Coronation Street (1960) was written out (he was killed in an armed robbery on the factory where he worked) because Hancock was unwilling to renew his contract on a point of principle because minor cast members were paid only for the episodes in which they appeared whereas several long-term cast members were paid for all episodes, even if they did not appear in them.
