I am a fan of Judy Holliday and I often wonder why NO ONE I mention her to really knows who this really great actress was. Maybe it's the fact that she was here for such a short time and passed away more then fourty years ago. Whatever the reason, Holliday was really wonderful.
I was recently watching "The Simpsons" (a show I am addicted to) and noticed that on more than one episode Mayor Quimby escorts a mistress (blond with the funny voice)around town who oddly enough bares a vocal familiarity to Holliday. I mentioned this to friends also, but they didn't get the reference. Perhaps someone from this site knows the show and the character. I think Quimby's girlfriend is a Matt Groening tribute to Judy Holliday. The character could have also been the creation of John Swartzwelder, the famous "elusive" thinktank for the show. Some of the writers comment on the fact that he added a lot of "old-timey" references to the show when he wrote for "The Simpsons" a while back. Whatever the means or motive, I think "The Simpsons" have one of the few "in joke" tributes to this wonderful actress. Judy Holliday lives on.
