Created the BBC soap "Eldorado" in 1992. The show endured scathing reviews which badly damaged Tony's career. He later wrote for the Swedish soap opera "Snoken" and received a special achievement award at the British Soap Awards in 2002.
As a soap writer, he became closely associated with producer/director Julia Smith. She died in 1997.
Began on TV in the 1960s as an actor, and then in 1970 made a permanent career change, as writer and script editor on the series Z Cars (1962).
