  • The husky, darkly handsome actor who bore a slight resemblance to Clark Gable appeared in a number of leading man roles on Broadway, notably opposite Lenore Ulric in "Pagan Lady".
  • His marriage to second wife Greta Nissen was annulled on the grounds that their Mexican marriage in Tijuana was not legal.
  • According to author Laura Wagner in her Films of the Golden Age article on Weldon (Winter 2015/2016 issue), the actor, in his early stage career, tried to pass himself off as the nephew of U.S. Senator Weldon Heyburn (1852-1912) to gain publicity. The Senator's family claimed he was a fraud and exposed his lie.
  • A drinking problem effectively ended his career in the mid-'40s and his health rapidly declined. He entered the Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles suffering from cancer of the mouth, right adrenal and kidney and died there of pneumonia.
