In 1925 he accidentally shot and wounded another actor during a performance of the play "Hells Bells". Neither Garvie nor the audience had realized the actor's screams were genuine and that the gun he had used was real, not a prop.
Survived by his widow, a brother and a sister.
Edward Garvie and Mollie Thompson appeared together in Vaudeville.
