Sold more than 25 million records as a singer of popular German songs
such as "Speedy Gonzales" (1962), "Fiesta Mexicana" (1972) and "Der
letzte Sirtaki" (1975, The last sirtaki).
Attended acting lessons at the Otto-Falckenburg-Schule in
Munich.
Fifth and youngest child of a Munich salesman.
Although marrying his cousin Marion in 1974, he was gay and lived
together with several boyfriends. After his suicide, he was buried next
to his former longtime companion Fred Miekley.
In the 1960s, he built the very popular duo "Gitte & Rex" with Danish
singer Gitte Hænning.
