MTV is firing back at a writer Christopher Gambale, who claims the network ripped off his idea for "Jersey Shore." MTV attorney Heather Windt calls Gambale's claim "without merit" in a letter to his attorney, according to a copy of the letter obtained by tmz.com. "Should your client opt to pursue this matter, please be advised that MTV will vigorously defend the action and when dismissed will pursue all available sanctions, including attorney fees," Windt wrote. MTV is not letting some guy claimed he created the original idea of "Jersey Shore". The network has responded to the claim that screenwriter Christopher Gambale came forward with "Guidos: The Reality Series" which is about "stereotypical guidos and guidettes" doing things like "Gtl before hitting the clubs."
Gambale said he pitched the idea in 2006 but never got a response from MTV until he issued a letter threatening to present them with a lawsuit. However, MTV insisted that they had been thinking about guidos reality show since 2004, taking example of "My Cousin Vinny," "Saturday Night Fever," and "Growing Up Gotti".
Plus, MTV also reminded Gambale that they ran "True Life: I'm A Jersey Girl" which featured "Tan young men with spiked hair and tight shirts" back in 2004.
MTV said in a letter obtained by TMZ that Gambale does not have a case against them. But, Gambale told the publication that he is not threatened.

MTV has responded to the allegations of a screenwriter who claims the network ripped off his idea for a reality TV show and called it "Jersey Shore." Christopher Gambale claims he first came up with the idea of guidos and guidettes in 2006, but MTV insists they've been in the business of guidos since 2004.
According to Gambale, he pitched the idea of a show called "Guidos: The Reality Series" to MTV in 2006. The show would focus on "stereotypical guidos and guidettes" that are obsessed with "Gtl before hitting the clubs."
He claims MTV never got him a response about his pitched show until he threatened to sue them in a letter.
But according to a letter MTV has recently fired, which TMZ obtained, the network says the portrayal of stereotypical Italian Americans is nothing new, citing "My Cousin Vinny," "Saturday Night Fever," and "Growing Up Gotti" as examples.

Bosses at MTV have vowed to fight a potential lawsuit from a writer who alleges he came up with the idea for hit reality show Jersey Shore, branding his claims "utterly without merit".
Christopher Gambale has threatened to sue officials at the network, accusing them of using his outline for a project entitled Guidos: A Reality Series as the basis for their popular programme, about a group of young people living in New Jersey.
But Heather Windt, Vice President of Intellectual Property & Litigation at MTV, insists the theme has been portrayed numerous times in popular culture.
In a letter to Gambale's lawyer, Windt states: "Jersey Shore was not the first work to focus on young Italian Americans. By way of example only, this theme has been explored in works such as Saturday Night Fever, My Cousin Vinny, Kiss Me, Guido, and Growing Up Gotti... The general idea of a show 'exploring the lifestyle of the Brooklyn/New Jersey Guido' is not copyrightable."
MTV executives also plan to take on Gambale in court if he proceeds with a lawsuit.
Windt adds: "MTV believes that your client's claim is utterly without merit. Should your client opt to pursue this matter, please be advised that MTV will vigorously defend the action and when dismissed will pursue all available sanctions, including attorney fees."...

Being from the Jersey Shore, I can tell you it doesn't take a genius to realize these people are quite amusing. I spent my entire youth mocking them.
Writer/producer guy Christopher Gambale claims that MTV stole his idea for Jersey Shore and is thinking about suing the network. He says he submitted the idea of Guido: A Reality Series, which he registered with the Writer's Guild of America in 2006.

Bosses at MTV are facing possible legal action from a writer who claims network executives copied his idea for hit reality show "Jersey Shore". Christopher Gambale wrote an outline for a show, entitled "Guidos: A Reality Series", in 2006 and registered the idea with the Writer's Guild of America.
Gambale's show, which he later allegedly pitched to MTV, focused on a "sad, pathetic excuse for a male... usually native to the New York/New Jersey tristate area" who enjoys "nightclubbing", according to the New York Daily News.
And he has now threatened to sue MTV bosses over the alleged similarities with Jersey Shore - Gambale's lawyers have given network bosses until December 10 to respond to their claims before filing suit.
