Image source: Amazon Be honest: Did you secretly watch Grease 2 a million times as a kid? Because even though it was kind of panned back in the day, there’s something about it, right? That Michelle Pfeiffer energy, the out-there songs… it’s weirdly lovable. Why Grease 2 Exists Is a Whole Story… Grease was a total accident hit! The sequel was a quick cash grab, and, well, the original stars weren’t interested. But, early Michelle Pfeiffer is pure magic, even if the script isn’t. Cool Rider – Masterpiece or Trainwreck? You either get totally hooked on this song, or it makes you cringe. What’s your take? The soundtrack throws 50s sounds at you, then pure 80s beats. It’s a mess, but kind of unforgettable. Turns Out, it Was Almost Even Weirder! Imagine this: Andy Gibb as the lead, , even Cher almost had a role! Stuff didn’t work out,...

Critics: we can’t live with them, we can’t live without them. The Rolling Stones‘ Mick Jagger felt journalists were more interested in dissecting The Beatles than Elvis Presley. Here’s why he was right.
The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger contrasted The Beatles with William Shakespeare
During a 1994 interview with Hot Press, Jagger discussed how critics reacted to the Fab Four. “The first time was when there was serious music analysis of The Beatles,” he said.” It had never happened before.
No one had ever done it to Elvis. Then, when The Beatles come along, people — journalists and serious newspapers especially in England — started it all off. They started analyzing.”
Jagger said The Beatles initiated a sea change. “From then, it became analysis of popular culture; analysis of popular art and fashion,” he said. “And from then on, it’s never stopped. It’s very immediate now too. Shakespeare...

Titled Joe Cocker: With a Lot of Help from His Friends, the book is by the rock’n’roll biographer, Mark Bego, and will be the first crack at telling Cocker’s story since his death in 2014, following his rise in the late ‘60s, his internal struggles, and the peace he ultimately found. Cocker is perhaps best remembered for his 1968 rendition of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends,” which became a No. 1 hit on the UK Singles Chart when it debuted. The following year, his version of the song was cemented into the zeitgeist of the ‘60s thanks...

Jerry Bowles and David O’Malley penned the script for the project, with Lisa Saltzman set to produce.
An Irish-born American working at various points as a dressmaker and schoolteacher, Jones pivoted her focus to union and community organizing and activism after experiencing two major, personal tragedies: the death of her husband and four children from yellow fever in 1867 Memphis, and the destruction of her dress shop in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The impassioned figure would come to be known as “the most dangerous woman in America” while working to secure rights for mine workers and ban child labor.

In HBO’s The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, director Frank Marshall follows Barry Gibb — the sole surviving member of the Bee Gees, the immensely popular trio that included his brothers Robin and Maurice Gibb — as he reflects on his family history and their ascent into pop stardom. (The trio’s youngest brother, Andy Gibb, was a best-selling solo artist before his death at age 30 in 1988.) While most might think of the Bee Gees solely as the band behind the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack — emblematic of disco’s most frivolous elements ...

Foo Fighters have released a trippy animated music video for their song “Chasing Birds,” from the band’s latest album Medicine at Midnight.
The visual builds off of the song’s first lyric (“Chasing birds to get high/My head is in the clouds”) by depicting Dave Grohl and the rest of the Foos going on a long, strange trip in the desert. After having some fun with the colorful, psychedelic imagery around them, Foo Fighters find themselves entrapped in a dark, spooky cavern — the video’s version of hell as mentioned in the song.

Soleil Moon Frye became the ultimate Eighties child star on Punky Brewster, at the age of seven. She played America’s favorite wise-cracking moppet, wearing mismatched high-tops and extolling the virtues of Punky Power. The show was eventually cancelled in 1988 — and that’s when Frye started toting a video camera around, filming her other child-star friends, just in time for their awkward teen years. Kid 90, a new documentary that begins streaming on Hulu today, turns her home-movie footage into a time capsule of show-biz kids growing up in Nineties Hollywood.

For the second time in two months, Foo Fighters covered a Gibb brothers’ classic as the band performed Andy Gibb’s “Shadow Dancing” during Saturday’s Rock-n-Relief livestream.
After Foo Fighters opened their two-song set with Medicine at Midnight’s “Making a Fire,” the lights turned down and the soundstage suddenly transformed into a discotheque, with drummer Taylor Hawkins and the band’s trio of backup singers sharing vocals on the funky and faithful take on the 1978 smash single.

Since its release earlier this month, the HBO documentary “The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” has reignited interest in the ’70s disco group. But the band’s sole surviving member, Barry Gibb, admitted he’s only watched parts of the film because he “can’t handle it.”
“I can’t handle watching the rest of my family,” the 74-year-old musician told Anthony Mason in an interview airing Jan. 3 on “CBS Sunday Morning.” “I just can’t handle it. Who would, you know? I think it’s perfectly normal to not want to see how each brother was lost, you know? And I don’t want to address it. I’m past it.”

Frank Marshall, director of HBO Max’s new documentary “The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,’ believes one way for Barry Gibb to mend his own broken heart was getting the chance to tell the inside story of the other two Bee Gees, his late younger twin brothers, Robin and Maurice Gibb. “You know he obviously misses his brothers immensely, he’s the oldest,” Marshall told TheWrap, adding that the surviving Gibb brother’s participation seemed to be cathartic for the British singer. “He also wants to celebrate the legacy. I think he wants people to know the story. A lot of people think they just did ‘Saturday Night Fever.’ “ Producer Nigel Sinclair agreed, saying the brothers should not be thought of as disco artists only because of the whopping success of the “Saturday Night Fever,” which remains the second largest soundtrack album of all time with...

Exclusive: Paramount Pictures is teaming with upstart producer-financier Sister and Bohemian Rhapsody producer Graham King to mount a movie about the Bee Gees, the trio whose worldwide sales of more than 220 million records established them as one of the biggest-selling groups of all time. While Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb first began performing together in the late 1950s, much of their popularity came after they wrote songs for Saturday Night Fever that prolonged the popularity of disco and led to one of the top-selling albums ever.
Paramount has purchased the life rights to the Gibb family estate on behalf of Gk’s King and will be able to use their classic songs in the movie. Sister — the venture just launched by Elisabeth Murdoch, Stacey Snider and Chernobyl producer Jane Featherstone — will come aboard as either a producing partner or a co-financier.

Tanya Tucker was like the Taylor Swift or LeAnn Rimes of her time.
A country superstar when she was just 13 years old, her career – and her love life -- suffered many ups and downs. After her first hit record "Delta Dawn" hit the airwaves in 1972, Tucker went on to record a streak of Top 10 hits, including "Love's the Answer," "What's Your Mama's Name," "Blood Red and Goin' Down" and "Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone)." But in the 1980s, her career was derailed by alcoholism.

Now, I don’t normally feel guilt over anything I genuinely enjoy — even if I should — but only on Valentine’s Day would I let myself string these hits together:

So You Think You Can Dance's ninth season crackled with enough raw talent and passion that we could forgive the presence (and long-windedness) of such uninformed guest judges as Zooey Deschanel and Christina Applegate. Truthtfully, we witnessed a staggering amount of fabulous dances this season, and it's hard to narrow down a top 25, let alone a top 10. Fortunately, I've tried. Here are my picks for the ten best routines of the season.
10. Eliana and Alex shoot each other down.
Did Eliana and Alex sell this? Absolutely. Was the piece unforgettable? Indeed. But while Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang" set the tone perfectly for this stark routine, I have to point out that the music and shock red lighting design were slightly more impressive than the actual choreography here. The images in this dance are burned into my brain, and for that reason it earns a spot on my list,...

Get this, I loved last night's spectacular, versatile episode of So You Think You Can Dance, even though I disagree with the judges about three key elements: I don't cry when Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" comes on, I hate hip-hop routines about babies, and I think bright red pantsuits should be worn only by the Kool-Aid Man's elder aunts. You'll see why these are important truths momentarily.
We dropped from 16 competitiors to 14 last night, and I'm pretty homicidal about the outcome. You too? Fine. Let's rank these performances and cartwheel back to sanity.
8. Tiffany and George
Consider it tragic foreshadowing that I wrote about Rugrats yesterday, because this hip-hop baby routine was pretty much a Tommy Pickles dirty diaper dance set to a radio beat. And man, the set's garish Crayola Washables color scheme was no help. This is the second week in a row where...

As my friend Pam Grossman put it, "Yes, universe, I know. I know too well that time passes and we are all going to die, sooner or hopefully later. I also know that cancer sucks. You do not need to drive these points home by killing off musicians I love every other day." This was prompted by the passing of Robin Gibb just after we lost Donna Summer and several other greats. Meanwhile, my friend Davie Kaufman, the biggest Flying Burrito Brothers fan I know, was disappointed that I hadn't yet marked the passing of Chris Ethridge, an original member of the Burritos, also taken from us by cancer.
Chris Ethridge was born in Mississippi in 1947 and moved to California when he was 17. In 1967 he joined Gram Parsons in the International Submarine Band in time to play bass on the group's only LP, Safe at Home. Though its release was delayed,...

I think we can all agree that the 1980 roller-disco romance Xanadu isn't exactly what most people would call the height of film making achievement. But as a 5-year-old girl (yeah, I watched movies at a really young age -- strange, I know), it was possibly the best thing I had ever seen. The story of a young artist named Sonny (played by Michael Beck) slaving away recreating album covers (is that even a job?) and the muse who inspires him to pack it in to start the roller disco of his dreams may have been a huge success on the Billboard charts, but the film barely broke even at the box-office -- my god, the spandex budget alone would have bankrupted the production. Of course, none of that mattered to me as I watched Olivia Newton-John glide across the floor to the tunes of E.L.O.

A sober, healthy and fit Nick Carter says his drug and alcohol addictions were once so severe that he almost died from heart disease. The Backstreet Boy was diagnosed last year with cardiomyopathy, a potentially fatal heart condition that killed Andy Gibb at age 30 and actor Chris Penn at 40.

When I was a tweenager -- and when I was a teenager, for that matter -- the entertainment targeted to my demographic was largely forbidden to me. Of course I became obsessed with it. Years of furtively devouring Tiger Beat at friends' houses and and pretending I'd seen The Empire Strikes Back took a heavy toll. Now that I have kids of my own and Radio Disney is blasting at every kid-oriented public venue they visit, I find myself unable to resist the glossy sheen of the marketing, the unthreatening poppiness of the music, the shaggy smolder of the designated idol du jour. All my unrequited yearning to hang Shaun Cassidy pictures on my wall and blast Andy Gibb from the stereo bubblest to the surface. I want to be 10 again and consume whatever the Disney corporation tells me to. So...

A shocking new biography claims Marie Osmond suffered mental illness as a child and attempted suicide.
Randy Jernigan's expose also alleges Osmond lied about being abused as a child; suffered an eating disorder as a teen; lost her virginity at the age of 17 to late singer Andy Gibb; and split from her basketball player ex-husband Stephen Craig when she caught him naked in a hot tub with her personal assistant.
Jernigan's Marie Osmond: An Unauthorised Biography - out this summer - alleges Osmond made up the child abuse claims after editors asked her to "juice up" her 2001 autobiography.
He tells America's Star magazine, "It wasn't true. She made it up, according to a lot of people I have spoken to. To this day, Marie has never explained what the actual abuse was."
Osmond's spokeswoman failed to respond to Wenn's enquiries.
