Sullivan's Crossing premiered earlier this month on The CW, and the Canadian import has been delivering vintage small-town drama since.
Sullivan's Crossing Season 1 Episode 2, which aired this week, ended with quite the shocker in the form of Andrew (Allan Hawco) arriving in town.
Before that, Cal (Chad Michael Murray) walked Maggie (Morgan Kohan) home after drinks at the bar.
The scene found Andrew threatened by Cal walking his girlfriend home, so naturally, my first question to series creator Roma Roth was: How threatened should Andrew be?
"Well, [Cal] is played by Chad Michael Murray," Roth shared with a laugh, adding, "So I think very, but I also think Andrew has his own baggage he's carrying around from a divorce."
Roth says that Andrew was feeling threatened before he even arrived in town because he was struggling with the fact that his girlfriend fled Boston.

Shudder survival thriller Quicksand builds an entire premise around its namesake, leaving a bickering, estranged married couple trapped in a pit of despair. Director Andrés Beltrán and writer Matt Pitts approach the B-movie concept with a seriousness that nearly works for their efficient thriller, placing relevance on the emotional stakes for its leads over jungle thrills. It leaves the thrills underplotted in Quicksand, however.
An opening sequence introduces the unforgiving terrain; a pair of poachers prowl a dangerous area of the Colombian jungle called Las Arenas to hunt and retrieve valuable skin from a venomous snake. Cut to couple Josh (Allan Hawco) and his wife Sofia (Carolina Gaitán) as they head to a medical conference in Bogotá; but the car ride there is rife with friction despite Josh’s best efforts to diffuse the tension. The estranged couple is gearing up for divorce, making this business trip even more uncomfortable.

With its lead characters lodged up to their shoulders in gunk for most of its running time, Andres Beltran’s self-serious B-movie has nowhere to go
This low-budget thriller takes brave strides for the representation of quicksand, still seen sucking people to their doom well into the early 21st century in the likes of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. This, apparently, is a fallacy; contrary to quicksand’s reputation among 12-year-olds as the most feared method of improbable death, you can’t sink all the way in. As unfortunate American hiker Josh (Allan Hawco) points out: “The weight of the mud’s density is heavier than the human body.” He must be feeling pretty confident, because he jumps in to save his wife Sofia (Carolina Gaitan).
Actually, what we have on our hands is more of a bog. So “Quagmire” might have been a better title.

The Breach, not to be confused with Breach, is the second feature from Rue Morgue founding editor Rodrigo Gudiño (The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh). Co-written by Nick Cutter and Ian Weir based on Cutter’s novel, its mix of haunted house and mad scientist themes attracted a lot of pre-release buzz which I was hoping it would live up to.
John Hawkins has one week left as sheriff of Lone Crow. Then he can put the town, and his ex Meg, behind him and start a new job in the city. That, of course, means something terrible has to happen before he can leave. And it does when a canoe bearing the mutilated remains of theoretical physicist Cole Parsons washes up at a local park.

The Guns N’ Roses guitarist co-produces this retro chiller that serves up a corpse, alternate dimensions and an implausible plot
Slash from Guns N’ Roses is one of the producers of this throwback low-budget Canadian horror – and he makes his presence felt on the opening credits with a track that is the cinematic equivalent of playing a screeching guitar solo outside your Glastonbury tent at 6am. Subtle it is not. But possibly spot on for a movie that feels like a blast of 80s nostalgia, paying homage to the era’s nastily effective cheap scary movies.
It begins like a Stephen King novel, in the sleepy town of Lone Crow, where a badly mutilated body drifts in on a canoe. “Where’d the bones go?” marvels sheriff John Hawkins (Allan Hawco), who is days away from a promotion and upping sticks to the big smoke. A driving licence identifies the corpse as Dr Cole Parsons,...

"No one's coming for us." Shudder has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror film titled Quicksand, made by Colombian filmmaker Andrés Beltrán. It's set to debut on Shudder starting in July for anyone who wants to watch. "Get ready to witness a gripping fight for survival and love as a hike through a Colombian rainforest takes a turn." While on a hike in Colombia, an America couple get stuck in quicksand. Unable to move, it becomes a struggle for survival, as they battle the elements of the jungle and a venomous snake, in order to escape to safety. Starring Carolina Gaitàn and Allan Hawco, along with Andrés Castañeda and Sebastian Eslava. It's funny that it took them so long to finally make a horror movie about quicksand, it was always one of those crazy things you talk about while growing up but never actually encounter in real life.

Hold The Fort, Coming Soon to Kickstarter, Casts Julian Smith: "Lucas and Jenny are getting settled in their new home when Jerry Klein, the Hoa president, knocks on their door. He invites them to the neighborhood's annual “Equinox Party.” Ready to embrace suburban life, Lucas excitedly accepts.
But this is no ordinary party...A banner hangs at the clubhouse's entrance: Welcome to the Equinox. Please don't die. There are talks of a portal to hell, dangerous mythical creatures, copious amounts of Moonshine, and a legendary gun wielding hero, McScruffy.
Lucas, thinking this is all a joke, hesitantly mingles with the other party guests when the inevitable happens.

Remember quicksand? Movies back in the day probably made you terrified of being sucked down into a patch while walking in the woods, but there’s a good chance you never actually ended up encountering any quicksand in real life. That’s a good thing, of course. But the characters in the upcoming survival thriller Quicksand, you may have guessed, aren’t so lucky.
Deadline reports that Shudder has acquired Quicksand, the premiere set for June 23.
“The English-language Colombian film written by Matt Pitts (Westworld) and directed by Andrés Beltrán (Tarumama) will also be available for streaming on AMC+ in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand,” Deadline notes in today’s report.
“Quicksand stars Carolina Gaitán (Encanto) and Allan Hawco (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) as an American couple on the brink of divorce who travel to the country for a work conference. While on a hike through the rainforest,...

Exclusive: Canadian comedy Son of a Critch is establishing itself as a mainstay of CBC’s schedule as it is greenlit for a third season before the second has finished airing.
CBC said Season 2, which finishes next week, is the pubcaster’s most-watched English Canadian comedy series and most-watched show with 18-49 year olds.
The series is produced by Schitt’s Creek’s Andrew Barnsley and created by Mark Critch, who plays a fictionalized version of himself based on his award-winning memoir, with The Office scribe Tim McAuliffe.
The show tells the story of 11-year-old Mark coming of age in St. John’s, Newfoundland in the ’80s, a boy much older inside than his 11 years – using comedy and self-deprecation to win friends and connect with the small collection of people in his limited world.
Filming begins on Season 3 in Newfoundland this summer.

Stars: Allan Hawco, Emily Alatalo, Adam Kenneth Wilson, Wesley French, Natalie Brown, Mary Antonini, Alex Lifeson | Written by Nick Cutter, Ian Weir | Directed by Rodrigo Gudiño
Making its world premiere at Fantasia, The Breach, not to be confused with Breach, is the second feature from Rue Morgue founding editor Rodrigo Gudiño (The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh).

A police captain in his last days on the job gets sent on a mind-bending journey when a boat carrying a horrendously mutilated corpse ruins a family picnic in Rodrigo Gudiño’s latest horror story, The Breach. Based on the Audible original book of the same name by Nick Cutter, The Breach is a full-on goo-fest with atmosphere to spare. Gudiño’s second feature after 2012’s The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh, The Breach is a solid entry into the cosmic horror genre with a few neat tricks up its sleeve. John Hawkins (Allan Hawco) is ready to leave Lone Crow. The town’s longtime police chief has a messy romantic history in this small rural town and is eager to dash off to the big...
