The Cairo International Film festival has postponed its 2023 showcase in the wake of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, the organization announced Wednesday. The 45th edition of the showcase was originally supposed to take place from November 15-24.
Egypt’s Minister of Culture Dr. Neeven El-Kelany was the one who decided on the postponement, according to a post from the festival on Instagram. At the moment it’s unknown when the festival will be rescheduled.
Though there is currently no reason given for this postponement, it comes a day after an attack on Gaza City’s al-Ahli Arab Hospital. Following the attack from Hamas on Oct. 7 and Israel’s backlash against the militant group, the hospital became a haven for many injured and displaced Palestinians. On Tuesday, the hospital was attacked by an airstrike. The Gaza civil defense said that more than 300 people were killed in the blast. Both Israel and Hamas...

Israel-Hamas Conflict
Shock and horror: It’s hard to know where to begin with the tragedy unfolding in the Middle East. Thousands have died since a Hamas-led militia crossed the Gaza Strip border and began attacking Israeli villages and kibbutzes. There’s no end to the conflict in sight, with Israel now blockading Gaza and ordering Gaza City residents to evacuate, while there is growing international concern about the safety of Palestinian citizens who will soon be devoid of food, water and fuel. The history of the conflict runs deep and this isn’t the forum to discuss it, beyond believing that violence cannot be the answer. Like the rest of the world,...

Amid breaking news coverage of the attacks on Israel, Fremantle has decided against bringing the Australian satirical comedy C*A*U*G*H*T, which stars and is executive produced by Sean Penn, to MIPCOM for promotion and international sales amid the expanding conflict with the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas.
“In light of the current situation unfolding in Israel, we have taken the decision not to showcase C*A*U*G*H*T at MIPCOM this year. At this time, our hearts and thoughts are with our colleagues and our partners in Israel, and all those affected,” a Fremantle spokesperson said on Tuesday.
The Stan original comedy follows four Australian soldiers who are sent on a secret mission to a war-torn country. Mistaken for Americans, they are captured by freedom fighters and appear in a hostage video that goes viral.

Sean Penn, whose Volodymyr Zelenskyy documentary “Superpower” recently launched on Paramount+, will be on the iconic stage of Cannes’s Grand Auditorium later this month — but it won’t be for a movie.
The Oscar winner is set to attend Mipcom, the international TV conference, alongside Matthew Fox (“Lost”) and Kick Gurry (“Edge of Tomorrow”) to discuss their wartime satire series “C*A*U*G*H*T” as part of a Media Mastermind Keynote on Oct. 18. There’s nothing quite like having an Oscar-winning actor in your corner, or perhaps a star of one of the biggest TV Series of all time. In the case of Kick Gurry, creator, producer and actor in the forthcoming Stan Original Series “Caught,” the backing of Sean Penn and Matthew Fox has undoubtedly been a boon.
After Gurry shared an early teaser of the show crafted with friends in Australia, Penn’s reaction was music to his ears. As Gurry shared with Variety, “He said everyone’s afraid of stories right now and we have to be pushing forward with courage in storytelling.”
Indeed, the courage to tell bold, new stories has resulted in an audacious six-episode satirical comedy series slated to premiere later in 2023. The series boasts a formidable cast that Gurry describes as a “murderer’s row of talent.” Among them, Sean Penn, who also serves as an executive producer,...

Ben O’Toole.
After graduating from Waapa in 2011, Ben O’Toole played policeman Pete for three seasons of Love Child, had supporting roles in The Water Diviner and Hacksaw Ridge and co-starred in the Us movies Detroit and 12 Strong.
The Brisbane-born actor plays the leads in Alister Grierson’s comedic thriller Bloody Hell and in Kiah Roache-Turner’s horror-comedy Nekrotronic, yet he is far from satisfied with where he is at in his career.
“I still have a lot more to learn; I have much further to go,” says O’Toole, who has bases in Sydney and Los Angeles, the latter with actor-director housemate Kick Gurry.
Working with Mel Gibson on Hacksaw Ridge and with Chris Hemsworth on 12 Strong were great learning experiences.
“Mel was incredible and very powerful in communicating what he wanted us to do, and he encouraged Vince Vaughn and me to improvise,” he says.

This is a little bit like reporting water is wet, but it is official. Kyra Sedgwick's Ten Days in the Valley TV show has been cancelled by ABC. It's no mystery why there will be no second season for the TV series. After introducing it on October 1, 2017, the network pulled Ten Days in the Valley from the air before the end of the month, only to bring it back on Saturdays -- in December. It's been cancelled for a while, now. The Alphabet Network has just finally admitted the truth. That is the first step, on the road to recovery. An ABC mystery drama, Ten Days in the Valley stars Sedgwick as TV producer Jane Sadler. Since her bitter separation from husband Pete (Kick Gurry), Jane has felt the drain of her demanding life. Kyra Sedgwick’s return to primetime didn’t stick. ABC today officially canceled the freshman drama Ten Days in the Valley. The network said the remaining episodes will air.
The underperforming drama series premiered October 1 with a soft 0.5 in adults 18-48 and 3.4 million total viewers (Live+Same Day). It drew a 0.4 in the demo for its last three Sunday airings before being moved to 10 Pm Saturdays in late October.
Hailing from Skydance Television, Ten Days In the Valley followed Jane Sadler (Sedgwick), an overworked television producer and single mother in the middle of a fractious separation. When her young daughter goes missing in the middle of the night, Jane’s world — and her controversial police series — implodes. Life imitates art: everything’s a mystery, everyone has a secret, and no one can be trusted. Erika Christensen, Felix Solis and Kick Gurry co-starred.

One of the cardinal sins a TV drama can commit is showing its audience how hard it’s trying. Sometimes that ends up as a symptom of a series desperately trying to dress up a simple premise with some overly aggressive trappings. That’s not necessarily the case for ABC’s “Ten Days in the Valley,” a new 10-part limited series with a meta-conceit and enough inherent drama to keep audiences hooked.
Where the show falters at regular intervals is by packing its character list with a bevy of competing allegiances and extreme shifts that only makes the show’s self-awareness more frustrating. Somewhere near “Scandal” by way of “Murder She Wrote,” it’s never quite as interesting as the sum of its parts, stuck in a pedestrian execution of a crime paperback setup.

There’s a new genre in town, and since the premiere of titles like Broadchurch, it doesn’t seem like we can kick them out fast enough. Several failed efforts have hit over the last few years, and Ten Days in the Valley is the latest version of overdramatizing that genre offered up to American audiences. Ten Days is part emotion porn and part “everyone dunnit,” though it certainly isn’t unique in its model of having a crime of some sort reveal everyone’s dirty laundry. Once the police start poking around, it turns out that everyone has something to hide, and as long as we can gasp about something, it must be worth watching.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is a black man and an actor. Malcolm-Jamal Warner is too. They are not the same person, however. Late in the day Sunday during the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, one writer in the Beverly Hilton International Ballroom made a pretty bad faux pas while ABC’s “Ten Days in the Valley” panel was up on stage. This whole thing requires a bit of setup — Showrunner Tassie Cameron, Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kyra Sedgwick, Kick Gurry and Erika Christensen were in the house, representing their new limited series on the broadcast network. While Warner is in the cast, he was not in attendance today.

Since Jupiter Ascending.s world premiere at Sundance the sci-fi action-adventure and writers-directors Andy and Lana Wachowski have been pilloried by most critics and the production is shaping as a costly write-off for Warner Bros and Village Roadshow Pictures.

Anybody who has played computer games (and who hasn’t?) knows how useful the restart option is, or the more annoying forced respawn from death. To die at a tricky part of the level and just be able to restart at a checkpoint or recently saved position helps you adapt your strategy and retry what you did wrong, till you finally make it past that tough part and reach the end of the level. This is exactly what Tom Cruise has the ability to do in Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow.
Tom Cruise plays Major William Cage, an arrogant PR man for the human war machine fighting against the alien invasion that has overtaken most of Europe.

Full cast + crew There's one movie every summer blockbuster season that seems like it should have been a bigger deal. Warner Bros. Pictures released their new Tom Cruise branded, Sci-Fi/thriller flick, "Edge Of Tomorrow" into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out, and thought it was absolutely great. The plotline was super intriguing from beginning to end. It offered up a plethora of hardcore, nonstop action and drama. It stars: Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Jeremy Piven, Ciaran Hinds, Noah Taylor, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, Franz Drameh, Masayoshi Haneda, and Tony Way. In the new flick, the world has been battling an alien species, called the Mimics, for the past 5 years. Nato militaries have federated to create the United Defense Forces (Udf), with defeats escalating as the war continues. As the Mimics tighten their grip on Europe, the introduction of armed mechanized exoskeletons ,called Jackets, allows the Udf to achieve a decisive victory at Verdun.
