Johnny Griffin was born on April 24, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He was an actor, known for Spoiled Children (1977), Jazzorama (1964) and Jazz Is Our Religion (1972). He was married to Miriam Verhaar and Joan. He died on July 25, 2008 in Availles-Limouzine, Vienne, France.
Great tenor saxophonist nicknamed the "little giant" because of his height and the fact that he could play with the best, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane and Art Blakey.
Taught, at Chicago's DuSable High School, by Captain Walter Dyett, whose pupils included Nat "King" Cole and Dinah Washington.
