicks, rap hustlers, soul divas, guitar monsters, disco jams, reggaeton hipsters, punk rockers, alien superstars, and karaoke room-clearers. And Carly Rae Jepsen,...

Match #1: Bron Breakker def. Javier Bernal The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Javier Bernal’s mouth wrote a check that his big body had a hard time cashing against Bron Breakker. “Big Body Javy” tried to throw the first haymaker at the Nxt Champion, but Breakker hit his signature press and thunderous slam to put away Bernal. Breakker never took his eyes off Jd McDonagh throughout the match, and when Ilja Dragunov emerged all-out chaos erupted among the Halloween Havoc combatants.

If you've seen only a few David Lynch works, you've probably already picked up the man's love of music. It's not just that he'll have a song playing in the background to set the mood, but he'll often seem to pause the plot completely for the sake of the song. The most famous example might be in "Part 7" of "Twin Peaks: The Return," in which an unnamed character at the Roadhouse spends a full minute of screen-time calmly sweeping the floor, as "Green Onions" by Booker T. and the M.G.'s plays in the background.
It's a moment that frustrated and bewildered some fans. As often is...

Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s lost 2001 LP Toast is finally arriving July 8, and you can check out the track “Standing In The Light of Love” right now.
Young started Toast at Toast Studios in San Francisco in early 2001 shortly before he headed down to South America with Crazy Horse for a tour. “The back door opened onto an alley,” Young wrote last year on the Neil Young Archives. “It was so stuffy in there that we left the door open until one day we saw rats coming in and out.

The dilemma of a film like Stanley Nelson’s sweeping and emotionally-charged new documentary Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Historically Black Colleges and Universities is that any one of its rich stories — the founding of any Hbcu, the role they’ve played in the civil rights era, the role they play now as safe spaces for students of color arriving from high schools without students or teachers of color, the individual narratives of students that had attended or are attending them presently, the challenges faced by HBCUs today — could be its own stand-alone feature film. With that said, Tell Them We Are Rising is superbly crafted and in only 83 minutes provides an introduction to the history of HBCUs in America with interviews from students currently attending thriving schools like Spelman, Morehouse, and Howard.
Along the way, Nelson captures a certain irony as students struggle to liberate their...

As the Undertaker announces his retirement, we look back at his Wrestlemania record...
This article is from Den Of Geek Us.
WrestleMania XXX was an eventful show. It calmed the fears of those afraid that it would crash the WWE Network and cause major damage to the company's latest venture. Cesaro broke away from his tag team and broke out by winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Trophy. Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, and the Rock hung out in the ring and had a blast. Mr. T and Roddy Piper buried the hatchet. Daniel Bryan went through an endless supply of punishment before being defeating Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista.
That was a big moment and a major story, but the thing people will be talking about for a long time is the end of Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar. For the first time ever, Undertaker lost at...

WWE has released the information on the most popular shows currently airing on the WWE Network. With a subscriber number hovering at around 1.2 million, the network has introduced an impressive amount of original programming in its two-plus years of existence, although many feel that the company could be utilizing the service in a much more effective way.
The list of shows is interesting in the sense that it shows the enormous popularity of a new original series, confirms that Nxt is a strong selling point for subscribers and proves that the big events continue to amass interest among viewers. It also reaffirms WWE’s claims that the archive footage, while a huge attraction for hardcore fans, is among the least-viewed content available on the streaming service. It also highlights the effectiveness of the live stream for opening shows up to an audience.

In June, Wade Barrett will be done with WWE unless there’s drastic changes. He’s reportedly not happy with how he’s being pushed, and who could blame him? He has the look, the in-ring skills and the poise of a main event talent. Hell, the man Did main event mutliple pay-per-views in 2010. But that was six years ago, and his current incarnation as King Barrett means almost nothing to the company.
Unless there’s something big we don’t know about Barrett behind-the-scenes, then this is all on WWE. For a company starving for top stars, they’ve given him so many start-and-stop pushes that it’s maddening to watch, let alone live through. One topic that divides wrestling fans in 2016 is whether WWE should go back to a brand split or keep the roster together.
The first WWE brand split occurred in 2002 when WWF had hired a bunch of ex-wcw & Ecw stars along with the contracts they adopted from the 2001 WCW purchase.
Initially, the two rosters were positively stacked as Raw had Steve Austin, Booker T, The Undertaker and the nWo while SmackDown had Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Chris Benoit, Edge and Kurt Angle. The idea was for both shows to stay separate, except during pay-per-view events where there would be Raw matches and SmackDown matches and, in time, they could have inter-promotional ‘dream matches’.
Sadly, in the end it didn’t quite work out and the rules of the brand split were adhered to less and less as the years went by. Eventually in 2012, the two brands merged and the...

There are some things in this life that just seem to fit together perfectly: Peanut butter and jelly, fish and chips, Matthew McConaughey and not wearing shirts. It’s almost as if certain things are meant to be together, brought side-by-side with a little help from fate. Or Vince McMahon. Whichever.
Some of the most exciting and unusual moments in wrestling have sprouted from the tag team division. And some of those moments are so exciting because the tag teams involved are so unusual. There’s a rather storied history of kooky duos doing things together that nobody could have imagined.
And it can take a lot of trial and error before the truly stellar tag teams are formed. Not all great tandems come out of the womb that way (but good on ya, Hardy Boyz). Sometimes you have to mix-and-match several different combinations before you find the one that fits.

Over the course of four years, the Hardcore Championship changed hands 240 different times. That should tell you everything you need to know about the quality of this division.
To be fair, there were some legitimately terrific hardcore matches, and a few guys carried the title like pros. But for the most part, it was just a haphazard, silly little distraction from the real competition happening in the WWE. Maybe if they’d kept guys like Mick Foley involved (he was the first one to be awarded the belt, but only held it once before quickly ascending to main event status), the division would have stood a chance at legitimacy.
As it happened, the division was sometimes fun to watch in a “Why are they still allowing this ridiculousness to be televised?” sort of way, but that was about the extent of it. Most diehard fans viewed it as a gimmick title,...

This week’s New Year’s Eve edition of Smackdown marks the show’s final airing on SyFy before it moves to the USA Network, but if you thought that the WWE would be going all out for it, on a fluffy seasonal episode of the B-show no less, you thought dead wrong.
Smackdown naturally didn’t do much to capitalise on the fallout of this past week’s hysterical Raw episode, but it unexpectedly brought one angle to a close, and of course acted as a sound-board for King’s verbal diarrhea, which is always an uneasy mix of hilarious and embarrassing.
Booker T sounded like he was drunk on several occasions, the show was obviously edited in several sections, and a fan asked Dolph Ziggler the question we all want to know.

WWE 2K16 has already thrown up some stunning “what the f***” moments. In particular, the level of customisation in the game has opened up some truly wondrous possibilities for creative minded gamers.
But before exploring the madness, let’s summarise the reaction to the game so far. There’s definite problems with some of the graphics, but in other areas it looks spectacular. The inconsistency in visuals will annoy wrestling fans, but if you can look past the rough areas, there’s some beautiful graphics to be seen. Especially in the entrances!
As for gameplay, there’s features galore, and the new reversal system makes ring action smoother. There’s a better flow in matches. Overall, critics are giving it a positive reception.
So on the whole, a thumbs up, with some issues for WWE 2K17 to improve upon.

The waters were muddied further by his interference after the main event, in which he dragged WWE Champion Seth Rollins into a fiery hellhole. Those hoping for Smackdown to provide answers, prepare to be disappointed.
Instead we were given more Kane-based ambiguity, as well as a varied handful of matches – from spectacular high-flying efforts to uninspiring heavyweight encounters. Add a poorly-written divas segment, some comedic crowd interaction, and Booker T’s insane commentary into the mix, and we’ve got the perfect recipe for some ‘Wtf’ mayhem.
Here are 17 funny, impressive, or otherwise baffling moments from this week’s Smackdown.

Night of Champions 2015 certainly had one of the best on-paper cards for a WWE pay-per-view in quite some time, and it’s a pleasant surprise to report that the show was in fact one of the company’s most consistent events in a long time.
Sure, not every match was amazing and there were more than a few questionable finishes, but the standard of the wrestling itself was very solid throughout, with occasional flecks of brilliance. In short, not a single match sucked, which for a WWE PPV is extremely rare.
The higher standard of wrestling didn’t make the show any less oddball than ever, though: the usual commentating gaffes, bizarre choices of wardrobe, hilarious botches and outrageous fans all appeared in spades, and ensured that the show will stand tall as one of the more memorable NoC shows of recent years.

What has been billed as the final batch of Superstars for WWE 2K16 has been confirmed this afternoon.
Here are the names in full: Bray Wyatt, Mikey Whipwreck, The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods & Big E), Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady, Stunning Steve Austin, Superstar Steve Austin, Rusev, American Bad Ass Undertaker, Baron Corbin, Brian Pillman, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Konnor, Viktor, Mark Henry, Ministry Undertaker, Ricky Steamboat, Savio Vega, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, Sting ’99, Sting Blonde and finally the two Terminator renders.
The new names show how in-depth the Stone Cold mode will be. It looks like we’re going to be travelling right through his days as a Hollywood Blonde with Brian Pillman and that feud with Ricky Steamboat, stopping off for a cup of coffee in Ecw to feud with Mikey Whipwreck (and maybe Sandman?), and then going through his main run in WWE, including the 2001 Royal Rumble.

Kevin Nash has apologised for an image of a naked woman that was posted on his Twitter account on Saturday.
The image in question features a brunette woman posing naked on a bed with her ‘private area’ fully exposed. While the photo was deleted from his account not to soon after it was posted, it remains visible on WWE.com’s profile page on Nash where his most recent tweets are displayed at the time of writing.
The image could land Nash in hot water with the WWE as he is currently four years into a five-year Legend’s contract. There’s every chance that he will receive nothing more than a slap on the wrists and told to make sure nothing like this happens again, although due to the nature of the image it also wouldn’t be a surprise to see his case dealt with more severely.
